Jack Tries to Prove to Steve That
He and Isabella Are not Helping Victor.

SCENE ONE: ISABELLA RETURNS TO STEVE'S ATTIC AND SHE OVERHEARS A CONVERSATION BETWEEN ROMAN AND STEVE. THEY HAVE DISCOVERED A PICTURE THAT SHOWS MARINA AND ISABELLA STANDING WITH VICTOR. STEVE SAYS THAT HE HAD NO IDEA THAT THE TOSCANO SISTERS KNEW VICTOR. THE ONLY PERSON WHO KNOWS ISABELLA IS JACK. STEVE CALLS HIM TO FIND OUT WHY JACK KEPT THAT A SECRET.

 

STEVE: Yeah, I want to speak to Jack Deveraux. This is his brother. Tell him it's important.

JACK: Steve, is that you?

STEVE: Jack, you get your ugly butt out from behind that desk and get over here.

JACK: Not that I'm not flattered by your charming invitation but do you mind telling me why you want to see me?

STEVE: Yeah I mind. I want you to get over here.

JACK: Wait, is it Kayla? Did something happen?

STEVE: RIGHT NOW!

JACK: Alright. I'll be right there.

SCENE TWO: MINUTES LATER JACK ARRIVES.

 

STEVE: It's about time, come in

JACK: I literally got here as fast as I could.

STEVE: Well remember to thank the chauffeur for me.

JACK: Let's cut to the chase, shall we? Tell me what I did.

STEVE: Take a guess.

JACK: I can't. I didn't do anything.

STEVE: Now that's a category. Things you didn't do.

JACK: Wh...what are you talking about?

STEVE: I'm talking about Isabella Toscano.

JACK: You know everything I know.

STEVE: No I don't. You didn't tell me about her and Victor Kiriakis.

JACK: Er....Kiriakis. There's nothing really to tell. She's scared of him if that's what you mean.

STEVE: That's not what I mean.

JACK: Well....I....I saying, I don't know anything. She's....he's her enemy, just like he's your enemy, he's my enemy.

STEVE: I don't think so.

JACK: I'm telling you the truth.

STEVE: You're working for Kiriakis and so is she.

JACK: No, I don't know where you're getting your information but it is wrong. I don't work for work for Kiriakis, she doesn't work for Kiriakis. She's scared to death of the guy.

STEVE: Oh is she? She doesn't look scared to death of him.

 

STEVE PRODUCES THE PICTURE OF ISABELLA AND MARINA WITH VICTOR.

JACK: Wh....what is this?

STEVE: They don't look like enemies. They look like friends. Real close friends.

 

JACK IS STUNNED.

 

JACK: I....I don't believe it.

STEVE: You don't believe it.

JACK: No I don't.

STEVE: You're working for Victor Kiriakis along with Isabella Toscano. You're all in cahoots together.

JACK: No, I told you the truth

STEVE: This is your MO, dude. This is what you love. Making me look a fool no matter what the stake, even Kayla!

JACK: Okay just calm down.

STEVE: DON'T TELL ME TO CALM DOWN. I'M SICK OF YOUR LIES.

JACK: STEVE, I'M TELLING YOU THE TRUTH.

STEVE: WHY DO YOU WANT TO TELL ME THE TRUTH NOW?

JACK: BECAUSE I CARE....BECAUSE WE'RE FAMILY AND I CARE ABOUT YOU!

STEVE: Well now I know you're lying.

ISABELLA: He's not lying! Jack doesn't know anything about Victor and me.

 

JACK AND STEVE ARE COMPLETELY SURPRISED BY ISABELLA'S SUDDEN APPEARANCE.

 

ISABELLA: That picture was taken some time ago. I'm sure you must recognize me.

STEVE: I want to know what the hell's going on here. What's she doing here?

JACK: I brought her here.

STEVE: You what?

JACK: I brought her here. I was trying to protect her. I thought I COULD HIDE YOU FROM VICTOR HERE.

STEVE: You were hiding her?

JACK: No....Yes. Yes I was.

STEVE: Since when?

ISABELLA: I can explain,

JACK: Well I hope you can explain to me.

STEVE: Well you better explain. (To Jack) You tell me. Since when have you known where she was.

JACK: EVER SINCE I BROKE HER OUT OF BAYVIEW SANITARIUM.

STEVE: Since then and you're just now telling me. Just now?

ISABELLA: I made him promise not to tell you.

STEVE: (To Jack) I should break your neck right now, you know that.

ISABELLA: Listen to me. Jack doesn't know anything about my relationship with Victor.

JACK: But he'd like to.

ISABELLA: It's not something I can discuss right now.

STEVE: Why not?

ISABELLA: I just can't. But I want to help you find your wife.

STEVE: Then you get me that key.

ISABELLA: I don't have the key! Jack and I have been trying to find it for weeks. I have looked everywhere. You have to believe me.

STEVE: Look I don't have to believe either one of you. Now I'm going to lose it in about two seconds if somebody doesn't start telling me the truth.

ISABELLA: I am telling you the truth. (To Jack) You believe me don't you?

 

JACK IS SILENT.

 

ISABELLA: I know how you must feel about me right now but I want to help you. I want to help you both.

STEVE: Yeah right.

ISABELLA: I'm telling the truth. I can prove it.

STEVE: How?

ISABELLA: I'll go to Victor.

JACK: WHAT?

ISABELLA: Well he's the only one who knows where Kayla is.

JACK: You think he'll tell you?

ISABELLA: I hope so.

JACK: Why? What is your relationship with him? What is it? What is your relationship with Victor Kiriakis?

ISABELLA: Does it matter?

JACK: I think it does.

STEVE: I think it does too.

ISABELLA: Victor and I have known each other for a long time. If he knows where Kayla is, there's a chance that he'll tell me. I think that's all you should be concerned about.

 

JACK AND STEVE LOOK AT EACH OTHER, DECIDING WHETHER TO TRUST HER OR NOT.

 

ISABELLA: I don't want to waste anymore time. I think I should go to Victor now.

STEVE: That's a damn good idea. Let me show you the door.

JACK: I don't think you should go alone.

ISABELLA: I have to.

JACK: What's the point in keeping you here? Protecting you. I thought it was dangerous with him.

ISABELLA: It was. It is. But it's not physical danger.

JACK: What other kind of danger is there?

ISABELLA: Jack I can't tell you right now. You believe me don't you?

JACK: Excuse me but my wife's life is in danger. Can you help me out?

ISABELLA: Yes.

STEVE: Let's go.

JACK: Wait a minute. Ah....sound check. Show me your....

 

JACK AND ISABELLA CHECK THEIR TRANSMITTERS.

 

STEVE: What's that?

JACK: It's a transmitter.

STEVE: What for?

JACK: Okay I want you to put that back in. I want you to turn it on when you get to Victor Kiriakis.

STEVE: I'm talking to you Jack!

ISABELLA: You don't trust me Jack.

JACK: Listen, if you're being honest we'll know and if you're in trouble we'll know that too. (To Chauffeur) Herb, take her wherever she wants to go.

 

ISABELLA LEAVES AND STEVE WALKS UP FACE TO FACE WITH JACK AND LOOKS AT THE TRANSMITTER. JACK LOOKS DOWN AND THEN AT STEVE.

 

JACK: It's a long story.

 

STEVE TAKES THE TRANSMITTER.

 

STEVE: I got time.

SCENE THREE: JACK AND STEVE ARE WAITING TO HEAR ISABELLA ON THE TRANSMITTER.

 

STEVE: Where's that cat?

JACK: I saw him around here somewhere.

STEVE: She!

JACK: She?

STEVE: It's a she.

JACK: Well I'll help you look for her.

STEVE: Here, kitty, kitty, kitty. Never mind.

JACK: No, no. I can help you look for her. I don't have anything else to do.

STEVE: I said, never mind. Here kitty, kitty, kitty.

JACK: Hey! I'm here because I wanted to help you and Kayla. That's the reason that I'm here.

STEVE: There he is. Come here.

JACK: She.

STEVE: You know if you keep hidin' from me, you're going to starve to death.

JACK: Steve.

STEVE: What?

JACK: Steve! Look whether you believe it or not, whether you even want to hear it or not, the reason I'm doing all this is because I wanted to help you.

STEVE: Oh yeah, it's that brotherly love again, huh.

JACK: I'm telling you the truth.

STEVE: You're starting to sound like your friend, Isabella.

JACK: You don't believe her, do you?

STEVE: Do you?

JACK: I don't know. But if she is telling the truth, if she is involved with Victor, Kayla might be home tonight.

STEVE: Well you just better hope and pray that she's being straight with you.

JACK: You hope.

 

SUDDENLY THE TRANSMITTER BEEPS AND THEY KNOW THAT ISABELLA IS AT VICTOR'S.

SCENE FOUR: ISABELLA AND VICTOR TALK AS IF THEY ARE VERY OLD FRIENDS BUT HAVE NOT SEEN EACH OTHER FOR A LONG TIME. HE TELLS HER SHE WAS FOOL TO COME TO SEE HIM. JACK IS WORRIED FOR HER.

 

JACK: That son of....

STEVE: No, no, Jack.

JACK: Look, he's going to get Isabella!

STEVE: Kayla's in trouble too.

JACK: Look I'm not going to stand by and let him get her.

STEVE: You listen to me little brother. This is my one chance to get my wife back and you're not going to blow it.

JACK: Isabella shouldn't have gone to Kiriakis in the first place.

STEVE: Just give her a chance. Let's see what she can get out of him.

JACK: He's just going to grab her and take off!

STEVE: He's already got Kayla.

JACK: So what are you saying we should do?

STEVE: We wait.

JACK: Wait for what Steve?

STEVE: Wait, now. Just wait. If things heat up we'll go over there.

JACK: If things heat up we'll....okay, okay. If things heat up we'll....

 

ISABELLA TELLS VICTOR SHE IS NOT AFRAID OF HIM ANYMORE. ISABELLA ASKS VICTOR TO LET KAYLA GO. HE SAYS THAT HE WILL LET HER GO WHEN HE GETS THE KEY. HE SAYS THAT HE WILL NOT HURT ISABELLA BECAUSE SOMEBODY IS PROBABLY LISTENING TO EVERYTHING THEY ARE SAYING. SHE SAYS NO ONE CARES ABOUT HER. HE QUESTIONS JACK'S INTENTIONS. SHE SAYS JACK IS NOT INTERESTED IN HER AT ALL. HE SAYS KAYLA IS UNHARMED BUT HE WILL NOT SAY WHERE SHE IS. ISABELLA LEAVES

SCENE FIVE: AND RETURNS TO STEVE'S. JACK AND STEVE JUST STARE AT HER, FURIOUS THAT SHE KEPT HER OBVIOUS CLOSE RELATIONSHIP WITH VICTOR A SECRET.

 

ISABELLA: Isn't anybody going to say anything?

JACK: How are you doing?

ISABELLA: Fine.

STEVE: So what was with the friendly attitude with Kiriakis?

ISABELLA: I went there to get information.

STEVE: Oh! Is that what you were doing?

ISABELLA: I went there to do a job and I did it.

STEVE: You were supposed to find out where my wife is!

ISABELLA: What makes you think I didn't?

STEVE: I don't have time for your games.

ISABELLA: Listen, I did get a clue.

STEVE: Oh! Well it must have been something pretty deep. I didn't hear a clue. Did you Jack?

ISABELLA: Well do you want to hear it or not?

STEVE: Yeah, I want to hear it.

ISABELLA: The problem is, I don't understand why Victor gave it to me.

STEVE: I don't care about why. Tell me what it is.

ISABELLA: Victor and I had to hide out once. From my father. We hid out on a yacht. The yacht was disguised as a freighter.

STEVE: A freighter. That's it! That's where she is.

ISABELLA: Steve I think it's a trap. Victor gave in way too easily.

 

STEVE'S PAGER BEEPS AND HE REALIZES IT IS KAYLA TRYING TO CONTACT HIM ON THE PAGER HE GAVE HER AT THE LIGHTHOUSE.

 

STEVE: That's Kayla.

ISABELLA: Steve, I don't think you should get into this.

STEVE: I don't know what you're talking about. You gave me information about my wife, now I got to go.

ISABELLA: What if it's a trap?

STEVE: I'll deal with that. Jack you get Roman on the phone. The number's in the book there.

 

STEVE GOES UPSTAIRS AND JACK GLARES AT ISABELLA.

 

ISABELLA: I hope this works.

JACK: We have a lot riding on your little clue.

ISABELLA: Jack.

JACK: I don't like Steve going off on his own to get Kayla.

ISABELLA: Neither do I but you saw how he was.

JACK: You think it's a trap. So do I.

ISABELLA: Then why don't you tell him?

JACK: He doesn't trust me or my opinions.

ISABELLA: Just like you don't trust me?

JACK: I don't know. You could be part of the trap.

ISABELLA: I guess I deserve that.

JACK: Are you shocked?

ISABELLA: It still hurts.

JACK: I'm sorry if lying brings that out in me.

ISABELLA: Jack, I never lied to you.

JACK: NO?

ISABELLA: I swear it.

JACK: Hahahaha! Sorry if I don't pull out any bibles.

ISABELLA: I told you about my relationship with Victor.

JACK: Yeah. I think you left a couple of details out.

ISABELLA: Maybe that's because they're hard to talk about.

JACK: You could have at least told me that.

ISABELLA: I'm sorry.

JACK: Is this part of the act? Do I know?

ISABELLA: Because you know.

JACK: No, I don't know.

SCENE SIX: STEVE COMES BACK DOWNSTAIRS IN A WETSUIT AND CARRYING A SCUBA TANK AND REGULATOR.

 

STEVE: Did you get a hold of Roman?

JACK: Ah....called the house and nobody was there.

STEVE: DAMN! I was counting on him.

JACK: Ah....look, I can help you.

 

JACK GRABS THE TANK.

 

STEVE: No, no, no.

JACK: I'm volunteering right now.

STEVE: Give me that!

JACK: Steve, Steve. Steven, why don't you even think about it?

STEVE: Why should I?

JACK: Because blood is thicker than water.

STEVE: That never meant anything to you before. Give me that.

JACK: Steve, why do you call me little brother?

STEVE: To get your goat!

JACK: You got it! Let me help you. (Bet) You don't have Roman.

 

STEVE BEGINS TO WALK AWAY AND THEN WALKS OVER TO JACK AND GRABS HIS TIE.

JACK: Well?

 

AFTER A LONG PAUSE.

 

STEVE: Let's rock and roll Billy Jack.

 

STEVE PICKS UP HIS GEAR AND JACK GRINS.

 

JACK: Yeah.

ISABELLA: Jack I just want to say before you go that I'm not sorry that I went to Victor.

JACK: Well I'm not sorry either if we get Kayla back. I tell you one thing, Victor's seen you now. It's dangerous for you out there. You have to stay in the house and stay up in the attic. Promise me that.

ISABELLA: I will.

STEVE: LET'S GO!

JACK: I'm comin', I'm comin', I'm comin'. I'm right behind you. Wish us luck, okay.

ISABELLA: You know I do.
