SCENE ONE: JACK HAS WOKEN UP, IT SEEMS THE WHOLE THING WAS JUST A STRANGE DREAM HE HAD WHILE UNCONSCIOUS. THE REAL WILD BILL IS STANDING OVER HIM.

 

WILD BILL: Hey snap out of it, snap out of it. You're dreamin, you're dreamin.

JACK: What happened, what happened? Where am I? Who am I?

WILD BILL: Well that's a good question.

JACK: Well.... wh.... wh.... what are you doing here? What's going on here? Where am I? Wait a minute, how did I get so vo.... voc.... vocal ?

 

JACK REALIZES THAT HE IS COMPLETELY CONSCIOUS AND THAT HE CAN TALK AGAIN.

 

JACK: I'm talking, I'm talking, I'm talking. Can you hear me? I'm talking. You can hear me can't you. You can hear me. You can hear me. I'm talking.

WILD BILL: I can hear you.

JACK: I'm talking, I'm talking, hear, I'm talking. I'M TAAAALKING!!! HAHAHAHAH.

JACK STARTS DANCING AROUND WITH WILD BILL.

JACK: Listen to me, I can talk. I can sing. TALK! TALKIE, TALKIE, TALKIE, TALK!

WILD BILL: Don't sing.

 

CRENNA COMES IN TO SEE WHAT ALL THE NOISE IS ABOUT. WILD BILL AND CRENNA LOOK AT JACK AS IF HE IS COMPLETELY CRAZY.

 

CRENNA: What the hell's going on in here?

JACK: I'm talking. JC I can talk. Can you hear me? I'm talking.

CRENNA: Good for you kid.

JACK: Thank you.

CRENNA: I'm glad to hear that. While you're talking will you kindly explain who this dude is?

JACK: Oh who the hell cares? The important thing was that it was just a dream, just a dream!

 

JACK WALKS UP AND GIVES EACH OF THEM A BIG KISS ON THE MOUTH.

THEY BOTH IN SHOCK.

 

JACK: I love ya, I love ya.

 

HE GRABS WILD BILL'S HAT.

 

JACK: Gents, sorry I've got to go. There's a wedding out there. Miss Horton's waiting. Take care.

 

HE RUNS OUT OF THE ROOM AND THE COWBOYS BOTH LOOK AT EACH OTHER AND SQUIRM. THEN THEY SLOWLY WIPE THEIR MOUTHS.

SCENE TWO: OUTSIDE, JENNIFER IS DRESSED AND READY AND JACK IS STILL NOWHERE TO BE FOUND.

 

JENNIFER: Okay, I've been good, haven't I, Carly?

CARLY: Yes, you've been very good.

JENNIFER: Okay, then why, can anyone in this arena tell me why?

CARLY: Well, you know what, maybe we could go ask the minister.

 

JO THEN LOOKS ACROSS AND SEES JENNIFER.

 

JO: Jennifer.

JENNIFER: Jo.

JO: Oh you look beautiful.

JENNIFER: Hi Jo, thank you. Where is he?

JO: Who?

JENNIFER: Jack.

JO: I don't know.

JENNIFER: He is your son, isn't he Jo?

NEIL: Jennifer....

CARLY: Ah, don't even bother.

JENNIFER: Alright, so what you're telling me is that you haven't heard from Jack at all? Is that what you're telling me? JO: No, I have not heard from Jack at all. He was supposed to pick me up and he didn't. If it wasn't for Dr. Curtis I don't think I'd be here at all and....

NEIL: Jo, Jo, Jo. I think we should go back to our seats.

JO: Oh...well if Jack's not going to be here why go back to our seats?

NEIL: Jennifer, congratulations. I'm sure everything will work out perfectly.

JO: Do you know something that we don't know?

NEIL: I only wish I did.

 

NEIL TAKES JO BACK TO HER SEAT AND JENNIFER CONTINUES TO WORRY.

 

JENNIFER: Carly, this isn't going very well.

CARLY: Well?

JENNIFER: I knew I should have done something. I should have had someone watch him. I should have had him chained up to something.

CARLY: Oh come on Jennifer.

JENNIFER: No, I'm okay. I'm alright.

CARLY: Are you?

JENNIFER: Yes, yes, I'm going to be fine. Okay this is the most memorable day of my life. The flowers are spectacular, everyone I love is here....

CARLY: Yes.

JENNIFER: .... waiting to be happy for me to throw thirty-five pounds of rice at me, I look spectacular and fabulous in this dress....

CARLY: You look great.

JENNIFER: .... and now I have to go tell five thousand people....

CARLY: Uh, uh, four!

JENNIFER: .... you're right, you're right, I'm getting carried away.... I have to tell four thousand people that this was a joke. That there is no wedding, there is no groom and that everyone has to....

CARLY: Jennifer, come on.

JENNIFER: No, I'm going to be fine. I'm going to be fine, okay. I will fall apart later. Meanwhile you have a great seat and I will go do what has to be done.

CARLY: Hmmm. Are you sure you're going to make it?

JENNIFER: No, not remotely. Just wish me luck.

CARLY: Luck.

JENNIFER: It's too late.

 

JENNIFER WALKS OUT THE CENTER OF THE AISLE.

 

JENNIFER: Excuse me, could everyone sit down please for a minute. I have an announcement to make if everyone could just settle and sit for one moment.

 

THEY ALL TAKE THEIR SEATS.

 

JENNIFER: I just want to.... ah.... I just want to make an announcement to everyone, family, friends....

 

JACK: HELLO! HI!

SCENE THREE: JENNIFER TURNS AROUND TO SEE JACK. SHE AT FIRST CANNOT BELIEVE IT.

 

JENNIFER: JACK?

JACK: HOLD IT, MISS HORTON, WAIT!

 

 

JENNIFER RUNS TOWARDS JACK AS HE COMES STUMBLING OVER THE ARENA.

 

JENNIFER: Jack is that you?

JACK: WAIT A MINUTE! I MADE IT, I MADE IT!

JENNIFER: JACK, WHERE ARE YOU?

JACK: I MADE IT!

JENNIFER: JACK YOU MADE IT!

JACK: (Looking around) WAIT A MINUTE, WHO ARE ALL THESE PEOPLE....

JENNIFER: JACK WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN.... AAARRRGGGGHHHH!

 

 

JACK TRIPS AND STUMBLES OVER A LOW FENCE AND FALLS STRAIGHT INTO THE WELL. WATER SPRAYS UP ALL OVER JENNIFER.

 

JENNIFER: JACK!.... Jack.

 

JACK EMERGES FROM THE WELL SOAKING WET. HE TRIES TO PUT THE WET HAT ON HIS HEAD BUT IT FALLS OFF.

 

JACK: I think we made, so to speak.

JENNIFER: Jack, you can talk!

JACK: Yes, better than ever. You're going to have to deal with now and for the rest of all the days of our lives.

 

HE PATS HER HAND AND SHE GIVES HIM A HUGE SMILE.

 

JACK: Now come on, what are we all waiting for? Let's get hitched!

 

SHE LEANS OVER AND TAKES HIS FACE IN HER HANDS AND GIVES HIM A HUGE KISS. THE CROWD CHEERS LOUDLY AND JACK AND JENNIFER (ACTUALLY MATT AND MISSY) GRIN AS THEY KISS.

SCENE FOUR: A SHORT TIME LATER, JENNIFER IS BACK IN THE DRESSING ROOM WITH CARLY WHO IS TRYING TO DRY HER OFF WITH A HAIR DRYER.

 

CARLY: How are we doing?

JENNIFER: What?

CARLY: I said how are we doing?

JENNIFER: We're doing fine. We're getting married.

CARLY: Jen, turn to me.

JENNIFER: Look I don't care about my dress. I don't care about my hair. I don't care where Jack's been for the last twenty-four hours. We're getting married!

CARLY: What did you say?

JENNIFER: MARRIED! WE'RE GETTING MARRIED, CARLY, WE'RE GETTING MARRIED.

SCENE FIVE: IN THE OPPOSITE DRESSING ROOM, MARCUS IS TRYING TO PULL OFF WILD BILL'S BOOTS WHILE JACK PUTS ON HIS SHIRT.

 

MARCUS: Now come on, come on now. You're holding up the show.

JACK: I beg your pardon. I am the show.

MARCUS: Would you stop scrunching your toes?

JACK: I am not scrunching my.... toes!

 

SUDDENLY THE BOOT COMES OFF AND JACK ALMOST FALLS OVER.

 

JACK: Alright, it's tux time.

 

THERE IS A KNOCK ON THE DOOR THEN JO JUST ENTERS. JACK IS STANDING IN A T-SHIRT AND BOXER SHORTS.

 

JO: Jack?

JACK: Oh wait a minute, (Trying to cover himself) the groom's not decent.

JO: Oh I have seen this view before.

JACK: Well...

JO: Listen I've got to talk to you.

JACK: Well, you talk and I'll.... I'll tux.

JO: Look I don't care where you've been. I don't care what you've been up to. I don't care!

JACK: Is that what you want to talk about?

JO: No, I want to talk about Jennifer. What's the matter with you?

MARCUS: Jo, look we don't have time for that now, at least right now, okay.

JACK: Right.

JO: She's worried sick about you. She's frazzled and she's frightened and you're the only person who can do anything about it.

 

JACK LOOKS WORRIED. HE LOOKS AT MARCUS TO FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO.

 

JACK: Well best man, what am I supposed to do?

JO: She needs your reassurance.

MARCUS: Well go reassure her. I don't know.

 

JACK GRABS A CLOWN COSTUME THAT HIS HANGING IN THE ROOM AND HOLDS IT IN FRONT OF HIM.

 

JACK: Excuse me.

MARCUS: Yes.

JACK: Excuse me.

 

THE THREE OF THEM WALK OVER TO JENNIFER'S DOOR.

 

JACK: Ah.... (He knocks).... ah, HELLO IN THERE. MISS HORTON, HAVE YOU GOT A LAWN MOWER RUNNING IN THERE? MISS HORTON?

 

INSIDE CARLY IS BLOW DRYING JENNIFER'S HAIR, JENNIFER HEARS SOMETHING.

 

JENNIFER: What's that, did you hear something?

CARLY: What?

JACK: MISS HORTON?

JENNIFER: Wait a minute, turn it off, turn it off. I think it's Jack.

JACK: MISS HORTON?

JENNIFER: JACK, IS THAT YOU?

JACK: Yes it's me. Get.... don't you know the sound of my voice by now? You got it so you can hear me in there?

JENNIFER: Yeah I can hear you.

JACK: Look I just wanted to let you know there's no getting out of this. Ah.... there's no way to stop this wedding whether you and I want it even if we.... if we didn't want it, which we both do. You got me.

JENNIFER: Yeah, yeah, I got you.

JACK: Well that's your cross to bear. But, um.... look I just wanted to give you a chance to.... to.... if there's anything you wanted to get off your chest, now's the time to get it off.

JENNIFER: I love you Jack Deveraux. Do you hear me? I LOVE YOU!

 

OUTSIDE, JACK SMILES.

JACK: Yes well, you know.... you know.

 

AT THAT MOMENT BILL COMES ALONG TO COLLECT JENNIFER.

 

BILL: Oh excuse me folks. Jack, overdressed?

 

BILL GOES INTO JENNIFER AND SHUTS THE DOOR.

 

BILL: Hey everybody ready? It's time. Let's go, we're going.

JENNIFER: Hey we are definitely going. We are definitely getting married. Here we go. Are you ready Carly? Here we go.

 

BILL ESCORTS JENNIFER OUT THE DOOR AND JO COVERS JACK'S EYES WITH HER HAND.

 

JENNIFER: Close your eyes Jack.

JACK: Pay no attention to the clown in the corner.

 

JENNIFER SQUEEZES JACK'S CHIN AS SHE WALKS PAST.

 

JENNIFER: No peeking.

 

MARCUS SEES JENNIFER AND CANNOT HELP BUT REMARK.

 

MARCUS: That's beautiful.

JACK: Yes.

 

JACK SMILES TO HIMSELF.

SCENE SIX: TIME FOR THE CEREMONY TO BEGIN AND JACK AND MARCUS COME AROUND THE CORNER TO TAKE THEIR PLACES. JACK IS EXTREMELY HANDSOME IN BLACK PANTS AND A CREAM DINNER JACKET WITH A CREAM AND PALE PINK ROSE PINNED ON.

 

MARCUS: You alright?

JACK: Alright?

MARCUS: Yeah.

JACK: Of course I'm alright. I'm walking, talking, heading down this aisle to get married for the fourth and final time in my life. I'll live.... I hope.

THEY TAKE THEIR PLACES AT THE HEAD OF THE AISLE.

 

JO: It's really going to happen. I never thought I'd see the day.

EVE: Everything is so beautiful isn't it? I bet there's going to be an earthquake or something.

FRANKIE: Eve.

EVE: You never know, it could start raining frogs.

JULIE: Eve, don't be ridiculous. It only rains frogs in Africa.

 

THE MUSIC BEGINS AND CARLY WALKS SLOWLY DOWN THE AISLE AND GIVES JACK A SMILE.

THEN THE BRIDAL MARCH BEGINS AND BILL APPEARS AT THE END OF THE AISLE. HE EXTENDS HIS ARM AND JENNIFER STEPS FORWARD AND TAKES IT. SHE IS DRESSED IN A STRAIGHT SHEATH OF EMBROIDERED LACE WITH LACE STRAPS AND OFF THE SHOULDER SLEEVES OF SILK ROSES IN PALE PINK. SHE HAS A TRAIN AND A SHORT FULL VEIL. THEY SLOWLY MAKE THEIR WAY DOWN THE AISLE AND AS SHE APPROACHES.
