JACK: Is that all you've got to say?

STEVE: I never wanted anybody to get hurt. Neither did Kayla.

JACK: But somebody's got to bite the bullet, right? Better me than you!

STEVE: No, you're the last person I wanted to see this happen to....I hope you get over it real soon.

JACK: No, no, no, no. Don't go feeling sorry for me yet! I haven't conceded the race!

STEVE: Oh man, you're not going to try to get her back?

JACK: I don't give up that easily.

STEVE: It's over, you're fightin' a losin' battle.

JACK: No, no, no, no. I don't enter fights, I know I can't win. I'll win this one. You just wait and see.

KAYLA: Right I'm ready to go. Ready?

STEVE: Well that didn't take long.

KAYLA: Why would I care about that?

JACK: Maybe you've seen first hand my persuasive techniques!

ASSISTANT: I DON'T HAVE TO TAKE THIS! Go get yourself another whipping boy!
THE ASSISTANT LEAVES.
JO: Jack?

JACK: Mrs. Johnson. Hello.

JO: Is everything alright?

JACK: I just lost another assistant not to mention my wife but other than that things are just fine.

JO: I'm sorry to hear about Kayla.

JACK: Are you? She picked your son over me!

JO: I want you to be happy too.

JACK: Thanks!

JO: Jack, I care about you and I'm worried for you. Especially with everything that's happened. I don't want you to get too upset and make yourself sick again.

JACK: Well thank you for your concern but don't worry about me. I'll be just fine.

MELISSA: Hello Jack.

JACK: Melissa!

MELISSA: How are you doing? What brings you out here so early?

JACK: Nothing special.

MELISSA: Listen I know we're not supposed to talk to each other but you don't look so good. You're not getting sick again are you?

JACK: No, no I'm not.

MELISSA: Oh, that's good....Well I guess you don't want to talk to me. (She begins to walk away.)

JACK: Actually I'm surprised you want to talk to me after the way I've been treating you lately.

MELISSA: I care about you.

JACK: Still? After I practically accused you of trying to kill my wife?

MELISSA: Well I'd be lying if I didn't say the way you've acted lately didn't hurt but with your job well I understand. Besides no matter what you tell other people deep down inside I know you think I'm innocent.

MELISSA: Jack, what's wrong? I mean I know I can't help much but I can listen.

JACK: Kayla hasn't been exactly....loyal to me....but that's alright. She's going to come back to me. I know it.

MELISSA: Jack are you sure that's what you really want?

JACK: ABSOLUTELY what I really want.

MELISSA: Why do you keep going after someone who doesn't want to be with you? You have so much to give Jack. So much good you can do in the world. You should be with someone who loves you and wants to be with you, working by your side....

JACK: Mrs. Johnson, hello.

JO: I was hoping I'd run into you today. I was thinking about you.

JACK: Me? Why?

JO: Well I'm just a little worried about you. I mean with Kayla being away and all.

JACK: There's no reason to be concerned about me. Kayla won't be away for long.

JO: What do you mean?

JACK: Well just what I said. Nothing can separate me from Kayla. Not even your son.

JO: Jack you're not thinking of doing something foolish....

BARTENDER: Excuse me Jack. Phone for you.

JACK: Oh thanks!....Jack Deveraux.

PI: Mr. Deveraux, I got 'em.

JACK: Where are they?

PI: They're in this cabin in the woods. It's a little south of where 92 crosses the state line. I'm pretty certain. There's nobody around for miles. Johnson's a sitting duck.

JACK: Good. You know what to do.

PI: You got it.

JACK: Just remember that one thing that I told you. My wife doesn't get hurt. I'm on my way.
HE PUTS DOWN THE PHONE.
JO: Everything okay?

JACK: Oh yes. Couldn't be better. I've got to go.

JO: Everything's okay?

JACK: I don't understand this. Why are you so concerned about me? Kayla's off with your son.

KAYLA: How did you find us?

JACK: I told you I would. I told I could find you.

KAYLA: I didn't think you'd have the nerve.

JACK: I guess you underestimated me. I guess that's something you do a lot.

KAYLA: Just leave Jack.

JACK: No. I'm not going anywhere. Not without my wife.

KAYLA: I'm not your wife! You don't know how to treat a wife!

JACK: I'm learning....Get dressed!

KAYLA: I'm not going anywhere with you!

JACK: Yes you are! You're going home with me, Mrs. Deveraux. (He touches her chin.)

KAYLA: Don't you touch me. And you better get used to the fact that I'm not going to be Mrs. Deveraux for long. As soon as Steve and I get back to Salem, I'm filing for divorce. If you have anything to say about it well I'll....I'll....

JACK: You'll what?

KAYLA: I'll give the press a story that will knock their socks off not to mention what it will do to your career.

JACK: Kayla, Kayla, Kayla. I thought you were smarter than that. I thought or at least I was hoping you were paying more attention when I warned you.

KAYLA: Get out Jack!

JACK: Make me!

KAYLA: You know, Steve's not too crazy about you right now.

JACK: Ooh! Oh somebody's been doing some talking that they shouldn't have been doing.

KAYLA: I told you I'd tell him.

JACK: Yes. The two of you have a very sharing relationship. Me? I don't like sharing. Now you can either come with me on your own or come because I make you but either way you're going to come with me.

KAYLA: I'm not going anywhere with you.

JACK: I'll force you if I have to....I'd rather not.

KAYLA: You're not going to get away with this Jack.

JACK: Let me worry about that and you get dressed or I'll do it for you.

JACK: Home again, home again, jiggety jig! You've been a very good girl!

KAYLA: Don't talk to me that way Jack.

JACK: Okay, you've been a very smart girl. You were very quiet and didn't raise a fuss.

KAYLA: I'm not going to fight with you.

JACK: Good!

KAYLA: I'm going to let Steve do that.

JACK: Are you so sure that the one-eyed wonder is going to show up?

KAYLA: Oh he'll be here!
JACK STARES AT HER.
KAYLA: He will!

JACK: Hey I didn't say anything except if you're really concerned about lover boy's health then you're going to keep on be my loving wife and you'll do it with a big fat happy smile on your face.

KAYLA: What have you done to Steve? Where is he?

JACK: I don't see that smile....In half an hour a reporter's going to be here to interview us.

KAYLA: I don't do interviews Jack.

JACK: To interview Salem's charming new Assemblyman and his even more charming wife.

KAYLA: I'm not going to do it!

JACK: I can't control what you say but don't tell me I didn't warn you!

KAYLA: What have you done to Steve?

JACK SIMPLY RAISES HIS EYEBROWS AT HER.

KAYLA: Is he alright? Just tell me that he's alright.

JACK: If you say anything I don't like, don't blame me later if you hear news about you-know-who. Oh what a shame. He's so young to cut off in his prime. His whole life ahead of him....Think about it, please. Darling!
JACK GRABS HIS COAT AND LEAVES.
