BO HAS NO PLANS TO HELP HIM AND IS DETERMINED TO ESCAPE.

SCENE FOUR: JACK HAS FALLEN IN THE BATH WITH JENNIFER.

JENNIFER: GET OUT! GET OUT NOW! GET OUT NOW JACK!

JACK IS NOT AT ALL ANXIOUS TO GET OUT. HE SEEMS TO BE ENJOYING THEIR SITUATION.

JACK: I'm getting out. I'm trying.

JENNIFER: GET OUT, GET OUT, GET OUT NOW!

JACK DOES ALL HE CAN TO DELAY GETTING OUT OF THE TUB.

JACK: Wait a minute.

JENNIFER: GET OUT NOW JACK. GET OUT OF THIS TUB.

JACK: Wait a minute, let me get the soap first.

JENNIFER: The soap? GET OUT OF THIS TUB JACK!

JACK: Real rules here. Don't drop the soap. I can't tell you how many people die each year because they dropped the so....

JENNIFER: You're going to die if you don't get out of this tub right now Jack.

JACK: I'll just get the soap first.

JENNIFER: You're not going to get the soap.

JACK TRIES TO GRAB FOR THE SOAP, BUT KEEPS MISSING IT; ON PURPOSE.

JACK: WHOA! I think I got it. No.

JENNIFER: JACK!

JACK: It'll only take half an hour.

JENNIFER: JACK!

JACK: Alright, I'm going. You've got to stop screaming, alright.

JENNIFER: SHELDON! SHELDON!

JACK: He's going to call the police!

JENNIFER: CALL THE POLICE! SHELDON, CALL THE POLICE NOW!

JACK: I'm going, I'm going.

JACK TRIES TO STAND UP.

JENNIFER: Go, GO!

JACK TRIES TO STAND UP BUT SLIPS, THIS TIME FACE DOWN ON HER CHEST.

JENNIFER: AAAARRRGGGHHH!

JACK SLOWLY LIFTS HIS FACE OUT OF THE SUDS AND SHE GRABS A TOWEL TO COVER HER CHEST.

JACK: Aaah, it's getting warm in here.

JENNIFER: Actually I think the water's getting colder Jack.

JENNIFER SEEMS TO BE DOING SOMETHING TO HIM UNDER THE BUBBLES, BUT IT IS NOT CLEAR. SHE IS ALSO FLASHING HIM A LOOK.
oldEp147A
JACK: No.... well maybe you're right.

JENNIFER: It is. Actually I have you right where I want you Jack.

HE GIVES HER A GREAT BIG SMILE.

JACK: Really!

JENNIFER: Yeah, come here, I'll show you.

SHE PULLS HIM TOWARDS HER. HE MOVES IN AS IF FOR A KISS. SHE THEN PUSHES HIS HEAD UNDER THE WATER. HE GURGLES AND SHE GRINS WITH DELIGHT. SHE PULLS HIS HEAD OUT OF THE WATER AND HIS FACE IS COMPLETELY COVERED IN SUDS.

JENNIFER: What do you think about that Jack, huh? What do you think about that?

SHE PUSHES HIS HEAD UNDERWATER AGAIN THEN PULLS IT BACK UP.

JENNIFER: Maybe you'll think twice now about embarrassing me, huh!

SHE PUSHES IT UNDER AGAIN.

JENNIFER: Huh, huh. Take it Jack!

SHE PULLS HIS HEAD OUT AND IT FLOPS SIDEWAYS.

JENNIFER: Jack cut it out. Stop faking okay. You're so dramatic.

SHE PUSHES HIM UNDER AGAIN THEN PULLS HIM BACK UP.

JENNIFER: Jack, Jack.

SHE WIPES THE SUDS FROM HIS FACE.

JENNIFER: Jack....oh my god! Oh my god, Jack!

SHE LEAPS OUT OF THE BATH AND GRABS A ROBE.

JENNIFER: I'm going to save you okay. I'm going to save you.
oldEp147B
AS SHE IS TALKING JACK SLOWLY SLIPS SIDEWAYS UNTIL HIS HEAD GOES UNDER THE WATER AGAIN.

JENNIFER: Okay. Alright Jack, come on. OH NO, NO! I remember this thing I learned. Okay.

SCENE FIVE: JACK IS STILL UNCONSCIOUS. FRANTIC, BELIEVING HE IS DROWNING, JENNIFER PULLS HIM OUT OF THE WATER.
oldEp147C
JENNIFER: Okay, ready.

SHE IS ABOUT TO GIVE HIM MOUTH TO MOUTH RESUSCITATION WHEN HE STARTS TO LAUGH AND BLOWS SUDS ALL OVER HER FACE.

JENNIFER: You pretended to be drowning! You faked the whole thing!

JACK: (Laughing hysterically) And you bought it!

JENNIFER: (Upset) THAT'S THE WORST THING THAT YOU HAVE EVER DONE! EVER!

JACK: (Still laughing) Oh come on, that's not the only worst thing.

JENNIFER: (Angry) Come on, get out of here Jack. GET OUT OF HERE JACK, WITH YOUR STUPID GAMES AND YOUR SICK SENSE OF HUMOR.

JACK: Wait a minute, I'm all wet.

JENNIFER: GET OUT! GET OUT! GET OUT!

JACK: Wait a minute, Je.....

SHE PUSHES HIM OUT THE DOOR AND SLAMS IT SHUT. SHE IS ALMOST IN TEARS, BETWEEN HER FEAR AND ANGER. THEY TALK, BOTH ON OPPOSITE SIDES OF THE BATHROOM DOOR.

JACK: Come on. Open up. I was just kidding Jennifer.

JENNIFER: Kidding? That was kidding? You know what I thought Jack? I thought that I had killed you.

JACK: Come on, it's nothing to get hysterical about. It was a dumb joke!

JENNIFER: Yeah everything is a joke to you Jack. But you know what's not funny, is the way that you use people. It's mean and manipulative and it's rotten. And I'm sick of it.

JACK: Okay, okay I admit it. You got me. I'm guilty. What do you want me to say, I'm sorry?

JENNIFER: Yes!

JACK: Okay, I'm sorry. How about that?

JENNIFER: You're just saying that because you want me to shut up Jack.

JACK: As if that were a remote possibility.

JENNIFER: DON'T YOU DARE MAKE FUN OF ME, JACK!

SHE POUNDS ON THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR AND OUTSIDE HE MOVES BACK.

JACK: I'm not making fun of you, okay.

JENNIFER: (On verge of tears, which can be heard in her voice.) Yes you are, yes you are. You are not happy unless you make a complete fool out of me or unless you make me miserable. I tried so hard to get you to admit that you cared about me but you wouldn't. No matter how many times I threw myself at you, you just walked away Jack, just like I was nothing. How do you think that made me feel, huh? How would you like the idea of feeling so unwanted and worthless?

OUTSIDE THE DOOR JACK IS FEELING SORRY THAT HE HURT HER SO MUCH.

JENNIFER (CONT.): Then you fire me from the best job I ever had because you couldn't deal wit the fact that we had feelings for each other. Then you push me at Emilio like you have the right to decide what's right in my life. Then he proposes to me and you had to come running back and ruin it Jack. I hated you for breaking up my wedding and I hated you for all those tricks you played on me in the woods because I believed everyone single of them....including the kiss you gave me. Because when you did that I thought you were finally going to tell me that you cared about me. And you didn't Jack, you just pushed me away, like I was some idiot whose feelings don't matter. Is that what I am to you Jack? Just a fool that you can jerk around? Because I'm not you know. If you kick me, it hurts. And if you laugh at me and use me, it hurts, Jack. And you've hurt me so many times I can't even count them all. What do you have to say for you....

SHE HAS BEGUN TO CRY AND JACK CAN HEAR IT IN HER VOICE. HE FEELS SO SORRY FOR WHAT HE DID, BUT HE CANNOT EXPRESS THAT TO HER, SO HE LEAVES. THROUGHOUT IT ALL HE IS SOAKING WET AND IS DRIPPING ON THE CARPET. SHE OPENS THE DOOR AND FINDS HIM GONE, WHICH ONLY MAKES HER MORE HURT. JACK IS IN THE BEDROOM FEELING VERY SORRY BUT HE ONLY EXPRESSES IT TO HIMSELF.
oldEp147D
JACK: I'm sorry Jennifer.

SCENE SIX: JENNIFER HAS FINISHED HER BATH, AND IS DRESSED AND BACK IN THE BEDROOM. JACK KNOCKS ON THE DOOR. THE SITUATION BETWEEN THEM IS A LITTLE TENSE.

JENNIFER: Come in.

JACK: (Serious) We've got to talk.

JENNIFER: About what?

JACK: About this living arrangement. It doesn't seem to be the well-oiled machine we thought it was.

JENNIFER: Hardly.

JACK: Obviously, we're not exactly getting along.

JENNIFER: Obviously.

JACK: So we've got to do something.

JENNIFER: Like what?

JACK: I don't know what. I mean obviously you can't just leave. I mean it's not safe.

JENNIFER: Well I don't know what we can do. I mean unless you're willing to talk to Isabella. We could talk to her about the diary.

JACK: (Adamant) NO!....No.

JENNIFER: Maybe she's a lot stronger than you think. Maybe it'd be better if we told her the truth Jack.

JACK: No. I'm telling you, she is not strong enough.

JENNIFER: You don't know that. I mean, you know, give her a chance. Let's go talk to her. Let's just feel her out a little.

JACK: What do you mean, feel her out?

JENNIFER: I mean be subtle. You know, let's just talk to her and see how she would react if she found out that....

JACK: NO!

JACK PUTS HIS HAND OVER JENNIFER'S MOUTH.

JACK: Don't say it. I mean you never know, somebody might be....somebody might be listening. You're not going to say anything right?

JENNIFER SHAKES HER HEAD.

JACK: I mean don't even....don't even think about it....don't even think about it even to yourself. Don't even think about it to me.

JENNIFER BITES JACK'S HAND. JACK YELLS OUT IN PAIN. SHE IS STILL VERY ANGRY.

JENNIFER: Don't you dare do that to me again, Jack.

JACK: I won't have to do if you keep your mouth shut.

JENNIFER: I said, alright. But we have to do something and Isabella is all we've got.

JACK: Alright, we'll do something but you're not going to say a single word about the....

JENNIFER: (Interrupting him) How many times do I have to tell you Jack. Wild horses would not get that secret out of me.

JACK: They better not because....until we find out that Isabella can handle it, nobody is going to find out anything.

JENNIFER: Fine.

JACK: Good.

JENNIFER: How's your finger?

JACK: It's still there.

JENNIFER HAS A SLIGHT SMILE ON HER FACE; SHE CANNOT SEEM TO STAY ANGRY WITH HIM FOR LONG.

JENNIFER: I'm glad to hear that.

SCENE SEVEN: JACK AND JENNIFER GO TO THE LOFT TO SEE ISABELLA. WHEN THEY GET THERE, VICTOR IS ABOUT TO LEAVE BUT HE IS TELLING ISABELLA THAT THEY WILL ALWAYS BE CONNECTED BECAUSE OF HER MOTHER, WHO HE LOVED AND WHO LOVED HIM. ISABELLA WILL NOT HEAR THIS, AND DOES NOT BELIEVE VICTOR. HE LEAVES AND JACK AND JENNIFER GO INSIDE. HEARING THIS JACK AND JENNIFER REALIZE THEY CANNOT REVEAL THE SECRET OF THE DIARY TO HER.

JACK: Hi Isabella. Why did he just say that about your mother? What did he tell you? So what just happened between you and Victor?

ISABELLA: Oh, why do you even want to know?

JACK: Well I don't know, I think that we're friends and I can see that you're upset.

JENNIFER: I can see too Isabella. We would both like to help you.

ISABELLA: Well I asked Victor to come over here. I wanted to finish it with him for good. Have it finally over.

JACK: Ah....just one thought. I mean, I know that he upset you but you guys go back a long way. Isn't it going to be hard to just break things off?

ISABELLA: Things are always hard with Victor....and painful. I'm glad that its are finally over.

JENNIFER: Isabella is that what you really want, to end the relationship?

ISABELLA: I've never been more sure of anything. I mean something happened to me today Jennifer. It made me realize something. You know it made me realize my priorities.

JENNIFER: What happened today, does it have anything to do with Roman?

ISABELLA: Yeah. Roman and I want to be together and we couldn't do that as long as Victor was in the background. But now that Victor's gone we can finally be happy.

ISABELLA GIVES JENNIFER A BIG HUG AND JENNIFER LOOKS ACROSS AT JACK WHO IS VERY WARY.

JENNIFER: I'm so happy for you.

ISABELLA: You know I never thought that it would work for Roman and me because we had so many obstacles. But now I see when if you really really want something and somebody, there's nothing that can stop you.

JENNIFER: Right.

SHE LOOKS AT JACK WHO LOOKS AWAY. SHE IS THINKING ABOUT HER SITUATION AND FEELINGS FOR JACK. JACK KNOWS THIS.

ISABELLA: So are you staying at your grandmother's again?

JENNIFER: Yes I am. I just need to get a change of clothes.

ISABELLA: Oh do you want some help?

JENNIFER: No, no, I'm fine, thanks.

ISABELLA: Okay. Then I'm going to go catch up with Roman, okay.

JENNIFER: Okay, fine.

ISABELLA: So keep in touch.

JENNIFER: I will. Bye Isabella.

ISABELLA: Take care. Bye Jack.

JACK: Bye, bye.

ISABELLA LEAVES.

JACK: Well it looks like you better pack everything you've got. I think we're going to be together for a long time.

SCENE EIGHT: JACK AND JENNIFER ARE BACK IN HIS BEDROOM. HE COMES IN WITH A TRAY. HE STILL FEELINGS BAD ABOUT EARLIER IN THE TUB, AND IS TRYING TO MAKE IT UP TO HER.

JACK: I got a little something down in the kitchen.

JENNIFER: Oh, I'm not very hungry.

JACK: Come on, you've got to eat sometime.

JENNIFER: Oh I will, I will. Don't worry about it.

JACK: Okay look, we've got to talk about this. I know that you're still mad. Admit it, you're still mad about what happened in the tub, right. So we've got to come to some kind of understanding because like it or not, we're going to be together for some time.

JENNIFER: Well which is it?

JACK: (Thrown by this question.) Pardon.

JENNIFER: The idea of us spending time together, do you like it or not?

JACK: It's not a matter of liking or not. It's a matter of what's (He somewhat stutters, as he always does when he is nervous.) necessary. It's necessary for you to stay here to be safe and keep Isabella from finding out about you know what.

JENNIFER: You know you are right Jack. When I heard Isabella talk about Roman I could see how terrible it would be if she found out about that.

JACK: So she never can.

JENNIFER: She'll never hear it from me.

JACK: Nobody can hear it from you.

JENNIFER: Jack I just told you I wouldn't say a word. Under pain of torture, of death!

JACK: I mean not even to me, that's what I mean.

JENNIFER: Not even to myself Jack.

JACK: Look, I'm being serious here. I'm not kidding around, right.

JENNIFER: I know.

JACK: Oh....then we have a deal?

JENNIFER: Yes, we have a deal.

SHE PUTS HER HAND OUT AND JACK SHAKES IT BUT THEY HOLD ON FOR A FEW SECONDS AND LOOK IN EACH OTHER'S EYES.

SCENE NINE: LATER JENNIFER HAS CHANGED INTO HER PAJAMAS AND ROBE. JACK IS ARRANGING HIS CHAIR BED AND TURNS ROUND TO SEE HER READY FOR BED. THEY BOTH ARE SLIGHTLY UNCOMFORTABLE, BECAUSE OF EARLIER, AND BECAUSE OF THE OBVIOUS FEELINGS THEY HAVE FOR EACH OTHER.

JENNIFER: You ready?

JACK: Yeah, are you?

JENNIFER REMOVES HER ROBE AND SHE IS WEARING A SHORT BRIEF PAJAMA TOP AND MATCHING SHORTS IN SPOTTED SATIN. SHE CLIMBS INTO BED AND TURNS OUT THE LIGHT. JACK ARRANGES HIMSELF ON THE CHAIRS.

JENNIFER: Jack.

JACK: Huh, uh.

JENNIFER: Do you remember what Isabella said today? It was something about caring enough for someone to get past whatever's in the way.

JACK: Yeah, I think I remember that.

JENNIFER: Do you think that's possible?....Jack are you asleep?

JACK: I think, if Isabella thinks that love can conquer all and that dreams can come true, then that's great....for her.

JENNIFER: I think it's great too because I think dreams can come true.

JENNIFER ROLES OVER AWAY FROM JACK AND THINKS. JENNIFER IS REFERRING TO THEM. HE STAYS ON HIS CHAIR THINKING TOO. JACK WOULD LIKE TO BELIEVE THAT IT IS TRUE FOR THEM AS WELL, BUT HE IS JUST SO SCARED BECAUSE OF HIS PAST, AND BECAUSE HE IS AFRAID TO BE HAPPY, AND TO BE HURT.
