SCENE ONE: POLDY'S BIRTHDAY, CONTINUED. BO IS HOLDING CARLY HOSTAGE IN FRONT OF ALL THE GUESTS. HE WANTS SAFE PASSAGE FOR JENNIFER, MRS. HORTON AND ALL THE SALEM GUESTS. JACK, KAYLA AND JULIE ARE WATCHING. SHANE CREEPS UPSTAIRS TRYING TO FIND THE ELEVATOR IN LAWRENCE'S ROOM SO HE CAN FIND ALICE

 

BO: Alright Alamain what's it going to be? Are you going to co-operate or am I going to have to kill your little lady friend here.

CARLY: How could you hurt me after everything we've been through together.

BO: You should know how. Do you think I like being led around by the nose to this scum's house, huh.

CARLY: How much do you know?

BO: Everything.

CARLY: What are you going to do Bo?

BO: I think turn abouts fair. I'm going to use you to free Jennifer and Mrs. Horton. (To Gregory) You, come here. COME ON MOVE IT. You take orders pretty well. Get the rest of these guests out of here. Come on, come on. Start with the boyfriend boy here.

 

POLDY REFUSES TO LEAVE WITHOUT HIS SON BUT LAWRENCE ASSURES HIM IT IS FOR THE BEST AND THAT HE MUST LEAVE. POLDY RELUCTANTLY LEAVES WITH GREGORY.

 

BO: Right, something will happen to your girlfriend here if you don't release Jennifer and Mrs. Horton.

LAWRENCE: I don't know anyone by those names.

BO: Oh I'm sorry I forgot. You know Jennifer as Katerina, your lovely wife. You have a strange version of wedding vows. Love, honor and be held hostage.

LAWRENCE: I'm afraid you're badly misinformed Mr. Brady. My wife is free to come and go as she pleases. She's only here because she wishes to be.

BO: That's a lie.

LAWRENCE: Is it? Why don't you ask her?

BO: Jennifer, what about it?

JENNIFER: What Lawrence says is true. I'm his wife now. My name is Katerina Alamain and my place is here with my husband.

 

JACK IS COMPLETELY PUZZLED BY JENNIFER'S STATEMENT.

JACK: Oh wait a minute. Alright, hold it right there. Excuse me, Jennifer, at this moment we have a tremendous opportunity to get the hell out of here.

BO: Jennifer, listen to him. He knows what he's talking about for once.

JENNIFER: I can't listen to him. I have to stay here with Lawrence.

 

JACK SHAKES HIS HEAD IN FRUSTRATION.

BO: Jennifer, why? What is he threatening you with? Are you worried about your grandma? You don't have to be. We got her bargaining chip right here. Alamain, get Mrs. H down here in five minutes or this lady dies.

LAWRENCE: I'm so sorry Dr. Manning but it seems your fate is out of my hands. I won't be able to help you.

 

EVERYBODY IS SHOCKED AT LAWRENCE'S COOL APPROACH.

SCENE TWO: DOWNSTAIRS, FRANKIE IS TRYING TO GET A MESSAGE OUT TO JACK BY GIVING A NOTE TO THE MAID. HE TELLS THE MAID THAT IF SHE HELPS HIM HE WILL HELP HER BECAUSE HE IS A VON LEUSCHNER AND HAS PLENTY OF MONEY.

 

MAID: What would I have to do?

FRANKIE: Nothing really. All I want you to do is get a note upstairs, okay, to a guy named Jack. Six feet, brown hair, okay. Can I count on you?

MAID: I'll do my best.

 

THE MAID LEAVES WITH THE NOTE.

SCENE THREE: UPSTAIRS, SHANE IS IN LAWRENCE'S ROOM LOOKING FOR THE ELEVATOR. HE SUDDENLY HEARS IT COMING. OUT STEPS THE MAID FROM FRANKIE'S ROOM. SHE LOOKS AT SHANE WHO IS SIX FEET WITH BROWNISH HAIR.

 

MAID: You wouldn't happen to be Jack would you?

SHANE: Jack? Well now what if I would?

MAID: Well then this is for you.

 

SHE HANDS HIM THE NOTE AND RUNS AWAY. SHANE READS IT.

 

SHANE: I'm back down here. Francois.

 

SHANE SEES THE NAME AND THINKS ABOUT OVER A CONVERSATION HE ONCE HAD WITH CARLY WHERE THE NAME FRANCOIS CAME UP. SHE HAD TOLD HIM THAT FRANCOIS WAS AN OLD BOYFRIEND.

SCENE FOUR: AT THE PARTY, BO IS STILL HOLDING CARLY.

 

BO: Oh come on Alamain, you don't expect me to believe that you're going to let this lady die.

LAWRENCE: Why should it matter to me?

BO: Because she was once your lover.

CARLY: Bo you have to listen to me. There's a lot about this you don't understand.

BO: I understand plenty. It's just a little too late that's all. And it's my own damn fault. From the very beginning I knew I shouldn't have trusted you. All your little mysteries, all the co-incidences that put us together. And you always had explanations, didn't you and I believed you instead of listening to my own instincts. You made a fool out of me.

CARLY: I cared about you.

BO: YOU DID NOT CARE ABOUT ME. YOU CARED ABOUT ME TRUSTING YOU. So you could bring me to this place and trade me for your brother, Alamain's prize prisoner.

 

SLOWLY JACK STARTS TO REALIZE WHAT BO HAS SAID.

 

JACK: Wait a minute, are you.... are you saying that she's Katerina?

JENNIFER: And Frankie is your brother?

 

JACK AND JENNIFER BOTH REALIZE THEY HAVE BEEN DUPED. CARLY LOOKS ASHAMED AT BOTH OF THEM.

 

CARLY: Jennifer....

JENNIFER: You lied to me. All those years you let me go on believing something that wasn't even true.

CARLY: I had to.

JENNIFER: No you didn't! You could have trusted me. You could have told me anything. Instead you let me believe that you'd never even seen this man before, that you'd never even met him.

LAWRENCE: On the contrary. She knew me very well, didn't you Katerina? So well in fact that we were not only lovers but engaged to be married. That is until Mr. Brady came along and ruined everything.

BO: You were that woman? The woman he was arguing with in the cafe?

LAWRENCE: That's right Mr. Brady and if you'd minded your own business instead of interfering in ours, instead of attacking me without cause, my former fiancà and I could have worked out our differences and the wedding could have taken place as scheduled.

BO: Oh well that's too bad the wedding didn't happen. Obviously you two have got something else going on.

CARLY: No Bo. It's not the way he sounds.

LAWRENCE: That's exactly the way it is. After all you kept your end of the agreement by bringing me Mr. Brady in exchange for your brother Francois or should I call him Frankie.

JENNIFER: Wait a minute, are you telling me that Frankie is in on this too?

LAWRENCE: From the very beginning. Every moment he spent in your quaint little town of Salem was part of a plan orchestrated by her.

JENNIFER: Katerina is that true?

CARLY: Jennifer he's twisting everything around.

LAWRENCE: No more than the rest of you have been bending the truth. You really haven't been very honest with each other, have you? In fact you've lied about everything including your feelings. But you'd rather blame me for destroying you than to admit that your deceit and your duplicity has finally led you to destroy yourselves. (Beat) Now my wife and I have business elsewhere.

 

LAWRENCE STARTS TO LEAD JENNIFER OUT OF THE ROOM.

 

JACK: Hold it right there!

 

THEY BOTH STOP AND TURN TO FACE JACK WHO IS STANDING ALONE IN FRONT OF EVERYONE.

 

JACK: Jennifer, hello.

 

HE WAVES.

 

JACK: Yes Jennifer, not Katerina. Now this has been going on for quite some time, playing the happy heiress, happily married to Lawrence Alamain. And it's.... it's.... it's been pretty good. I mean it definitely deserves honorable mention marks. But the problem is, it's over! You're in a room surrounded by people who have known you most of your life as Jennifer Horton. So it's time to drop this thing, alright. He even knows it. Lawrence knows it. So he asked for honesty in feelings, let's give it to him. Tell him the truth.

 

LAWRENCE HAS HIS HAND FIRMLY ON JENNIFER'S SHOULDER.

 

LAWRENCE: Yes my love I'd be interested in hearing the truth. You know how I feel about honesty.

JACK: You hear that? That's intimidation. That's what he's been doing to you. He's been scaring you, right, when he's got you off by yourselves. Now you are surrounded by friends. People who know you, people including myself who know you. So I want you to tell him who you love. (Beat) Do you love Vern? No! Are you in love with Bo? No! Shane, Kayla, no! WHO DO YOU LOVE? YOU LOVE JACK! Tell him that. Tell him I LOVE JACK. Tell him that you love me.

 

JENNIFER IS SILENT AND SCARED.

 

JACK: Tell him. You can do it. I'll make sure it's alright.

LAWRENCE: And how do you propose to do that Jack? After all this is my domain. I'm in complete control of everything that happens here.

JACK: That's very true, that's very true. But you never know.... what could happen.... at the last minute. I mean I may actually think of something here. And if I do, you just watch out. So let him have it Jennifer, tell him. Just.... just say the word.

 

JENNIFER IS SILENT FOR A FEW MORE SECONDS AND IS TRYING NOT TO CRY BUT SLOWLY SHE GETS HER COURAGE BACK, GATHERING STRENGHT FROM JACK'S LOVE FOR HER, AND HER LOVE FOR JACK.

 

JENNIFER: I love you Jack.

 

JACK PUTS HIS HANDS TO HIS EARS, BEAMING.

JACK: YES, YES!!! SAY IT! DID YOU HEAR THAT, DID YOU HEAR THAT?

JENNIFER: I never stopped loving you.

JACK: THAT'S IT! THERE IT IS AGAIN. SEE?

 

JACK LOOKS AROUND THE ROOM, HIS EYES GLEAMING WITH PRIDE FOR HER AND PRIDE IN HIS LOVE FOR HER.

JENNIFER: You mean more to me than anyone ever has.

JACK: LISTEN!

JENNIFER: And I don't want to go on without you.

LAWRENCE: I'm warning you Jennifer.

JACK: Keep going, come on.

 

SHE REMOVES LAWRENCE'S HAND FROM HER SHOULDER.

 

JENNIFER: I'm not afraid of you anymore because I'm not alone. I have everybody here with me.

 

JACK IS BURSTING WITH PRIDE.

 

JENNIFER: Just take me with you Jack, please.

JACK: You don't know how long I've been waiting to hear you say that. So, let's go, come on.

 

JACK SLOWLY WALKS TOWARDS HER AND THEN SUDDENLY GRABS HER AND GETS HER OUT OF THE WAY JUST AS A TRAPDOOR IN THE FLOOR OPENS AND LAWRENCE DISAPPEARS.

SCENE FIVE: BO SHOOTS AT HIM BUT MISSES. JACK AND JENNIFER FALL TO THE FLOOR.

 

BO: Oh dammit, he could be anywhere by now. Are you guys alright?

JACK: Yeah, we're fine and it's high time to get the hell out of here, right.

JENNIFER: We've got to get grandma and we've got to get Frankie.

JULIE: Do you know where he is?

JENNIFER: Yes I do.

JULIE: And what about grandma?

JENNIFER: Well I'm assuming she's in the same place.

BO: Well lead the way, let's go.

JENNIFER: We have to go through Lawrence's bedroom, it leads down to the guest rooms.

JACK: Alright, let's go.

 

JACK BEGINS TO WALK UP THE STEPS WHEN HE NOTICES KAYLA STILL STARING AT THE TRAP DOOR.

 

JACK: Kayla it's time to go.

KAYLA: He's getting away. The man that killed Steve is going to get away.

JACK: Look at me. He's not getting away. Nobody gets away scott free, remember. I swear to you, he's not getting away.

 

JENNIFER LEADS THE OTHERS TO LAWRENCE'S BEDROOM.

SCENE SIX: IN LAWRENCE'S BEDROOM THEY FIND SHANE UNCONSCIOUS ON THE FLOOR. HE HAS BEEN KNOCKED OUT BY A GUARD. CARLY TRIES TO HELP HIM BUT BO TELLS HER TO GET AWAY FROM HIM. KAYLA DECIDES TO STAY WITH SHANE WHILE THE OTHERS LOOK FOR FRANKIE AND ALICE. JACK PUSHES A CHAIR UP AGAINST THE DOOR.

 

JACK: Okay, no one's going to get in here at least for a little while. (To Kayla) Are you going to be alright?

KAYLA: Yeah, I'll be fine.

JACK: Some plan, huh. Alright, let's go. Everybody in the elevator. Come on, let's go, we're going down. Here we go. See ya later.

 

JENNIFER AND JULIE GET IN WITH JACK AND THEY GO DOWNSTAIRS. BO AND CARLY GET THE NEXT ELEVATOR. JENNIFER BANGS ON FRANKIE'S DOOR BUT HE DOES NOT SEEM TO HEAR.

 

JENNIFER: FRANKIE!

JACK: Save your energy, it's soundproof. He can't hear you.

BO: Hey how's it going here?

JACK: Well....

JULIE: We're trying to get the door open.

BO: Well get back, we'll blow it open.

 

BO GETS OUT HIS GUN.

 

JACK: But wait.... no wait a minute. We.... through here. There's a.... you can hear through this. See it's open. This is my old room.

JENNIFER: Frankie, it's Jennifer, can you hear me?

FRANKIE: Yeah, Jen, I can hear you.

JACK: (In his Jasper Jasper Scottish accent, mixed with Jimmy Cagney) Well we're breaking you out, see, see.

JENNIFER: Bo is going to shoot the lock off the door, alright.

FRANKIE: Bo?

JENNIFER: Yes, he's here and we're going to find my grandmother and get out of here. Just stay away from the door alright.

JACK: Francoise get out of the way from the door alright. He's going to blow it.

BO: Plug your ears it's going to be noisy.

 

HE BLOWS THE LOCK APART AND THEY ALL RUSH INTO THE ROOM.

 

BO: Hey Frankie.

CARLY: Francois.

FRANKIE: Katerina.

 

THEY HUG AND EXCHANGE WORDS WHILE JENNIFER AND JACK JUST STARE AT THEM, THINKING OF WHAT THEY HAE DONE TO KEEP SECRETS. JENNIFER WALKS OUT INTO THE HALLWAY AND JACK FOLLOWS HER WITH BO AND JULIE.

 

JULIE: I'm glad Carly is reunited with her brother but we've still got something to do.

BO: Yeah we gotta find Mrs. H.

JULIE: We've got to get her out while we can still get out.

 

JACK GETS OUT HIS BLUEPRINT.

 

JACK: I tell you what I'm going to do.

BO: What are you going to do?

JACK: I've got a blueprint here. Right here's the tunnel that I escaped out of before. Unfortunately Lawrence has sealed that tunnel up.

BO: Well according to this, that's the only way out of here. We're going to have to try it.

JENNIFER: Even if it's a dead end.

BO: Even if it's a dead end. We're going to have to go for it. Jack, you take everybody and go to the tunnel and see what we can do about getting out.

JACK: Well I can get there but what about you? What are you going to do?

BO: I'm going to look for Mrs. H.

JULIE: And I'm going to go with you. BO: No, it'll be faster if I go....

JULIE: I won't be any good to anybody until I find her.

BO: Alright, alright. We'll meet up with you guys later.

 

BO AND JULIE GO OFF TOGETHER.

 

JACK: I've got a bad feeling about this.

SCENE SEVEN: JENNIFER GOES BACK INTO SEE FRANKIE AND CARLY.

 

JENNIFER: (Angry) So this was all part of the plan wasn't it? Four years ago you told me that you were Frankie Donner. So basically you lied to me the same way Katerina did.

FRANKIE: Jen, I'm so sorry.

JENNIFER: And you led me to believe that we met by chance when actually this was all prearranged wasn't it?

 

FRANKIE NODS.

 

JENNIFER: So were your feelings for me prearranged too?

FRANKIE: No. No I swear it. I never meant to hurt you and neither did Katerina.

JENNIFER: I did all of this to protect you because I cared about you. I thought that you were my best friend.

CARLY: I am your friend. That will never change.

 

JACK HAS BEEN LISTENING TO ALL THIS FROM THE DOOR.

 

JACK: Ah.... excuse me, I'm going to be everybody's friend. Ah.... it's time to go. We've got to get out of here. No true confessions alright, let's go, come on.

 

WHEN FRANKIE GOES TO MOVE HE WINCES IN PAIN AND JENNIFER TELLS CARLY THAT LAWRENCE'S MEN BEAT HIM UP. CARLY GOES TO LOOK AT HIS INJURIES.

 

JACK: Ah, whatever you do, just make it quick alright. We got to go. Come on, come on, let's go.

 

JACK LEADS JENNIFER OUT OF THE ROOM.

 

JACK: I'm sorry about that. I know that wasn't easy. You gave up everything for him and.... he's kind of stringing you along all this time.

 

HE PUTS HIS HAND ON HER SHOULDER.

 

JENNIFER: I don't want to think about that now. I'll deal with all of that later. Right now I just want to go home and I want to be with you.

 

THEY PUT THEIR ARMS AROUND EACH OTHER AND HOLD ON TIGHT.

 

JACK: I guess that's exactly what we're going to do.

JENNIFER: Okay.

JACK: Let's go.

JENNIFER: Alright.

 

JACK LEADS JENNIFER DOWN TO THE TUNNEL TO ESCAPE.

SCENE EIGHT: JULIE AND BO FIND ALICE LOCKED IN ANOTHER ROOM AND THEY BREAK IN TO RELEASE HER.

SCENE NINE: MEANWHILE LAWRENCE HAS MANAGED TO GET IN HIS HELICOPTER WITH GREGORY AND POLDY. HE TELLS GREGORY THAT EVERYTHING HAS BEEN TARRANGED.

SCENE TEN: JACK, JENNIFER, FRANKIE AND CARLY HAVE JUST REACHED THE TUNNEL WHEN THE GROUND STARTS TO SHAKE.

 

JENNIFER: JACK!

JACK: Oh take it easy. Don't worry. This is just like the one before.

CARLY: I don't think so Jack.

JACK: What do you mean you don't think so, come on. Is it?

CARLY: Not this time, no.

JACK: No?

 

THE SHAKING GETS WORSE AND EARTH STARTS TO FALL FROM THE ROOF AND ROCKS START TO TUMBLE.
