LEOPOLD OVERHEARS LAWRENCE TALKING TO GREGORY ABOUT THE FATE HE HAS IN STORE FOR HIS GUESTS. LEOPOLD REALIZE WHAT AN EVIL MAN LAWRENCE REALLY IS AND HE GOES BACK TO THE VILLA TO SEE IF HE CAN HELP.

SCENE TWO: MEANWHILE ROMAN HAS GOT WORD BACK IN SALEM THAT THE OTHERS ARE IN TROUBLE AND HE TRAVELS TO LAWRENCE'S COUNTRY TO RESCUE THEM.

SCENE THREE: JACK, JENNIFER AND FRANKIE ARE STILL TRAPPED IN THE TUNNEL AND SEPARATED FROM THE OTHERS.

JACK: Here take that.

JACK HANDS FRANKIE A BIG ROCK.

FRANKIE: Ah damn.

JACK: What, what?

FRANKIE: Oh nothing, just dust.

JENNIFER: I hope what's left of this ceiling doesn't come down.

JACK: Look it won't if we keep moving forward so let's keep.... wait a minute....

JENNIFER: What?

JACK: Look at that, right there look.

FRANKIE: Is that what I think it is.

JENNIFER: Oh my gosh I think that's light. I think it's daylight.

JACK: Yeah.

FRANKIE: Yeah, could be.

JACK: Francoise, wait a minute.

FRANKIE: What?

JACK: You're looking at a serious claustrophobe stuck in the human equivalent of a sausage casing. If the light at the end of the tunnel there isn't the light at the end of the tunnel I want to find out. I don't want to sit here and just say it could be. Let's go. Come on dig out this rubble for me.

JENNIFER: Alright.

JACK: Come on.

JENNIFER: Come on Frankie help me.

JACK: Come on.

JENNIFER: What's the matter, why aren't you helping us?

FRANKIE: I'm leavin'. I've got to help Katerina.

JENNIFER: Frankie, what are you talking about? We got all the way this far, you can't go back now.

FRANKIE: Yeah, I can't turn my back on her.

JENNIFER: What are you talking about? You're not turning your back on her. We're not turning our back on anybody. We want to get out of here so we can go get help and get out

JACK: That's right. We've got to get help right now. Right this way, come on.

FRANKIE: That's fine but look you guys, you just take care of yourselves, right.

JACK: Oh what are you, the last martyr? Come on, let's start thinking rationally here for a moment. Don't start flying off the handle, that's what I do....

FRANKIE: Hey, hey! We're talking about my sister here.

JACK: Ohhh!

JENNIFER: Everybody just calm down. Just calm down, it's okay.

FRANKIE: No. No it's not. Katerina, she's everything, she's my family. She'd do anything for me and I just can't turn my back on her.

FRANKIE GETS UP AND STARTS TO CRAWL AWAY.

JENNIFER: Frankie wait. I gotta go talk to him Jack.

JACK: No, just let me go get me. Wait a minute Francoise.

JENNIFER: Frankie, wait.

JACK: Wait, wait a minute, wait a minute!

FRANKIE: What?

JACK: Don't you think we understand what's going on? We've both got family. I've got a sister.... I got.... I got.... Adrienne Kiriakis is out there for me too you know. And I used to have.... used to....

FRANKIE: Yeah I know Jack. (Beat) I'm real sorry. Steve, he was like family to me too.

JACK: Good, then you understand what we're talking about here.

FRANKIE: Yeah I do. That's why you should understand what I'm saying here because if you had the chance to save Steve, you would wouldn't you?

JACK: No, no, no. It's not the same thing.

FRANKIE: Wouldn't you have?

JACK: You go that way, you're going to get yourself.... yourself.... and.... and Carly killed too.

FRANKIE: Oh really and running away, what's that going to do?

JACK: No, that's not running away. Nobody said anything about running away. We're going to go this way where all the people are, alright. Half this place has come down on our heads right. We're going to wait for the rest of it to come down? No. We go out that way, we're going to find the police and the police are going to help us find the people....

FRANKIE: Have you met the police around here, have you? I have. You know who the work for, they work for Alamain.

JACK: Okay I'll tell you what we'll do. We'll.... we'll go to the US Embassy. We're going to contact the ISA....

FRANKIE: Jack, Jack, you go. I'm staying okay.

JACK: What...what are you talking about, staying. You.... you're going to go that way, right. There is nothing that way, you've already said so yourself. It's blocked off.

FRANKIE: Then I'll unblock it!

JACK: By yourself. Now you're already to do it by yourself.

FRANKIE: Look I don't want your opinion here. I'm going to do it. I said I'm going to do it and I'm going to do it.

JACK: No.

FRANKIE: Yes.

JACK GRABS FRANKIE BY THE FOOT.

FRANKIE: Let go of me! I'm warning you Jack.

JACK: No, I am not going to let you move one foot until you get over this and thinking about yourself. Stop thinking about yourself. This is not just about ego. Look if you go there, you're going to get yourself killed and your sister killed.

FRANKIE: And what is that supposed to mean?

JACK: It means we've got a lot of people that way who are more than willing to help us if we can get to them. Now what's more important, getting those people to help get your sister or getting to her yourself?

FRANKIE: Alright, alright, I'll come with. Let go of my foot would you.

JACK: With pleasure.

FRANKIE: Well I'll help you and once I see you're able to get out I'm going back for Katerina.

JENNIFER: Oh Frankie you just said that you were staying with us and you were....

FRANKIE: I said.... I said.... I'm going to help you and then I'm going back.

SCENE FOUR: JACK SCRAMBLES AROUND AND MANAGES TO REMOVE A FEW MORE ROCKS THEN THEY ARE ABLE TO SEE THE LIGHT MORE CLEARLY.

JACK: Aaaaah, got it.

JENNIFER: It's the sky. I think it's the sky. Look.

JACK: I tell you what, you should be able to see.... you should be able to see the garage. It's coming out right around there somewhere.

JENNIFER: Okay we did it. We really did it.

FRANKIE: Well not quite, let me just get this.

JENNIFER: What are you talking about?

JACK: Just a moment. I gotta just.... just give me a minute here. I've got to catch my breath.

JENNIFER: Okay wait. I've got an idea. Why don't we all regroup before we make the last charge so to speak, okay.

FRANKIE: Yeah why not, why not. I mean one more big shove through there and we're out of this hell hole.

JENNIFER: That's right, we're almost there.

JACK: That's right.

JENNIFER: And we're going to get everybody and we're going to get on the first plane out of this god forsaken country and we can be back in Salem by tomorrow.

FRANKIE SMILES.

FRANKIE: Ah sure has been a while.

JENNIFER: Well Salem hasn't changed.

FRANKIE: Can't wait to see it.

JACK: Or smell it!

JENNIFER: What?

JACK: You know the smell of home. You know like.... well for you it'd be, you know, what.... fish and for you donuts and for me it'd be.... ah.... it'd be the smell of.... ah.... green tuna casserole.

JENNIFER: (Laughs) Green tuna casserole. Jo's tuna casserole.

JACK: Right, right, you know. And undoubtedly the worst tasting food in the universe. Of course unfortunately Jo doesn't know that, she thinks it's my favorite dish. Funny thing is at this moment, she may very well be right.

FRANKIE: And Jen, what about you, what do you miss most about home?

JENNIFER: Oh that's easy, my grandparents. As soon as I get home I'm going to go to my grandparents house and I'm going to try to talk my grandfather into doing Thanksgiving dinner all over again. And I'm going to have him make my grandma and me the guests of honor.

JACK: Heh.

JENNIFER: What about you Frankie, what are you going to do when you get back in Salem?

FRANKIE: Well, I'm going to walk into the fish market....

JACK: Heh, I told you.

FRANKIE: .... and I'm going to give mom and pop the surprise of their life. Then I'm going to go upstairs and give Max a great big hug and tell him I ain't never leaving him again.

JENNIFER LOOKS ACROSS AT JACK WHO IS OBVIOUSLY THINKING OF STEVE AND THE LOST OPPORTUNITIES WITH HIS BROTHER.

SCENE FIVE: A FEW SECONDS LATER HE GETS MOVING AGAIN.

JACK: Well what are we doing here? We got to break out of here, see.... see.

JENNIFER: Come on. Go on Jack.

JACK: Time to get back to that rock pile, see.... see. Okay, okay I'll get this top one.

FRANKIE: I'll take the other end.

JENNIFER: Be careful.

FRANKIE: Are you ready?

JACK: Okay. Yeah.

THEY BOTH LIFT A VERY HEAVY ROCK AND REVEAL THE OPENING WHERE THE LIGHT IS COMING FROM.

JACK: AAAAAHHHHHH! Oh look there it is. Wait a minute, what the hell is this?

JACK LOOKS THROUGH THE HOLE AND SEES BLUE SKY AND PALM TREES BUT IT LOOKS FAKE.

JACK: What the hell is.... just a minute here. I gotta...this is.... this is just an optical illusion.

JENNIFER: What?

JACK: Look it's just fake, it's a trick, it's an optical illusion.

JACK PUNCHES HIS FIST THROUGH THE PICTURE THAT IS COVERING THE OPENING. BEHIND IT IS JUST MORE ROCKS.

JACK: Look at that!

JENNIFER: I can't believe that we've been digging all this time and we didn't get anywhere. We're still trapped. We're still in this tunnel. I can't believe this. We've dug all this way and we didn't get anywhere. This whole thing was a trick.

JACK: Damn! Oh damn!

FRANKIE: I can't waste anymore time. I'm looking for Katerina.

JENNIFER: Frankie.

JACK: Oh right, right, rather than waste time down here why don't you waste time a hundred yards thataways, huh. FOOL!

FRANKIE HEADS BACK DOWN THE TUNNEL FROM WHERE THEY'VE DUG LEAVING JACK AND JENNIFER ALONE.

SCENE SIX: JENNIFER LOOKS VERY DEPRESSED AND JACK KNOWS THAT SOMETHING ELSE IS WRONG.

JACK: What's wrong?

JENNIFER: Everything's wrong.

JACK: Okay come on, I'm sorry. Okay I'm being naturally cynical that's all. We're going to get out of this, alright. I've just decided that right now, we're going to get out of this. We're going to be alright.

JENNIFER: He's not going to get away with this. Lawrence Alamain is never going to get away with this.

JACK: That's right, that's right.

JENNIFER: When I get home I'm going to go to the TV station and I'm going to go on the air and tell everyone what kind of man he is. I've already started writing my story and I'm going to do it.

JACK: Exactly.... what are you going to tell them. I mean can't you give me a little sneak preview of what the story's about. Look I know if you want to protect your sources that's alright but you know that I know that something's up. Then again, you can always rely on me to help you out. I'd like to.... if you'd let me.

JENNIFER: Look Jack I realize that you want to help okay but there's really nothing more to talk about. You know everything that happened.

JACK: Well I don't know about that. I think we should review the story points here. First of all, we got Lawrence, he made you marry him, right. And we have Lawrence who's overjoyed at treating me like landfill. But you know we need more here. What else do we have?

JENNIFER: He threatened my grandma and Frankie. He used them.

JACK: Yeah that's Lawrence, he's nothing if not thorough. But come on we need more, we need details, details.

JENNIFER: I don't want to talk about him anymore okay.

JACK: What is the matter? Don't be afraid to talk. We're here, that's all over now, we're here. When you're with me, I mean you know, editor in chief. Nobody's going to get you or hurt you. (Beat) Not even me. (Beat) You know.... ah.... I used to think that.... ah.... I didn't really fit into your.... ah.... your future plans in the most positive way. And I realized that that's a.... rather stupid because here I am doing everything I can.... to look after you. I mean look I.... I.... I.... I'd cut off my right hand to save you. (Since he is left-handed) Or maybe my left hand (A little laugh), I don't know. Maybe my left, I don't know.

JENNIFER GIVES HIM A WEAK SMILE.

JENNIFER: Thanks Jack.

JACK: Well I mean that. (Beat) I would do anything for you. (Beat) And that's not saying how much it is because you know I'm.... I'm no hero. I don't swim, I don't run, I don't.... jog or.... climb through tunnels or.... go out on ledges or anything like that but.... ah, if somebody came after you....

JACK HOLDS UP HIS FIST.

JACK: What I said before about, you know, hurting. I was.... I was.... I was afraid of hurting you.... I mean I.... that's definitely kept us apart I think. (Beat) But not as much as my fear of getting hurt. (Beat) I mean I worry.... I worry all the time. I was just.... I was just worrying about us.... I mean the point of what I was saying is that I was worrying.... I wasn't worrying about you as opposed to me or me as opposed to you. I was worrying about us. (Beat) I think the operative word in there is us.

JENNIFER: (Beat) That's okay Jack.

JACK: I have a.... I have a very positive feeling.... about us. (Beat) And I do love you.
oldEp219B
JENNIFER: I don't know what to say Jack.

JACK: Well you could.... always say you love me too.

JENNIFER LOOKS AWAY AND IS SILENT WHICH SCARES JACK.

JACK: Huh, huh?

JACK RUBS HIS FINGERS ON HER CHEEK JUST THE WAY LAWRENCE DID AND SHE REMEMBERS ALL THE DETAILS OF THE RAPE.

JENNIFER: I do, you know I do.

JACK: So what's wrong, what's the matter?

SHE PULLS HIS HAND AWAY FROM HER FACE.

JENNIFER: This is what's wrong. This is wrong. It's the wrong time. We should be trying to get out of here. That's what we should be trying to do.

JACK: You're right of course but I've been saying that since the beginning.

JENNIFER: Okay.

SHE STARTS TO CRY AND JACK IS STILL WORRIED.

SCENE SEVEN: THEY CONTINUE TO MOVE ROCKS FOR A WHILE THEN JENNIFER WANTS A REST.

JACK: Here, here.

JENNIFER: Alright, just....

JACK: What is it?

JENNIFER: Nothing, I just need a rest for a minute, okay.

JACK: Oh sure, go ahead, take all the time you need. I tell you something, we are going to get out of here with or without Francoise. I mean I can see the sunlight already, the real sunlight this time.

JENNIFER: Yeah, even though I'm slipping I actually believe that.

JACK: Well I can top that. Even though we're slipping here, I believe it too.

MEANWHILE UP ON SOLID GROUND, LEOPOLD HAS GONE BACK TO THE VILLA TO HELP THEM ALL ESCAPE. HE IS SHATTERED BY WHAT HE KNOWS OF LAWRENCE NOW. HE GRABS A SPADE AND TRIES TO FIND THE ESCAPE HATCH. JACK AND JENNIFER SUDDENLY HEAR A VOICE.

JACK: What was that?

JENNIFER: Wait a minute Jack. It could be Gregory or Lawrence. Don't say anything.

POLDY: JULIE!

JACK: No, that's not Gregory or Lawrence, that's Leopold.

POLDY: ARE YOU THERE? IS ANYBODY THERE?

JENNIFER: You're right, you're right, that's Leopold. He'll help us Jack I know he will. He can help us.

SCENE SCENE EIGHT: MEANWHILE FURTHER BACK UP THE TUNNEL, FRANKIE IS SEARCHING FOR KATERINA. HE KEEPS CALLING HER NAME AND SUDDENLY THERE IS A LANDSLIDE AND HE IS KNOCKED OUT AND PARTIALLY BURIED IN DIRT.
