SCENE ONE: THEY ARE STILL KISSING MINUTES LATER, WHEN JACK SUDDENLY STOPS.

 

JENNIFER: What? What's the matter?

JACK: Nothing.

JENNIFER: Don't tell me you've changed your mind, not now.

 

JENNIFER IS CONCERNED THAT JACK HAS CHANGED HIS MIND, AND THAT HE WILL PUSH HER AWAY AGAIN.

 

JACK: No, no, it's just....um....

JENNIFER: It's just what?

JACK: I don't know. It's hard to explain that's all.

JENNIFER: You're just nervous, that's all.

JACK: No, no, I may be somewhat tense but there is a difference.

JENNIFER: Well what are you tense about?

JACK: Ah.... (With a slight smile) I just keep waiting for the phone to ring, or for Vern to come barging in or maybe even the bed to break down.

JENNIFER: Well Jack, Vern doesn't know where so that rules out the possibilities of him walking in. And the phone's not going to ring because there is no phone and there's no bed either.

 

AFTER THE PAST JACK CANNOT SEEM TO BELIEVE THAT THINGS ARE GOING WELL FOR HIM, AND ESPECIALLY THAT HE HAS FOUND LOVE, IS LOVED, AND IS SO CLOSE TO FINALLY ACTING OUT ON THIS GREAT LOVE.

 

JACK: Well something bad is bound to happen.

 

JENNIFER IS BEING TENDER, AND SUPPORTIVE OF JACK, REALIZING HIS FEARS.

 

JENNIFER: Jack, no. We're all alone. Everybody else is building the raft. They're not going to bother us. It's just me and you.

 

THEY KISS AGAIN, SOMETHING SEEMS TO COME TO JACK'S MIND, SO HE PULLS AWAY QUICKLY. JENNIFER IS CONCERNED.

 

JENNIFER: What?

JACK: Jennifer, you....you don't have the diaphragm.

JENNIFER: Yeah, I do. I just put it in.

 

JACK IS SURPRISED, AND IMPRESSED WITH HER BECAUSE OF THIS.

 

JACK: You just....from....from....the boat, the explosion and the island, you.....

 

JENNIFER NODS.

 

JACK: Jennifer!

 

THEY KISS AGAIN AND THEN SHE STOPS.

 

JENNIFER: Jack, make love to me. It's time.

 

JACK CAN NO LONGER DENY HIS FEELINGS, HE HAS LET GO OF HIS FEARS AND IS READY TO FINALLY MAKE LOVE TO JENNIFER.

 

JACK: Yeah I guess it is.

 

JACK LEANS BACK AND REMOVES HIS SHIRT AND TANK TOP. HE THEN TRIES TO UNDO HIS ZIPPER BUT IT IS STUCK. JACK IS FRUSTRATED.

 

JACK: Um, you know what we said before about something happening?

 

JENNIFER NODS.

 

JACK: So much for the perfect....damn Saxtons, I'm going to get you.

JENNIFER: Saxtons?

JACK: Saxtons, Saxtons, the name of my tailor. The one who's been pawning off defective zippers on me for years.

JENNIFER: Well Jack don't you think you would have noticed it by now?

JACK: No, he's....he's got these special time release mechanisms that make it just go apart when he wants it to. I'm going to sue the guy for every needle and thread he's got.

 

JENNIFER CANNOT HELP BUT LAUGH, BUT NOT AT JACK, AT HIS JOKE. JACK GETS THE WRONG IDEA, AND FEELS BAD THAT HE IS NOT BEING ROMANTIC ENOUGH FOR HER.

 

JACK (CONT.): Don't laugh!

JENNIFER: I'm not.

JACK: You're laughing. Don't laugh at me. This is not funny. I may be ridiculous but I'm not stupid.

JENNIFER: Jack you're not ridiculous. I just....when you started talking about the time release mechanism I just thought it was funny, that's all. I'm sorry.

JACK: No, you're not sorry. I'm the one who's sorry.

JENNIFER: For what?

JACK: Because....because girls want to spend the night with....ah.....Rhett Butler or Robert Redford not Jerry Lewis.

 

JENNIFER CARESSES JACK'S FACE AND NECK, TRYING TO REASSURE JACK.

 

JENNIFER: Jack, Jack. This has nothing to do with them or anybody else. You're not like anybody else. You're unique and so are we. We don't do things like other people do and I'm glad. So don't talk about how it's supposed to be because this is how it's supposed to be....for us. And I love it.

 

JACK IS SURPRISED AND MOVED.

 

JACK: Seriously?

JENNIFER: Seriously.

JACK: Well....well I don't want to blow my horn or anything but things would be looking up if I could get this zipper down.

JENNIFER: Well....well why don't you....why don't you just try and lean back. Try it there.

JACK: Oh okay, I'll just.....

 

JACK LEANS BACK, TWISTS, AND TRIES DIFFERENT THINGS TO UNZIP HIS ZIPPER, BUT IT IS REALLY STUCK, AND HE CANNOT.

 

JACK: I'm just going to have to cut it off. I'm going to cut if off, that's all I'll do. I'll just

JENNIFER: No, Jack, what if you turn and you kind of....

JACK: Just....

 

JACK PULLS AT IT AGAIN AND THIS TIME IT SLIDES EASILY. HE LOOKS UP TO THE SKY.

JACK: Thank you!

 

JENNIFER LOOKS A LITTLE EMBARRASSED AS THE ZIPPER UNDOES. SHE GLANCES AWAY FOR A SECOND. JACK LEANS FORWARD TOWARDS HER, AND FINALLY REVEALS HOW DEEPLY HE CARES FOR AND LOVES HER.

 

JACK: I am thankful you know....to your fairy godmother or college professor or whoever it is that sent you to work for me.

JENNIFER: Jack.

JACK: You know I don't....I don't express my feelings very well. I don't put into words.

JENNIFER: It's okay. It's alright because you already said it.

JACK: No I didn't. You said it. I just agreed with what you said. (Very emotionally) I just....love you....Jennifer. I love you.

JENNIFER SMILES AND JACK TAKES HER IN HIS ARMS AND BEGINS TO KISS HER PASSIONATELY. HE LIES HER DOWN IN FRONT OF THE FIRE. A SHOT OF THEM IS SUPERIMPOSED WITH THE BLAZING FIRE, AS THEY BEGIN TO MAKE LOVE FOR THE FIRST TIME.

SCENE TWO: LATER, IMMEDIATELY AFTER MAKING LOVE, THEY ARE LYING TOGETHER WITH HER HEAD RESTING ON HIS CHEST. JACK LEANS UP AND KISSES THE TOP OF HER HEAD. JENNIFER LOOKS ECSTATICALLY HAPPY, JACK IS CALM AND RELAXED, HE ALMOST LOOKS AS IF HE CANNOT BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED BETWEEN THEM HAS, AFTER HIS PAST HE FINALLY HAS FOUND TRUE LOVE. THERE IS A SPECIAL BOND AND CLOSENESS BETWEEN THEM, THEY ARE SO HAPPY AND COMFORTABLE IN EACH BEING SO CLOSE TO EACH OTHER.

 

JENNIFER: Hi.

JACK: Howdy.

 

JACK CARESSES HER HAIR WITH HIS FINGERS AS THEY SPEAK.

 

JENNIFER: I've waited so long for this. I've even dreamed about this. But the reality is so different.

 

JACK LOOKS WORRIED.

 

JACK: Different? Sometimes that term is reserved for disappointment.

JENNIFER: No, no Jack, that's the last thing it was. I just meant....I meant....I meant because it was my first time. I mean it was even more wonderful that I ever imagined.

JACK: (Relieved and pleased) It was. Good.

JENNIFER: I never felt this way about anybody before. I knew I loved you and that's what kept me going. And I had to believe that you loved me and that you were just waiting for the right time to show me and tell me. I mean behind all those stupid fights and that smart talk and those bad jokes, this was here all along.

JACK: (A slight chuckle) You think my jokes are bad.

JENNIFER: You were there all along. The real you. So gentle and so sweet.

JACK: Yeah, right!

JENNIFER: You are Jack. I felt it everytime you touched me. There's no denying it. This is right. This is perfect.

 

SHE LEANS DOWN AND KISSES HIM.

 

JACK: Perfect.

 

SHE RESTS HER HEAD BACK ON HIS CHEST AND THEY SLEEP.

SCENE THREE: SOME TIME LATER JACK STARTS TO OPEN UP TO JENNIFER. HE CARESSES HER HAIR AS HE TALKS.

JACK: I'm a coward. I say I want to live alone. It's a lie. It's the act of a coward. I'm just afraid to....to let anybody near me.

JENNIFER: (Teasing Jack) No, come on, not you.

JACK: (He does not catch on at first) I could tell (realizing she is teasing him)....yes me. When I got to know you I choked, I think I knew deep down that you were the one that was going to get in. So I thought maybe you'd get tired and you'd go away.

JENNIFER: Jack.

JACK: But you didn't go away though, you just kept....you just kept plugging in there.

JENNIFER: (Smiling) I'm stubborn remember. You said so yourself.

JACK: You just never gave up. I didn't think there could ever be someone with so much love inside them.

JENNIFER: I do.

JACK: I put you through a lot. I wasted a lot of time. I don't want to waste anymore.

 

JACK LEANS UP AND KISSES HER. THEY BEGIN TO MAKE LOVE AGAIN.

SCENE FOUR: IT IS SOME TIME LATER AND JACK HAS TAKEN JENNIFER TO THE POND. THEY ARE BOTH NAKED AND SHE IS STANDING IN THE WATER, FACING AWAY FROM JACK. HE IS STANDING BEHIND HER, RUNNING HIS FINGER SLOWLY AND SENSUALLY UP HER BARE ARM. SHE SIGHS. THEY BOTH ARE LOST IN THE OTHER AND THEIR LOVE, AND WHAT JUST HAPPENED BETWEEN THEMSELVES.

JACK: You like that?

JENNIFER: It's amazing.

 

HE CONTINUES TO CARESS HER SKIN, LOVINGLY ADMIRING HER BODY.

 

JACK: Yep.

JENNIFER: It's amazing that we're actually at ease with each other.

 

SHE TURNS TO FACE HIM.

 

JENNIFER: I mean Jack, I feel like everything's changed but it really hasn't. I'm just happy.

JACK: Happy.

JENNIFER: Blissfully happy.

 

JACK TAKES JENNIFER'S CHIN IN HIS HANDS AND LEANS IN TO KISS HER. JUST AS THEIR LIPS TOUCH THEY HEAR A VOICE.

 

BO: JENNIFER!

HOPE: JEN!

BO: Jen are you here?

 

THEY BOTH ARE BOTHERED THAT THEIR SPECIAL WORLD HAS BEEN ENTERED.

 

JENNIFER: Here.

 

BO AND HOPE SMILE AND LOOK A LITTLE EMBARRASSED AT CATCHING JACK AND JENNIFER IN THE POND TOGETHER.

JACK: I suppose you wonder what we're doing here?

HOPE: No, no, not really. No.

BO: No that's your business. Listen everybody's meeting back at the campsite and we'd like you to be there.

JENNIFER: Oh what's going on? Is there any trouble?

HOPE: I tell you what, we'll tell you all about it later. Um....

BO: We'll wait for you back here.

HOPE: Get dressed okay.

 

BO AND HOPE DISAPPEAR INTO THE BUSHES TO WAIT FOR JACK AND JENNIFER.

 

JACK: Well that's the sound of paradise lost.

JENNIFER: Temporarily. We can get it back anytime we want it.

JACK: Anytime.

 

JACK LEANS OVER TO KISS JENNIFER AGAIN.

 

JENNIFER: Jack, Jack.

JACK: Huh.

JENNIFER: They're waiting for us.

JACK: So?

JENNIFER: So we really should get dressed.

JACK: Alright, you first.

JENNIFER: Okay.

 

SHE MOVES OVER TO THE EDGE OF THE POND AND CLIMBS OUT. JACK WATCHES EVERY MOVE SHE MAKES, WITH GREAT LOVE, AND SHE TURNS BACK TOWARDS HIM, SLIGHTLY EMBARRASSED.

 

JENNIFER: Jack what are you doing?

JACK: Looking!

JENNIFER: Well I can see that. Why?

JACK: Because you're beautiful.

 

JENNIFER SMILES. ALL SHE EVER WANTED HAS FINALLY COME TRUE.

SCENE FIVE: VICTOR, ROMAN AND JULIE ARE AT THE CAMPSITE WHEN BO AND HOPE COME OVER THE HILL WITH JACK AND JENNIFER, THEY ARE ARM AND ARM.

 

BO: We found them.

ROMAN: Alright, finally.

JACK: Alright, alright, alright. Sorry we kept you all waiting.

 

JACK HELPS JENNIFER DOWN THE PATH.

 

JULIE: Jennifer, are you alright darling?

JACK: Yes, she's....

JENNIFER: Oh yeah, I'm fine. I'm terrific as a matter of fact.

 

SHE GLANCES ACROSS TO JACK. MEANWHILE HOPE IS SMILING IN THE BACKGROUND. ROMAN TELLS EVERYBODY THAT THEY MUST STICK TOGETHER IN PAIRS FROM NOW ON. HE GOES ON TO EXPLAIN THAT BECAUSE THEY KNOW THAT ERNESTO IS ALIVE AND HAS ISABELLA ON THE ISLAND, HE HAS DECIDED THAT HE IS GOING TO RESCUE HER. BO SAYS THAT HE SHOULD NOT GO ALONE AND JACK OFFERS TO GO AS WELL.

 

JACK: Roman, maybe I can keep you company?

ROMAN: No Jack, just stay here and help Bo please.

JACK: Alright, I will.

 

BO OBJECTS BUT VICTOR SAYS THAT HE MUST BE THE ONE TO GO WITH ROMAN BECAUSE HE KNOWS ERNESTO BETTER THAN ANYBODY. ROMAN AND VICTOR SET OFF AND THE OTHERS WORK ON BUILDING THE RAFT.

 

JACK: Isn't it going to have to be bigger?

BO: Yeah it's going to need to be if we're going to have an extra passenger.

JACK: What do you mean, if? We're going....we're going to get Isabella back.

BO: Then it's going to need to be bigger.

JACK: Then we're going to need more wood.

JULIE: I know where there are a couple of fallen trees. I can lead you right to them.

BO: Alright, lead the way. Let's go.

JACK: Okay. (To Jennifer) We'll be right back.

 

JACK AND JENNIFER ARE GRINNING BACK AND FORTH AT EACH OTHER, STILL EUPHORIC AFTER MAKING LOVE.

 

JENNIFER: Okay.

JACK: Don't go way. We'll be right back.

JENNIFER: Alright.

JACK: (Grinning) Sure.

 

THEY DO NOT SEEM TO LIKE THE IDEA OF LEAVING EACH OTHER, BUT JACK FOLLOWS JULIE AND BO, AND JENNIFER STAYS BEHIND WITH HOPE.

 

HOPE: I'm glad you're better Jen.

JENNIFER: Thanks Hope.

HOPE: You know we were all so worried about you, especially Jack. He wouldn't leave your side for a moment. Jen look I don't mean to pry into your personal business but about before, at the pond. Is everything alright? Are you alright?

 

JENNIFER'S MIND IS STILL ON JACK AND WHAT HAPPENED BETWEEN THEM.

 

JENNIFER: I've never been better in my life.

 

IT SEEMS AS IF HOPE IS CONCERNED FOR JENNIFER, KNOWING WHAT HAPPENED BETWEEN HER AND JACK, AND JACK'S PAST.

 

HOPE: Are you sure?

JENNIFER: Hope, I know Jack and I know that I'm in love with him.

HOPE: Does he feel the same way about you?

JENNIFER: Yes he does.

HOPE: Well then that's all that matters.

JENNIFER: You don't know how many times I almost gave up on him. I mean he was always putting up this wall and trying to push me away. But I couldn't leave. I mean how can you do that? How can you turn your back on love?

HOPE: You can't.

JENNIFER: And I know we're in a lot of danger right now and I should be scared but I'm not. All I can think about is what happened between Jack and me and what's going to happen. I just know we're going to get through this and we're going to be together for a long long time.

 

BECAUSE OF DREAMS SHE HAS BEEN HAVING, HOPE IS WORRIED THAT SOMETHING IS GOING TO HAPPEN TO BO.

 

HOPE: Yes I do hope we get through this safely, all of us.

 

BO COMES BACK AND JACK ARE HELPING JULIE.

 

BO: Can you see what you can do for Julie. She cut her hand.

JACK: Yeah.

 

JULIE REFUSES HELP BUT HOPE INSISTS.

 

JENNIFER: You know what the First Aid Kit is back at the cave. I can go and get it.

BO: Uh, uh! Not alone.

JACK: Ah....I'll go and you go with me! How about that? Come on.

 

JACK AND JENNIFER ARE GLAD TO HAVE A REASON TO GO OFF TO BE ALONE, AND TO RETURN TO THEIR SPECIAL PLACE.

SCENE SIX: JACK AND JENNIFER ARE BACK IN THEIR CAVE AND ARE GATHERING UP ALL THE STUFF THAT JACK TIPPED OUT TO GET JENNIFER'S BATH WATER.

 

JACK: Yeah well that's it.

JENNIFER: Good.

JACK: I guess we better get going.

JENNIFER: Yeah. Well I guess we'll never see this place again.

JACK: That's true.

JENNIFER: You know I don't know what Ernesto Toscano has planned. I'm sure it's not good. But I can't be sorry. If he didn't blow up that ship we would never be here.

JACK: That's also true. Somehow.

JENNIFER: Yeah, it's the most beautiful place in the world.

JACK: Kind of gives you a healthy respect for bats, doesn't it?

JENNIFER: I'm serious Jack. There's no bats here anyway. At least I don't think so.

THE BOTH ARE SQUATTING, JACK IS IN BACK OF HER, LEANING NEXT TO HER, LOVINGLY.

 

JACK: Well bats or no bats, I'm sure you'll find another place that has no heat, no running water, no electricity, cold hard floor....

JENNIFER: Sounds like heaven.

JACK: You're easy to please. You know that don't you.

JENNIFER: Only if you know how.

JACK: Okay, how does this sound? Wall to wall carpeting, running....hot running water, electric lights, big bed. How about that?

JENNIFER: It doesn't matter where we are.

JACK: (Smiling) It doesn't matter.

JENNIFER: No, we can be at your place, my place, Salem Inn, even Wings.

 

JACK IS AMUSED AT THE THOUGHT OF THEM MAKING LOVE IN WINGS.

 

JACK: Wings? Don't you think Dave would mind?

JENNIFER: Jack you know what I mean. As long as you were there with me.

 

THEY KISS.
