SCENE ONE: JENNIFER IS AT THE POND FILLING EMPTY COCONUT SHELLS WITH WATER. JACK IS WATCHING HER. THEY ARE NOW LOOKING VERY WEATHER BEATEN. JACK'S HAIR IS ALL OVER THE PLACE AND HE HAS A FIVE DAY BEARD. HIS CLOTHES ARE TORN AND DIRTY. JENNIFER IS GRUBBY WITH UNTIDY HAIR.

JENNIFER: Fetch and carry, fetch and carry. I'm getting used to these simple pleasures.

JACK: Huh, huh!

JENNIFER IS OBVIOUSLY SCARED AND IS BABBLINGLY. JACK NOTICES THIS.
oldEp166A

JENNIFER:
I mean I don't really mind hauling water from the pond to the others. I mean it's so basic. I mean not that I want to spend the rest of my life at a pond or anything but I'm doing a lot better than I thought I was going to do. I mean not that I want to wash my clothes in a pond for the rest of my life or anything. But....you know today's the big day. Today's a very big day. Roman and Kiriakis, they're going to break into Ernesto's compound and they're gong to rescue Isabella. Now isn't that romantic to say nothing of saving lives.

JACK: Jennifer.

JENNIFER: And then somebody's going to find us and we're going to be rescued and we're going to go home and we going to be off of this island.

JACK: Jennifer. The water, you're going to....

JENNIFER: And when we get home, I'm going to have the exclusive on this story, aren't I?

JACK: Exclusive? What are you....

JENNIFER: Well Jack you have to admit. I mean you wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for me.

JACK: What....what are you talking about? I'm only here because of your being stubborn. You're....

JENNIFER: No Jack, I'm not being stubborn. I'm being tenacious like a good journalist should be.

JACK: No, you're being....just stop talking for a minute.

JENNIFER: What are you doing?

JACK: Just stop for a minute. What's wrong with you?

JENNIFER: What do you mean, what's wrong with me?

JACK: You're babbling.

JENNIFER: Babbling is not a nice word.

JACK: Alright, chattering.

JENNIFER: I'm not....I'm excited, I'm excited because we're going to get off this island.

JACK: Jennifer, there's definitely something wrong with you.

JENNIFER: There's nothing wrong with me at all.

JACK: You're not scared?

JENNIFER: I'm not scared. I'm nervous. I'm nervous because when all this is over I don't our professional considerations to get in the way of our personal feelings. I mean you can understand that can't you?

JACK JUST FROWNS AND WALKS AWAY. JENNIFER IS CONCERNED SHE OFFENDED.

JENNIFER: What did I say? Jack wait a minute.

JACK: You're not scared?

JENNIFER: Okay I'm scared.

JACK: Right! I told you. You're scared. Everybody's scared. You're surrounded by hostile influences and you don't have a dime to call home with.

JENNIFER: That's not what I'm scared of. I've waited so long to be with you and now that we're finally together, what if it's too late? I mean what if we waited too long? So just tell me if everything's going to be alright. (Beat) You're not saying anything. That's a bad sign. You usually always have something to say.

JACK: Sorry, I don't have a crystal ball.

JENNIFER: But you're always telling me that everything's going to be alright?

JACK: (Trying humor her) Okay. Everything's going to be alright.

JENNIFER: You're scared too aren't you?

JACK: Look I'm just no good at these cruises, that's all it is. You just end up fat with tan lines.

JENNIFER: Oh come on Jack, that's....

JACK: (Squatting) Jennifer, I do not like being on islands. It's not my expertise. You saw me trying to drag you out of the water. The fish were all laughing at me.

JENNIFER: You're not making me feel any better.

JACK: (Standing) I'm sorry about that. You're scared, I'm scared, everybody's scared. Everybody but Ernesto. I tell you one thing, at least if we go, we'll go with a smile on our faces.

JENNIFER: With a smile on our faces?

JACK: Yeah!

HE GRINS AND NODS AT HER.

JENNIFER: (Smiling back at him) You're one hell of guy Jack Deveraux.

JACK: I know.

THEY KISS.

JENNIFER: That was nice.

HE WALKS AWAY FROM HER WITHOUT SAYING ANYTHING AND SHE IS WORRIED. JACK HAS SOMETHING TO TELL HER BUT IS HAVING DIFFICULTY DOING SO.

JACK: Jennifer.

JENNIFER: What?

JACK: (Changing his mind) I've been thinking about the right time to....um....no it's not the right time.

JENNIFER: Well Jack if this isn't the right time, then when is the right time.

JACK FINALLY GETS THE COURAGE.

JACK: There's....um....something for you down there by the water.

JENNIFER LOOKS DOWN AND CAREFULLY PLACED ON A LARGE GREEN LEAF IS A SHELL RING.

JENNIFER: What is it?

JACK: What is it? It's a ring.

JENNIFER SMILES UP AT JACK, THEN REACHES DOWN FOR IT.

JENNIFER: Jack, you made this from a shell?

JACK: (Embarrassed) No! No, no, no, no. I didn't make it. I mean I know it probably looks like it's....ah...you know, made or stupid little....

JENNIFER: No, it doesn't look stupid, Jack.

JACK: It's just something I picked up and I probably shouldn't have picked it up cause, you know, it's just.....

JENNIFER: You made this all by yourself?

JACK: I told you I didn't make it. I'm going to put it back now if that's alright with you. It'll....

HE TAKES IT FROM HER.

JENNIFER: Jack do you want to give me that ring or not?

oldEp166C

JACK:
This would probably look better in it's natural setting. I mean....

JENNIFER: I think it would look better if it was on my finger.

JACK: You would probably like to think about that. It could cut you.

JENNIFER SHAKES HER HEAD.

JACK: You don't want to think about that?

SHE SHAKES HER HEAD AGAIN.

JENNIFER: No, I want you to put it on my finger.

JACK: Alright, I gave you a chance to think about it.

JACK TAKES HER HAND AND HOLDS IT STEADILY, WITH HIS OTHER HAND HE GENTLY AND LOVINGLY PLACES THE RING ON THE RING FINGER OF HER LEFT HAND. JENNIFER LOOKS DOWN AT IT.

JENNIFER: Now that wasn't so bad was it?
oldEp166E
JACK:
No, no, I guess it wasn't.

SHE ADMIRES THE RING ON HER FINGER AND THEN LOOKS LOVINGLY AT JACK.

SCENE TWO: SHANE AND STEVE HAVE GOT WORD OF WHAT ERNESTO DID. THEY KNOW THAT THE SHIP HAS SUNK AND THEY HAVE FLOWN TO ITALY IN THE HOPE OF FINDING SURVIVORS. THEY REALIZE THAT THERE ARE TOO MANY UNCHARTERED ISLANDS FOR THEM TO SEARCH EACH ONE SO THEY TRY THE RADIO HOPING THAT THE SURVIVORS, IF ANY, HAVE SOME FORM OF RADIO CONTACT.

SCENE THREE: MEANWHILE, JULIE AND VICTOR HAVE FOUND A RADIO WASHED UP ON THE SHORE. THEY ARE LOOKING AT IT WHEN JACK AND JENNIFER GET BACK WITH THE WATER.

JACK: What have you got there?

VICTOR: A radio.

JENNIFER: A radio!

JACK: Huh, on this island anything's possible. Ernesto probably pulled it out of his hat.

VICTOR: Well not far from that.

JULIE: We happened to be looking in the right direction. It just washed up on the beach.

JACK: Just like that.

VICTOR: I just hope we can get it to work. Here goes nothing.

VICTOR TWIDDLES THE KNOBS AND BANGS THE THING ON THE SIDE BUT THERE IS NO NOISE.

JULIE: Nothing's the operative word.

JACK: Just keep trying.

VICTOR TRIES AGAIN BUT IT IS SILENT.

VICTOR: Anybody else want to give it a try?

JACK: But....look I used to be Boy Scout. I can do this. Let me try.

JULIE: But did you earn a Merit Badge in electronics?

JACK TAKES THE RADIO.

JACK: Okay, come on. Just ah....I don't know. (He hits the side.) Come on now. HELLO HELLO THERE, MAYDAY, MAYDAY. HELLO SOMEBODY, ANYBODY, GILLIGAN.

THE RADIO IS SILENT.

JACK: Next.

JULIE DECIDES TO HAVE A GO.

JULIE: Hope I don't tune in to the local disco station.

JACK LOOKS ACROSS TO JENNIFER WHO IS FIDDLING WITH THE OLD CANVAS BAG THAT THE RADIO WAS IN.

JACK: I think I see a major depression setting in over here. I'm going to....

HE WANDERS OVER TO JENNIFER.

JACK: Look maybe I should have gone into the Army instead of the Boy Scouts but I mean lets look on the bright side. First a radio comes washing in, maybe next time it might be a telephone or a fax machine.

JENNIFER: Jack wait a minute, wait a minute. I'm not depressed.

JACK: Really, that's the spirit Jennifer. Don't get disa.....

JENNIFER: You know why? Because when a situation like this comes up, there's only one thing to do. Unbuckle your belt!

JACK LOOKS MORE THAN A LITTLE SURPRISED.

JACK: What? You mean....what, now!

JENNIFER: I'm not talking about that Jack, I talking about the radio.

JACK: Wait, I think I missed something here.

JENNIFER: Jack I'm going to fix the radio but I'm going to need your belt buckle to do it.

JACK: Okay.

JENNIFER STARTS WORKING ON THE RADIO.

JENNIFER: Right, all I have to do is put this piece here with this one over here.

JACK: And that's supposed to make a conductor.

JENNIFER: Well if it can make a connection, yeah.

SUDDENLY THE RADIO BEGINS TO CRACKLE.

JACK: HEY!

JULIE: OH!

JACK: HEY, HEY HEY! Wait a minute, you....you did it, you're doing it! You did it. I mean, you did it! YOU DID IT!

JENNIFER: Just like you knew I would, right Jack.

SCENE FOUR: SHANE AND STEVE ARE STILL TRYING TO PICK UP A SIGNAL. THEY TRY A FEW DIFFERENT FREQUENCIES AND START TO HEAR SOME SOUNDS COMING THROUGH.

SCENE FIVE: JULIE HAS A GO AT CALLING OUT BUT GETS NO RESPONSE SO JENNIFER TAKES OVER.

JENNIFER: Jack hold that.

JACK: Yeah, let me hold that. Wait, wait....

JENNIFER: HELLO IS ANYBODY THERE? WE NEED HELP. HELLO. IS ANYBODY THERE? CAN ANYBODY HEAR US?
