They Wash Ashore on a Deserted Island.
Jack is Worried Because Jennifer Has
Seriously Injured her Leg and Has not
Regained Consciousness; Jack Nurses Her.

SCENE ONE: SOME TIME LATER, EVERYBODY IS WASHED ASHORE ON AN ISLAND. THEY ARE ALL UNCONSCIOUS EXCEPT ROMAN WHO GOES OVER TO SEE HOW JENNIFER IS FIRST. THEN HE GOES OVER TO JACK.

ROMAN: Jack!

JACK: Aargh, eergh!

HEARING JACK MOAN IS ENOUGH FOR ROMAN AND HE MOVES ON TO SEE TO VICTOR, JULIE AND HOPE. JULIE SEEMS OKAY BUT VICTOR HELPS HER. THEN ROMAN HELPS HOPE TO SIT UP. THEY THEN REALIZE THAT BO IS MISSING. JACK STARTS TO COUGH UP SEA WATER AND SAND; HE THEN LOOKS FOR JENNIFER WHO IS LYING JUST NEAR HIM.

JACK: Roman! Wait a minute! Roman....oh....did you see Jennifer?

HE ROLLS OVER AND SEES HER LYING UNCONSCIOUS NEAR HIM.

JACK: Jennifer, Jennifer, come on, come on, tides coming in. Come on, we gotta get up. Tides coming in, come on, come on. This way, this way. Oh, what do you think you're doing?

JACK PICKS HER AND CRADLES HER IN HIS ARMS. SHE STARTS TO COUGH LOUDLY.

JACK: Come on, that's enough of that beauty slee.....

HE LOOKS DOWN AND SEES THAT HER LEFT LEG HAS A BAD GASH ALONG THE THIGH. IT IS OPEN AND BLEEDING. JACK IS VERY SCARED.

SCENE TWO: ROMAN DECIDES TO GO LOOKING FOR BO BUT BEFORE HE LEAVES HE CHECKS ON JENNIFER.

ROMAN: How's she doing?

JACK IS TERRIFIED AND LASHES OUT AT ROMAN.

JACK: What the hell's it look like? She's not waking up is she?

ROMAN: I guess she got hung up on that reef. It tore her leg up pretty bad didn't it?

JACK: So do you have any suggestions?

ROMAN: Well I'd keep some pressure on it. Since we can't find the medical kit there's only one other thing I can think of.

JACK LOOKS HOPEFULLY AT ROMAN.

ROMAN: Prayers always worked for me.

ROMAN PATS JACK ON THE BACK. VICTOR COMES OVER TO THEM.

VICTOR: We better get started.

ROMAN: Yeah.

JACK: Where, tell me, where are you going?

ROMAN: We're going to look for Bo. No one's seen him since the raft flipped.

JACK: (Feeling bad) I'm sorry.

ROMAN: Oh he's out there. We're going to find him. You know how Bo likes to swim in different directions. You stay here and keep an eye on Jennifer.

ROMAN AND VICTOR HEAD OFF. JACK IS LEFT NURSING JENNIFER. HE IS SCARED STIFF BECAUSE THERE SEEMS TO BE NOTHING HE CAN DO THIS TIME TO HELP HER. HE CARESSES HER CHEEK THEN LOOKS UP TO THE SKY.

JACK: I guess I really ought be standing in line up there but....well maybe you'll give me cuts. One little favor for me....

HE LOOKS DOWN AT JENNIFER AND PRAYS SILENTLY. JACK CONTINUES TO HOLD HER AND TALK TO HER.

JACK: You remember that dog that was on that fire engine. I could have sworn that that dog was deaf because it didn't flinch when it heard the sirens or the screaming. I don't know what was worse. I don't know if the screaming was worse or your yelling was worse. You made me deaf. Though I don't think I'd mind if you started yelling right now.

HE BRUSHES THE SAND OFF HER FACE.

JACK: Why don't you do it? But you'd have to be awake to do that, wouldn't you? Why don't you do that, for me?

HE LEANS DOWN AND PUTS HIS LIPS AGAINST HER CHEEK.

JACK: Just wake up and start yelling, okay. Do it for me....please!

SCENE THREE: ROMAN COMES BACK BUT HE HAS NOT FOUND BO. HE DECIDES THEY SHOULD SETTLE DOWN FOR THE NIGHT. HE GOES OVER TO HELP JACK MOVE JENNIFER CLOSE TO THE FIRE.

ROMAN: Look Jack, I'm going to give you a hand and we'll take Jennifer over by the fire, alright.

JENNIFER STILL IS UNCONSCIOUS AND HAS A HIGH FEVER. JACK IS BECOMING MORE AND MORE FRIGHTENED, BECAUSE OF THIS HE IS SHORT TEMPERED WITH ROMAN.

JACK: I don't think she's going to need a fire. She's burnin' up!

ROMAN: Sure.

ROMAN LEAVES JACK WITH JENNIFER.

JACK: Burnin' up.

HE CARESSES HER FACE AGAIN AND SHE STIRS BUT IS STILL DELIRIOUS.

JENNIFER: Jack where are you?

JACK: Right here, right here.

JACK HOLDS HER EVEN CLOSER AND MORE TIGHTLY.

JENNIFER: Jack, there's water everywhere. Jack!

JACK: No, no, no, no, no. There's no water. Look there's just a lot of sand. Don't worry about it. I got you. Everything's okay, I'm right here, okay.

JENNIFER: Okay. You're here with me. That's good.

JACK: That's good. Yeah.

JENNIFER: That's good.

JACK: That's good. Okay, okay.

HE RESTS HIS HEAD GENTLY AGAINST HERS AND HOLDS HER TIGHT.

JENNIFER: Promise me!

JACK: Sure, I'll promise you something. I promise you.

JENNIFER: Tell me you love me Jack.

JACK IS STARTLED BY THIS AND DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO RESPOND.

JACK: What?

JENNIFER: Don't leave me. Don't ever leave me Jack.

JACK: No, no, no, no. I promise you. But I think it has to go both ways. I think you've got to promise me that you're not going to leave me either.

JENNIFER DRIFTS BACK INTO UNCONSCIOUSNESS AND JACK IS LEFT STARING AT THE NIGHT WITH LOVE AND FEAR IN HIS EYES.

[Air date 6-27-90]

SCENE ONE: IT IS THE NEXT MORNING AND EVERYBODY IS JUST WAKING UP. JENNIFER IS LYING NEXT TO JACK ON THE SAND. AS SHE ROLLS OVER, SHE BEGINS TO COUGH AND JACK COMFORTS HER. SHE IS STILL UNCONSCIOUS.

JACK: Jennifer, come on. It's okay, it's okay.

HE SETTLES HER BACK DOWN ON THE SAND. ROMAN COMES OVER TO SEE HOW JENNIFER IS DOING WHILE VICTOR AND JULIE LOOK AROUND THE ISLAND.

ROMAN: How's she doing?

JACK: (Desperate) Her fever's high and it's not coming down. We gotta do something soon.

MEANWHILE HOPE HAS FOUND THE FIRST AID KIT AND SHE GIVES IT TO JACK.

HOPE: Maybe there's something here that can help Jennifer. Take a look.

JACK: Alright.

JACK IS LOOKING THROUGH THE BOX WHEN JULIE AND VICTOR COME BACK TO CAMP TO SAY THEY'VE FOUND A CLEARING WHERE THEY CAN SET UP A CAMP SITE.

JACK: Okay, we've found a clearing, we've got supplies and you got me carrying you around. What more could anybody ask for, huh. I won't charge you any tip, huh, how's that? It's going to be okay.

HE PICKS HER UP IN HIS ARMS READY TO CARRY HER TO THE CLEARING.

SCENE TWO: EVERYBODY IS NOW SETTLED IN THE CLEARING BUT JENNIFER IS STILL UNCONSCIOUS. HOPE IS TENDING TO HER.

ROMAN: So how's she doing Hope?

HOPE: No change.

THEY BOTH LOOK WORRIED. SUDDENLY OUT OF THE TREES COMES JACK IN BARE FEET HOBBLING OVER THE ROCKS.

JACK: He came, he saw and he conquered. OUCH, OUCH, OUCH! Over there by the fresh water I found a big....well I found a cave.

ROMAN: A cave!

JACK: Yeah, cooler in the day, warmer at night. No sand crabs.

ROMAN: Alright guys, load em up. We're changing our location again.

JACK: Whoa, whoa, whoa. There's one little problem with that.

ROMAN: Oh come on Jack, for you there's never a problem, is there?

JACK: Well it's the size of the cave, see. It'll sleep one person, maybe two, if they're real friendly.

VICTOR: And Jennifer needs all the shelter she can get!

JACK: (Jack smiles) Was my sentiments exactly. I....

ROMAN: Okay let's take care of Jennifer. The rest of us have got work to do.

JACK: Right! Alright, has she been behaving while I've been away?

HOPE: I like it better when she's talking.

JACK: Me too!

ROMAN: Come on Hope, I want to give Jack a hand with Jennifer.

JACK: Okay.

ROMAN: Easy does it. Let's support the legs.

JACK PUTS HIS HAND UNDER HER BACK AND WRAPS ONE OF HER ARMS AROUND HIS SHOULDER. ROMAN HELPS LIFT HER FROM THE OTHER SIDE UNTIL JACK HAS HER SAFELY IN HIS ARMS.

ROMAN: Think she's in good hands?

JACK IS SURPRISED BY THIS AND PLEASED THAT OTHERS TRUST HIM NOW.

JACK: Right!

JACK STAGGERS UP THE HILL TOWARDS THE CAVE CARRYING JENNIFER. ROMAN, VICTOR, JULIE AND HOPE GO LOOKING FOR BO AGAIN.

SCENE THREE: MEANWHILE JACK LIGHTS A SMALL FIRE IN THE CAVE AND IS TENDING IT. JENNIFER IS LYING NEARBY AND BEGINS TO STIR.

JACK: Tending a real nice fire here. Of course, you'd have to open your eyes to see it and appreciate it. Jennifer....Jennifer!

JENNIFER: What?

JACK REALIZES HE IS NOT HEARING THINGS, AND IS OVERJOYED.

JACK: Wait a minute! Hey, you there? Welcome back!

JENNIFER: Jack!

JACK: Yeah it's me. Jack in the flesh, right here.

JENNIFER: Where are we Jack?

JACK: No, no, stay right there, stay right there. Just relax....I'll do all the talking. No, no, don't look!

JENNIFER TRIES TO SIT UP AND SEES THE WOUND ON HER LEG.

JACK: Although now that you're back I'll probably have to fight for the privilege. Okay.

JENNIFER: Please tell me where we are.

JACK: We're in a cave. We're on an island. It's not Fantasy Island. There's no hotels here. Just us. You fell out of the raft and you didn't turn out to be the swimmer that you thought you were.

JENNIFER: What do you mean? I'm a great swimmer Jack.

JACK: You were a great swimmer until your leg caught in that great barrier reef out there. But don't worry, I mean, don't worry. I'm sure that some nice heavy support hose will make it look just fine.

JENNIFER: OH JACK!

JACK: Let me get this. Let me get this. There.

HE HELPS HER SIT UP AND PUTS A LIFE JACKET BEHIND HER BACK FOR SUPPORT.

JENNIFER: Jack there's something that I have to tell you.

JACK: Please, come on, just relax. We don't need anymore heavy discussions here.

JENNIFER: I'm sorry that I was so stubborn about going on this trip.

JACK: What do you mean? I like it when you're stubborn. I mean that's one of my favorite parts about all your faults. Of course that has to compete with you being so bossy and 'ornery. Two real admirable qualities in a woman.

JENNIFER: Yeah well there's alot of faults about you that I like too.

JACK: That's hard to believe because I don't have any faults.

JENNIFER: (Smiling) Jack you are devious and manipulative.

JACK: But you like that!

JENNIFER: If you like me for being bossy and 'ornery.

JACK: Oh I was just saying that because I didn't want to hurt your feelings. I know you're sick.

JENNIFER: You also lie a lot!

JACK: Ooooooh! Sick and nasty!

JACK STANDS UP TO LEAVE. JENNIFER LOOKS WORRIED.

JENNIFER: Wait Jack. Don't go away mad.

JACK: Oh no, no, no. I'm not mad. I'm just hungry.

JENNIFER: Is there anything to eat?

JACK: Well I....I didn't see any grocery stores on the way in. But I'll check, I will.

JENNIFER: Jack don't leave me by myself.

JACK: I'm not leaving you.

JENNIFER: (Concerned) You're not going to push me away again, are you?

JACK: Who said anything about pushing you away. I'm here as long as you put up with me, or can put up with me or want to put up with me.

JENNIFER: I....I'll be here when you get back.

JACK: Don't wait up, you need a rest.

JENNIFER: Okay. I would like some pancakes and toast.

JACK: Hmmm.

JENNIFER: Juice, eggs.

JACK: Sure. I'll just....I'll see what we can find out there. Just ah....just rest okay.

JENNIFER: Okay.

JACK BENDS DOWN AND GENTLY BRUSHES AWAY SOME SAND FROM HER FOREHEAD AND KISSES IT. SHE LOOKS UP AT HIM WITH TRUST AND LOVE.

JENNIFER: I trust you completely Jack.

JACK: Yeah.

JACK LOOKS A BIT WORRIED ABOUT WHETHER HE CAN LIVE UP TO HER TRUST.

SCENE FOUR: A SHORT TIME LATER JACK COMES BACK INTO THE CAVE CARRYING A HANDFUL OF BERRIES.

JACK: Hi! I come bearing fruits of the vine.

SHE IS LYING DOWN AND LOOKING VERY SICK. HE PLACES THEM ON HER FRONT. JACK IS CONCERNED BUT DOES NOT LET HER KNOW.

JENNIFER: Berries?

JENNIFER IS RATHER RELUCTANT ABOUT THE BERRIES.

JACK: Yeah. Well something of the vine. I don't know, I think it will make....make some kind of nice wine or something.

JENNIFER: Jack what if they're poisonous? Maybe....

JACK: Wait a minute, a good Cub Scout knows his berries.

THIS CAUSE HER TO LAUGH FROM DISBELIEF.

JENNIFER: Oh Jack, please! I could never picture you as a Cub Scout.

SHE TRIES TO SIT UP BUT HER LEG HURTS TOO MUCH.

JENNIFER: OUCH!

JACK: Wha...just take it easy. Take it easy alright. Take it easy.

JENNIFER: It's just my leg.

JACK: Well that's what you get for making fun of a boy in uniform.

JENNIFER: I'm sorry, I just can't imagine you walking little old ladies across the street.

JACK: (Motioning) Pushing! Pushing little old ladies across the street. No, actually I gave good camp fire.

THEY SMILE AT EACH OTHER WITH LOVE.

JACK: Now why don't you put some of these berries in your mouth so you can keep it shut.

HE HANDS HER A BERRY.

JACK: Okay.

JENNIFER: Thank you for doing all this for me.

JACK: Just get better.

JENNIFER: I'm going to.

JACK: That's a promise.

JENNIFER: I'd do anything for you Jack.

JACK: One thing I want you to do is eat up.

JENNIFER: Here you eat too.

JACK: Okay.

SHE PUTS A BERRY IN HER MOUTH AND INSTANTLY BEGINS TO MAKES A FACE. JACK PUTS ONE IN AND STARTS TO LAUGH.
oldEp161C
JENNIFER SPITS HER OUT INTO HER HAND AND JACK SPITS OUT HIS INTO HIS HAND WHILE HE IS LAUGHING. JENNIFER THROWS A BERRY AT HIM.

JENNIFER: Some Boy Scout you are Jack!

JACK: I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I should stick to pushing the ladies across the street.

JENNIFER THROWS ANOTHER BERRY AT HIM. HE IS WEARING A DIRTY TANK TOP UNDERNEATH HIS TORN DARK BLUE-PURPLE SHIRT AND TORN TROUSERS.

JACK: Don't! Don't do that please. You'll mess my outfit.

JENNIFER SMILES GENTLY AT HIM.
