SCENE ONE: JENNIFER IS STILL TRYING TO CONTACT HELP ON THE RADIO.
JENNIFER: MAYDAY. CAN ANYONE HEAR US? WE NEED HELP. IF YOU CAN HELP PLEASE ANSWER US.
VICTOR: Do you think you ought try in Italian?
JULIE: Sure! Aiuta! That's help in Italian. AIUTA! Try it.
JULIE: And URGENTE.
JACK: Say it!
JULIE: Do it!
JENNIFER: URGENTE! AIUTA URGENTE, AIUTA URGENTE! Forget it. It's a stupid thing. It does not even work anyway. I don't know why we even bother.JACK: Oh come on. Don't! Hold on to that thing. I mean there's got to be somebody out there somewhere. Come on.
SCENE TWO: SHANE TRIES TO MAKE CONTACT AGAIN BUT GETS NO RESPONSE SO HE DECIDES TO JUST LISTEN AND TRY TO PICK UP THERE SIGNAL. HE BEGINS TO HEAR A MAYDAY.
STEVE: That sounds like it could be Jennifer. Doesn't it sound like Jennifer.
SHANE: Yeah you're right. Jennifer this is Shane Donavon, do you read me? I read you loud and clear, can you hear me. Come in, over. Jennifer I repeat, this is Shane Donavon. I need to know your location. Do you read me? DAMN.
THEY LOSE THE SIGNAL BUT STEVE SAYS THAT IT IS STILL GOOD NEWS BECAUSE IF JENNIFER IS ALIVE, THEN THE OTHER COULD BE TOO.
SCENE THREE: JENNIFER CONTINUES TO TRY AND MAKE CONTACT.
JACK: What's wrong?
JENNIFER: I don't know. It just went dead. The whole radio just went dead.
JACK: Come on you can do something. I mean you did it before.
JENNIFER: Alright, alright, I'll try it once again. (Beat) Well here's the problem. We have a defective belt buckle. That's what's wrong.
JACK: Oh don't blame it on me. I mean I'm already suing Saxton's for my zipper. Look, it was only supposed to hold up my pants, not pick up Radio Free Europe.
JENNIFER: This radio was the only way we were going to get rescued. Now it doesn't work.
JULIE: Sweetheart, sweetheart, we're not finished yet.
VICTOR: Julie's right. You were broadcasting through for a long time. Somebody's bound to have picked up the signal.
JACK: Well I....we need to do something because Toscano is expecting this whole thing to go off on schedule. I mean we gotta get out of here. Is there something you can do to build this up?
JENNIFER: I don't know. I can try. Maybe I can try to fix this buckle, bend it or something so that it works again.
JACK: Well you're in luck because bending metal with my bare hands happens to come naturally.
JENNIFER: Well swifty, you don't have a phone booth to do it in.
JACK: Well we'll just see. Let's get to work.
BO AND HOPE COME DOWN TO THE BEACH TO SEE HOW THE RADIO IS GOING.
BO: Hey everybody. How's it coming with that?
JENNIFER: Well not so good. I tried to use Jack's belt buckle as a conductor but....
BO: Smart girl.
JENNIFER: Yeah well I 'm not sure if I got my signal out or not but I do know that we weren't receiving any transmissions then the whole radio went dead.
BO: Want me to take a look at it?
JENNIFER: Yeah, yeah.
JACK: Go ahead.
BO HAS A GOOD LOOK AT IT JUST AS ROMAN ARRIVES.
BO: Did you talk to Toscano?
ROMAN: Yeah, yeah.
JACK: How did it go?
ROMAN: Yeah we had a good lunch but I don't know Jack. I don't think we're going to be exchanging Christmas cards.
HE SAYS THAT ERNESTO HAS STOPPED POISONING ISABELLA AND THAT SHE NOW KNOWS THAT VICTOR IS HER FATHER. ROMAN WANTS TO GO OVER THE PLAN ONCE AGAIN SO THEY ALL GATHER ROUND AND LISTEN TO THE DETAILS. HE ASKS IF ANYBODY HAS ANY QUESTIONS.
JACK: Ah let me get this clear....the three of you are going to go risk your lives to get Isabella and you expect me to stay here with the ladies and fix the radio.
ROMAN: That's right.
JACK *LOVES* THE IDEA THAT HE DOES NOT HAVE TO PLAY HERO.
JACK: Sounds good to me.
ROMAN: Thought you might like that.
ROMAN, VICTOR AND BO SET OFF TO SEE ERNESTO AND RESCUE ISABELLA WHILE JACK AND JENNIFER TRY THE RADIO AGAIN. JULIE AND HOPE ARE VERY WORRIED.
JACK: MAYDAY, MAYDAY, COME IN.
JACK: AIUTA, AIUTA.
JENNIFER: Urgente.JACK: AIUTA URGENTE! AIUTA URGENTE! AIUTA URGENTE! AIUTA URGENTE! COME IN, COME IN, DANGER!
SCENE FOUR: BACK ON THE MAINLAND, STEVE AND SHANE ARE LISTENING. STEVE IS ESPECIALLY EXCITED TO HEAR JACK'S VOICE.
STEVE: Oh man, that's Jack!
SHANE: Are you sure?
STEVE: That's Jack. I'm telling you man, the signal is weak, the accent is lousy but that's definitely Jack.
SHANE: Let me try. JACK THIS IS SHANE DONAVON. I CAN READ YOU LOUD AND CLEAR.
JACK: THAT'S SHANE, THAT'S SHANE! SHANE COME IN! SHANE, SHANE, COME BACK. We got 'em, we got 'em. SHANE, SHANE, HELLO WE'RE HERE, HELLO, SHANE. COME BACK SHANE.
SHANE: JACK IS EVERYONE ALRIGHT?
JACK: AH....YES. EVERYBODY'S STILL HERE. WE ALL SURVIVED. BUT LOOK WE'RE IN BIG TROUBLE HERE. WE'RE ON THIS ISLAND WITH ERNESTO TOSCANO. HE IS STILL ALIVE AND HE IS NOT THE BEST OF HOSTS. WE NEED HELP, OVER.
SHANE: ALRIGHT JACK. STEVE AND I ARE ON OUR WAY.
JACK IS THRILLED TO HEAR THAT STEVE CAME LOOKING FOR HIM, BUT HE DOES NOT SHOW IT.
STEVE IS JUST AS AFFECTED BY HEARING JACK'S VOICE AS JACK IS OF HEARING THAT STEVE IS COMING TO RESCUE THEM.
SHANE: CAN YOU TELL US WHERE YOU ARE, OVER.JACK: AH....WELL WE'RE NOT REALLY SURE.
SCENE FIVE: WHILE JACK IS TALKING, HOPE AND JULIE DECIDE TO GO AND CATCH UP WITH THE OTHERS TO TELL THEM THAT HELP IS ON THE WAY.
JACK: I don't think we can be anymore specific than that. We're just....we're ten miles....south of wherever that ship went down.
STEVE TRIES TO CALCULATE WHERE THEY ARE.
SHANE: Listen Jack, this is Shane again. We think we have a fix on your position. Steve and I are going to get a helicopter and we're going to search the area. Now this is what I want you to do. I want you to build the biggest bonfire you possibly can, alright. Build it on the beach, the bigger the better. It will be easy for us to spot you then.
JACK: Ah....yeah, definitely. We can build the biggest fire we can possibly build. Look the important thing is you get here as soon as possible. I mean Roman and Bo and Victor, everybody took off to see Toscano and this guy has got some weird ideas about hospitality. Get here as soon as you can, over.
STEVE: Let me talk to him.
SHANE: Sure.STEVE: Billy Jack!JACK: I'm here.
STEVE: Now listen man, you hang in there. We're on our way.
JACK SUDDENLY BRIGHTENS UP AND PRETENDS HE IS NOT SO SCARED.
JACK: Yeah, yeah, I'm hanging in there. Ten-four good buddy.
SHANE: Okay let's get out of here and find ourselves a chopper.
STEVE: Good buddy.
JACK PUTS THE RADIO AWAY.
JACK: Come on, we've got to build a fire. Come on. Let's get going. Get some kindling, get up, get going. We....come on, you can build a fire and be scared at the same time. It's alright.
JENNIFER: I'm not scared. I mean as long as I'm with you, I'm fine. I just hope Steve and Shane get here before it's too late.
JACK: They will, it's going to be alright, okay.
JACK WRAPS HIS ARMS AROUND JENNIFER TO MAKE HER FEEL SECURE.
SCENE ONE: IT IS LATER THAT NIGHT AND JACK AND JENNIFER ARE WAITING ON THE BEACH. THEIR CLOTHES ARE NOW VERY WORN AND DIRTY. JACK HAS QUITE A SHADOW ON HIS FACE AND IT IS ITCHY. HE SCRATCHES IT ALL THE TIME. HE IS STILL WEARING THE SHIRT WITH NO SLEEVES OR COLLAR AND HIS PANTS ARE LOOSE. HE HAS BARE FEET AND MESSY HAIR. JENNIFER LOOKS TIRED AND DIRTY TOO.
JENNIFER: I wish everyone would come back. I'm getting worried about them.
JACK CONTINUES TO TRY AND ASSURE HER.
JACK: Everything's going to be alright when Shane and Steve get here.
JENNIFER: Yeah but that could be hours from now Jack.
JACK: Well then we better just rest. Get some sleep and you'll be awake and aware when they show up.
JENNIFER: Yeah I suppose but I don't know if I can sleep.
JACK: Well I tell you what you should do. I want you to get over here and lie down and close your eyes and relax and I'll sleep.
JENNIFER: I can't Jack, I'm too worried about what's going to happen.
JACK: Oh come on, think about something good for once. Something else, huh.
JACK LIES BACK WITH HIS HANDS BEHIND HIS HEAD. JENNIFER LIES DOWN WITH HER HEAD ON HIS CHEST.
JENNIFER: Okay. I guess I could think about us. I can't wait to go home and tell everyone about us. Can you imagine what they're going to say at The Spectator? Vern's going's to die. He doesn't think we can even be in the same room together for ten minutes without fighting. It's just going to be real nice to walk around like normal people. Like a couple.
JACK IS FROWNING BUT JENNIFER IS NOT LOOKING AT HIS FACE. JACK SEEMS TO WANT TO BELIEVE THIS, BUT IS UNSURE IF IT IS POSSIBLE.
JENNIFER: Wouldn't it be nice to wake up every morning with our arms wrapped around each other?
JACK: ....Yeah, wouldn't it be something. That'd be something.
JACK DOZES OFF TO SLEEP. AS HE SLEEPS WE ENTER HIS SUBCONSCIOUS AND WE SEE A TRANSPARENT JACK EMERGE FROM A SLEEPING. HE STAND UP AND WALKS DOWN THE BEACH A LITTLE. JACK HEARS LAUGHTER.
JACK: What is that?
HE LOOKS BACK AT HIMSELF AND JENNIFER ASLEEP ON THE BEACH. BEHIND HIM TWO MEN WALK UP. HE TURNS TO FACE THEM. THEY ARE HARPER AND DUKE.
HARPER: Hello son! Remember us? This is a fine greeting after we've traveled all this way.
DUKE: What's the matter son, cat got your tongue?
HARPER: You've got to say something. After all, we are your fathers.
JACK: No, no, you guys are just a bad piece of pomegranate. We're not in the same lives anymore. Both of you, look.
HARPER: Yes we are. We'll always be with you son.
JACK: Don't start calling me that.
HARPER: Don't be a fool, Jack. You are who you are. You are what I made you.
JACK: Okay, once, maybe once but see I'm different now. I'm really different. I am. I'm a whole guy, aiye, aiye.....
DUKE: Hey, hey Billy. Did you think I ran out on you. I did once but never again. I'm with you now for the rest of your life.JACK: Well....maybe I don't want to be with you....or you. Maybe I'm through with both of you. Ever thought of that? Maybe....
HARPER: Of course you're different now.
JACK: Yes, that's right. I'm different. I'm.....I'm.....
DUKE: How very interesting. Why don't you tell us how this big chance came about. We'd love to know, isn't that right Harper?
HARPER: Oh yes, we're very big on rehabilitation and remorse. I use it on a regular basis every time my hearing comes up at the parole board.
DUKE: I like it, I like it.
JACK: Hey, you guys are good. You're both very good but I'm on to you. I'm on to both of you. See I know that I'm a reasonably good person now because Jennifer wouldn't have....she wouldn't have....
HARPER: Wouldn't have what?
DUKE: Wouldn't have what, slept with you, huh? Don't be a jerk Sonny boy. If a slap and a tickle could build character I'd be Mother Teresa.
DUKE AND HARPER LAUGH OVER THAT JOKE.
HARPER: Look I'm sure the challenge was the main attraction. The idea of seducing the virgin but you can only do that once.
DUKE: Well you wouldn't want to do it twice. Listen, listen, next time find yourself a girl that knows her way around a bed. You've done enough favors for little Jenny.
JACK: Don't talk about her like that.
DUKE: Oh, oh, oooooh. Maybe it's love, huh!
JACK: Oh maybe....maybe it is. Maybe I do love her.
DUKE: Oh sure, like I loved your old lady.
JACK: Look it's not.....how many times do I have to go through this. We are not the same. We are different. I am not....
HARPER: No you're not! You're like him and you're like me. I don't care how many fantasies you're nursing about love and marriage with Jennifer Horton. It won't happen.
JACK: Why not?
DUKE: Because guys like us don't need wives or kids. They get in the way. You understand? Then you have to discipline them. You know, you know, you know what I mean.
HE BEGINS TO HIT JACK.
HARPER: For their own good.
DUKE: Yeah. Ask your mother and ask your baby sister.
HARPER: I wish there was somebody you could ask about me. Unfortunately all the young ladies that I've.....disciplined.....are no longer with us. You'll just have to take my word for it. It's in the blood.
JACK: You know that one is older than the pomegranate. I'm telling you, we are not the same. We have changed, you have changed, I have changed.
HARPER: No, no, we have not changed and we never will.
DUKE: He's right Billy.
HARPER: And we're a part of you Jack. We always will be. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS!
JACK: Okay, that's it. Your time's up. I don't want to hear anymore. That's it. I don't want to hear anymore. Guys, go away. I don't want to hear anymore.
JACK BEGINS TO HOLD HIS EARS AND CRY OUT IN HIS DREAMS. HE ROLLS AROUND IN DISTRESS AND JENNIFER WAKES HIM UP.
JACK: Oh!JENNIFER: What's wrong? Are you alright?JACK IS IN A COLD SWEAT.
JENNIFER: Jack what's wrong, did you have a bad dream. Tell me what's wrong. Jack, tell me are you okay?
JACK GETS UP AND WALKS AWAY.
JENNIFER: You were having a bad dream, weren't you?
JACK: I'm alright.
JENNIFER: You don't look alright. What was it about?
JACK: It's nothing....it was just a ba....it's nothing important.
JENNIFER: Jack you're too upset for it to be nothing important.
JACK: I don't want to talk about it.
JENNIFER PUTS HER HAND ON HIS SHOULDER.
JENNIFER: Come on Jack, you know that you can....
JACK SNAPS AT HER.
JACK: I SAID I DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT!
JENNIFER IS A BIT SCARED AND SHE SAYS NOTHING. HE GLANCES AT HER AND THEN REGRETS WHAT HE SAID. THE MOMENT IS VERY AWKWARD. SHE WAITS FOR HIM TO SPEAK.
JACK: I don't want to talk about it. I want to forget about it.
JENNIFER: Okay, alright, if that's the way you feel.
JACK: That's the way I feel.
HE WALKS AWAY FROM HER AGAIN AND SHE IS VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THEIR RELATIONSHIP. THE NIGHTMARE HAS RESURFACED ALL JACK'S SELF-DOUBTS AND FEARS. THEY ARE STANDING APART THINKING OVER THE MOMENT WHEN THEY HEAR A HELICOPTER.
JENNIFER: What's that?JACK: It must be the helicopter.
SCENE TWO: STEVE AND SHANE SEE THE FIRE ON THE BEACH.
JENNIFER: Where is it, can you see it?
JACK: I don't know. It's out there somewhere.
JENNIFER: There it is Jack, there it is!
JENNIFER POINTS STRAIGHT UP ABOVE THEM.
JACK: Alright. DOWN HERE. DOWN HERE. RIGHT DOWN HERE. GET DOWN HERE. RIGHT DOWN HERE.JENNIFER: SHANE, STEVE, RIGHT OVER HERE.
SCENE THREE: THE HELICOPTER LANDS AND JENNIFER RUNS INTO SHANE'S ARMS. JACK STANDS BACK AND LOOKS AT STEVE. HE IS OVERCOME WITH EMOTION THAT STEVE HAS COME TO HIS RESCUE. HOWEVER, HE PLAYS IT COOL NOT REVEAL HOW MUCH IT MEANS TO HIM AND HOW MUCH STEVE MEANS TO HIM.
JACK: Long time no see!
JACK HAS A BIG GRIN ON HIS FACE. JACK IS EQUALLY PLEASED TO SEE JACK, BUT ALSO PLAYS IT COOL.
STEVE: Like the look Jackson. Too bad it took a shipwreck to get you out of them suits and ties, huh.
JACK ADJUSTS HIS TORN SHIRT.
SHANE: Listen you guys did a great job on the radio. We wouldn't have found you otherwise.
JENNIFER: Yeah, it's a good thing too. We've been so scared ever since we got washed up here.
STEVE: We had a few tense moments of our own back home.
JACK: You did?
STEVE: Yeah we did.
JACK IS HAPPY.
SHANE: Listen we've got a boat coming to pick up the other survivors. You just tell us where they are.
JACK: Well I....well they're actually right this way. I mean Ernesto's....they're in Ernesto's compound. The problem is I know where the door is but I can't figure out how to get inside. He's the only one that knows how to get in.
STEVE: You just get us to the door and we'll do the rest.
JACK: What about Jennifer?
SHANE: We'll take her with us. I don't want to leave her here alone. Here Jennifer can you handle that?
HE GIVES HER A LARGE HAND GUN.
STEVE: (To Jack) Do you know how to use one of these?
HE GIVES JACK SOME KIND OF MACHINE GUN. JACK HAS NO IDEA HOW TO USE IT, BUT ACTS MACHO.
JACK: Oh yeah. Sure, I've used one lots of time.
JENNIFER IS NOT SO SURE.
JACK: I mean it's got the great range, it's easy to hold, light.
JACK: And you just....get it right.
SUDDENLY THE GUN BEGINS TO FIRE OFF REPEATED ROUNDS AND JACK IS COMPLETELY LOST. JENNIFER AND SHANE DUCK.
SCENE FOUR: EVERYONE IS OKAY. STEVE GRABS THE GUN FROM A SHEEPISH.
JACK: Listen, it just went off!
STEVE: Just give me the gun. You could have killed everybody.
JACK: I'm sorry. It won't happen again. It won't happen again.
STEVE: You're damn right it won't happen again. I didn't come halfway round the world to see you shoot your feet off, much less everybody else's!
JACK LOOKS LIKE A TYPICAL YOUNGER BROTHER BEING TOLD OFF BY A BIG BROTHER.
STEVE: Here. Take this. This is more your speed. The safety is on. You leave it there until you're ready to use it.
STEVE HANDS JACK A SMALL HAND GUN, AND SHOWS HIM HOW TO USE IT.
JACK: It was an accident. I'm sorry.SHANE: Alright, let's get the others. Which way are they?
JACK: Ah, dead ahead. Oh bad choice of words!
SHANE: Well come on, let's go.
JENNIFER IS STILL LEERY.
JENNIFER: Jack, are you sure you're going to be okay with that?
JACK: Yes, I'm going to be okay with that.
JENNIFER: I just don't want you to shoot your foot off or something.
JACK: I won't. Look I....everything's going to be alright. I'll be....I'll be right behind you.JENNIFER: Great!
SCENE FIVE: THEY ALL WALK OFF TO FIND THE COMPOUND. JACK LEADS THEM TO WHAT HE THINKS IS THE ENTRANCE.
JACK: It's over here. Right here. This is the way in but ah, I mean only Ernesto knows how to get in.
STEVE: There must be a way to crack it.
JACK: I tell you what. Ernesto has some kind of magic trick or something. that he does to get in and out but he doesn't, you know....he doesn't tell us about it.
SHANE AND STEVE GO THROUGH THEIR SUPPLIES AND DECIDE TO BLOW UP THE ENTRANCE. THEY PLACE PLASTIC EXPLOSIVE AROUND IT AND BLOW IT APART.
STEVE: We're in!
JACK: Oh! Are you ready?JENNIFER: Yeah, let's go.
SCENE SIX: MEANWHILE INSIDE THE COMPOUND, ROMAN'S PLANS HAVE BACKFIRED AND ERNESTO HAS CAPTURED HOPE. HE IS HOLDING HER IN A CAGE OVER A VAT OF BOILING ACID AND THREATENING TO DROP HER. BO AND ISABELLA ARE PLEADING FOR HIM TO LET HER GO AND BO OFFERS TO TAKE HER PLACE. HOPE KNOW THAT SHE'S GOING TO DIE AND SHE TELLS BO THAT HE MUST LOOK AFTER SHAWN DOUGLAS AND TELL HIM HOW MUCH SHE LOVES HIM. THEN ERNESTO GETS IN THE CAGE WITH HER AND THERE IS A MASSIVE EXPLOSION AND WHEN THE SMOKE CLEARS THE CAGE IS DISTORTED AND ERNESTO AND HOPE HAVE DISAPPEARED.
SCENE ONE: JACK, JENNIFER, SHANE AND STEVE HAVE JUST ENTERED THE COMPOUND WHEN THEY HEAR THE EXPLOSION.
JACK: What the hell was that?
STEVE: That was one hell of an explosion. That's what that was.
THEY HEAD OFF IN THE DIRECTION OF THE EXPLOSION. MEANWHILE JULIE, VICTOR, ROMAN, ISABELLA AND BO ARE ALL WONDERING WHAT HAPPENED. BO IS SCREAMING FOR HOPE ALONG WITH JULIE.
JACK: Well what now?
SHANE: We find a way inside, that's what now.
SHANE: We've got to find a way in there.
JACK: Well what about here?
STEVE: You got a problem with that?
JACK: I don't have a problem but I think you will. I mean look at this thing. I mean this is harder than a rooooCK!
JACK LEANS OF THE DOOR AND IT GENTLY OPENS.
JACK: Wait a minute, we're got something going in here. THERE'S A FIRE IN HERE. THERE'S PEOPLE IN HERE. COME ON OUT. THIS WAY. COME OUT, THIS WAY!
STEVE: Come out!JACK: WAIT A MINUTE, THE WHOLE GANG'S HERE. COME ON.
SCENE TWO: JULIE, VICTOR AND ISABELLA STAGGER OUT OF THE CHAMBER. SHANE ASKS WHAT THE EXPLOSION WAS AND VICTOR TELLS THEM THAT HOPE IS DEAD. BO WILL NOT LEAVE AND ROMAN IS TRYING TO GET HIM OUT.
VICTOR: This tunnel is going to get like an oven. We've got to get back to the beach.
JACK: Alright, come on, let's go. Come on. Jennifer, Isabella, come on.
ISABELLA: I am not leaving without Roman.
JACK: Just leave Isabella.
ISABELLA: Jack I am not leaving without Roman and that's final.
VICTOR TELLS HER THAT HE CAN LOOK AFTER HIMSELF. THE OTHERS OFFER TO STAY BUT JACK THINKS THEY SHOULD GO.
JACK: Let's go, Julie let's just go!
VICTOR DECIDES TO STAY BUT JULIE GOES WITH JACK AND JENNIFER.
JACK: Alright let's go. Come on, Jennifer let's go!
SCENE THREE: JACK, JENNIFER AND JULIE GO DOWN TO THE BEACH. JULIE IS FRANTIC WITH WORRY. JACK AND JENNIFER TRY TO REASSURE HER, BUT DEEP DOWN THEY KNOW THAT HOPE WILL NOT BE FOUND.JULIE: Can you see the rescue boat?
JACK: Not yet.
JULIE: Maybe when they do get here, they'll be able to help....they'll be able to help....
JENNIFER: Julie you know this is probably one of Ernesto's tricks.
JENNIFER: He probably has Hope hidden somewhere and the guys are going to find her and they're going to bring her back.
JACK: Yeah, I mean this is just classic for Ernesto. I mean he makes people appear then disappear. I mean first there was....first Isabella was gone and now she's back.
JENNIFER: Right. They'll probably be back here any minute and when the boat comes we can leave with Hope.
JENNIFER: And we can get off this miserable island together.
JACK REALIZES WHAT JENNIFER SAID AND TURNS TO LOOK AT HER, SLIGHTLY HURT.
JULIE TRIES TO BELIEVE THEM BUT DOES NOT REALLY AND WALKS AWAY TO BE ALONE. JACK SEEMS DISTANT, THE NIGHTMARE AND WHAT HAPPENED TO HOPE HAS CAUSED HIM TO REVERT TO HIS FORMER SELF-DOUBTING, PESSIMISTIC SELF. JENNIFER REALIZES THE CHANGE IN HIM AND IS WORRIED THAT HE WILL TURN AWAY FROM HER AGAIN.
JENNIFER: You know I really believe that Hope is alright.
JACK: Yeah, I do too.
JENNIFER: You don't do you? I mean you don't think anything bad happened to Hope do you?
JACK: I....I just think that sometimes life comes along and throws you something worse than you can ever imagine, right in your lap.
JENNIFER: That's a terrible way to live.
JACK: Well, that's reality.
JENNIFER: That's not reality.
JACK: Believe whatever you want to believe, if you want to keep on living n your little dream world.
JENNIFER: You think it's living in a dream world to think everything's going to be alright?
JACK: I think that som....I think....that sometimes you win and sometimes you lose.
JENNIFER: Sometimes I don't understand you Jack.
JACK: I think it's a very simple philosophy.
JENNIFER: No, I mean I don't understand your attitude.
SHE TAKES HIS HAND IN HERS.
JENNIFER: I mean what happened to make you feel this way?
JACK: Your cousin happened, that's what happened.
JACK: What Ernesto did, that's what happened.
JENNIFER: After what we shared in the cave, you finally started to sound hopeful about the future Jack, and now it's.... it's....
JACK: Someday you'll grow up.
JENNIFER: Well if that's what you call growing up, I'd rather stay in Never Never Land.
JACK: Well right now all I want to do is find civilization, shower and shave and get a hot cup of Joe. In the meantime let's hold off on this discussion until we get back to civilization if we ever do.
JACK STANDS UP AND GOES TO LOOK FOR THE RESCUE BOAT AND JENNIFER IS LEFT TO CONTEMPLATE WHAT HE SAID AND DID NOT SAY.
SCENE FOUR: THE BOAT ARRIVES AND BO COMES DOWN TO THE BEACH SAYING THEY CANNOT FIND HOPE. BO REFUSES TO LEAVE THE ISLAND UNTIL HE FINDS HER. STEVE AGREES TO STAY WITH HIM. THE OTHERS ALL PREPARE TO BOARD THE BOAT.
JENNIFER: This has been the worst time of my life....and the best. I'll never forget it.
JACK: Neither will I....but I don't think we'll be coming back here every year for an anniversary. Come on.
JACK, JENNIFER, VICTOR, JULIE, ISABELLA AND ROMAN ALL BOARD THE RESCUE BOAT AND HEAD BACK TO THE MAINLAND AND SALEM.
