JACK:
There's nobody in here but you. How did you know I was at that door? Can you hear? Does that mean you can hear now?

KAYLA NODS. JACK SMILES, AND APPEARS TRULY HAPPY FOR KAYLA.

JACK: Well that's wonderful! That's wonderful! I was worried about you. How are you doing? Now tell me, when did it happen?

KAYLA POINTS TO HER MOUTH.

JACK: You can't speak. Well at least you can hear now. (Beat) I wanted to tell you how sorry I am about what Harper did and how sorry I am about everything that happened. (Beat) Kayla....

KAYLA WALKS AWAY FROM HIM.

JACK: Kayla, please. Please just listen to me just for a moment. Please just hear me out. (Beat) You know the last time we were together like this, we were getting married and it was the happiest moment of my life. I thought you were happy too and I thought you loved me and that's why you wanted to be married to me. (Beat) God I know how much you hate me now. (Voice breaking) I know it. But I never meant to hurt you. I couldn't.... I just.... I wouldn't see that you didn't love me when I was so in love with you.

And I thought that if I (Beat) I've made enough excuses for what I did. I hurt you more than anybody and in doing so I hurt myself. For a few short moments I ruined a lifetime. (Beat) Kayla I want you to tell me, please tell me, please, are you going to marry him? Just tell me, are you going to marry.... my brother?

KAYLA NODS.
JACK: My worst enemy.

KAYLA WRITES JACK A NOTE.

JACK: What do I want? (Beat) Well nothing you can give me. (Beat) No. (He removes his wedding ring.) All I ever wanted was you and now I finally know that you're the one thing I can never have.

JACK LEAVES.

Jack runs off his dysfunctional history;
1:50 Min; 4 Meg

MELISSA: Jack?

JACK: What are you doing here? That's a very good question seeing as I'm the only one who doesn't have an invitation.

MELISSA: I thought it was over between you and Kayla. I thought it was finally over. I thought you were ready for something else. I guess I was wrong.

JACK: No, you're not wrong.

MELISSA: Well what are you doing here Jack?

JACK: I had to be here Melissa. I've been...I've been thinking about this for so long, I had to see how.... I had to see if it was going to end.You know it's kinda like one of those bad dreams that you hope is going to end. Well I know.... I know now that this one is never going to end.

MELISSA: Jack, if you feel that way, if you still care so much about Kayla marrying somebody else, you don't want me.

JACK: Yes I do!

MELISSA: You don't want a future with me.

JACK: Yes I do!

MELISSA: Not if you can't stand to lose her Jack.

JACK: That's not it Melissa!

MELISSA: Then what is it? Tell me Jack, what is it?

JACK: It's.... it's not Kayla. It's not just Kayla getting married. Don't you see that? It's everything!

MELISSA: Jack.

JACK: What's the matter? Can't I laugh about this? Do you know anybody who could have a life like mine and not laugh about it? One moment I'm Jack Deveraux, the Senator's son, married to the woman of my dreams. Next thing I know I'm not Jack Deveraux. I'm not the Senator's son. I'm the son of my ex-maid and the man who raped my sister. You know anybody who could tell a story like that?

MELISSA: Jack come on.

JACK: Oh I almost forgot. My father's not really my father. He's actually a serial killer who tried to kill the woman of my dreams who is at this moment getting married to the brother that I hate. You got that?

MELISSA: Jack.

JACK: You know it gets better. (Crying) Remember.... remember.... me. I'm the guy who got married to the woman of the brother that I hate. Of course at that time I didn't know that he was my brother. I....

MELISSA: Jack.

JACK: I.... I didn't....

MELISSA: Jack. (She hugs him) Sssshhhh.

JACK: (Crying) Melissa.... I....

MELISSA: It's okay, it's okay.

JACK: I still need you Melissa. I need you so much.

MELISSA: It's okay. Don't worry. I will never leave you. I won't leave you Jack.

SCENE FOUR: JACK AND MELISSA GO HOME. THEY ARE KISSING ON THE BED. HE HAS REMOVED HIS SHIRT WHILE SHE IS STILL DRESSED. JACK SMILES AND LOOKS AT HER, LOVINGLY.

MELISSA: Jack, are you sure this is what you want? That I'm what you want?

JACK: Yes. I want you. I'm sure.

MELISSA: I can make you happy Jack. I know I can.

JACK: I know you will.

THEY KISS AND THEN MAKE LOVE.

MELISSA IS ECSTATIC, BUT JACK'S LOOK, WHICH MELISSAY DOES NOT SEE, REVEALS THAT HE IS THINKING ABOUT KAYLA MARRYING STEVE, AND TAHT WISHES IT WERE KAYLA WITH HIM, NOT MELISSA.
