Valentine's Day 1993: Jack Tells Jennifer
Is Meeting with the Backers that Gave
Him the Money, but He Really Has a
Secret Meeting the Owner of the Money.

[Air date mid-February, 1993]

SCENE ONE: JACK AND JENNIFER HAVE GONE TO THE VALENTINES DAY BENEFIT AT WINGS. JO IS THERE TOO AND SHE DRAGS JACK ASIDE TO TALK TO HIM.

JO: I'm having second thoughts about your ad in the Personals column.

JACK: I don't care if you're having second, third or fourth thoughts. It's going to happen. I'm going to the pier tonight at 8pm sharp. I just hope that this other person has seen my ad this afternoon and will be there at 8pm, sharp.

SCENE TWO: THE PARTY CONTINUES WITH EVERYBODY IN SALEM ARRIVING INCLUDING BILLIE. JACK KEEPS CHECKING HIS WATCH AND SO DOES BILLIE.

JACK WALKS OVER TO SPEAK TO JO.

JACK: All right, I'm going to be leaving a couple of minutes to go to the pier. Just make sure that Jennifer doesn't follow me. You can do that?

JO: Jack, I think I should go with you.

JACK: No, absolutely not. This is going to be tricky enough as it is.

JO: How about dangerous.

JACK FROWNS AT JO.

SCENE THREE: MEANWHILE BILLIE IS TALKING TO PHILIP ABOUT TONY, THE GUY WHO REALLY OWNS THE MONEY. SHE IS WORRIED THAT SOON HE WILL ARRIVE IN SALEM AND WANT IT BACK. SHE TELLS PHILIP THAT THE GUY WHO STOLE THE MONEY MUST BE A JERK BECAUSE HE ANSWERED THE AD AND IS MEETING HER TONIGHT.

SCENE FOUR: JENNIFER AND JACK MEET UP WITH ALICE WHO IS TASTING THE DESSERT.

MAGGIE: You did an absolute beautiful job decorating Jennifer.

JENNIFER: Thanks Aunt Maggie. Jack had a wonderful time helping me.

JACK: I did....

JENNIFER: .... and Carrie.... Carrie helped me so much too.

JO: Well I just love Valentine's Day.

ALICE: Oh so do I. Anything to excuse eating chocolate.

JACK: Heheh. Well I'll have to excuse all this happiness and joviality but I really have to go Jennifer. I have a meeting.

JENNIFER: Oh, I'm going to walk Jack out. I'll be right back.

JACK: You don't have....

JENNIFER: I want to.

JACK: I really have to go. I have to go.

JENNIFER WALKS TO THE DOOR WITH JACK.

SCENE FIVE: MEANWHILE BILLIE CHECKS HER WATCH AND SEES THAT IT'S TIME TO GO.

[Air mid-February 1993]

SCENE ONE: JACK IS STILL TRYING TO GET OUT THE DOOR WHEN TOM BEGINS AN AUCTION TO RAISE MONEY. JENNIFER WANTS JACK TO STAY.

JACK: I have to go. I have to go.

JENNIFER: Didn't you hear what John just said. He's going to pay $100,000 to dance with....

JACK: I know, to dance with Marlena Evans Brady. It's not the way I'd spend my money but unfortunately I don't have the money to spend. Maybe after my meeting with the backer. I can't be late.

JENNIFER: All right, do good. Good luck.

JACK: I will.

HE GIVES HER A QUICK KISS.

JACK: Yes.

JENNIFER: Good, bye.

JACK LEAVES. FOLLOWED SOON AFTER BY BILLIE.

SCENE TWO: JENNIFER TELLS JO THAT JACK IS STILL INSISTING ON DOING ALL THE CHORES AND THAT HE IS NOT THE SAME JACK ANYMORE. SHE ALSO SAYS THAT SHE HOPES HE DOES WELL WITH THE BACKERS. JO HEARTILY AGREES.

SCENE THREE: JACK GOES DOWN TO THE PIER AND CAREFULLY WALKS DOWN THE STEPS CHECKING THE PHONE AS HE GOES. IT IS VERY FOGGY AND HE CAREFULLY MOVES ACROSS THE PIER. AT THE SAME TIME BILLIE IS APPROACHING FROM THE OTHER DIRECTION.

SCENE FOUR: BOTH JACK AND BILLIE HAVE ARRIVED AT THE PIER FOR THEIR MEETING, NOT REALIZING WHO THEY WILL BE MEETING. BILLIE SPOTS JACK FIRST, AND IT IS SHOCKED TO SEE HE IS THE ONE THAT "STOLE" HER MONEY.

BILLIE: What are you doing here?

JACK: What are you doing here? I don't believe this. Look this is no place for a young lady, not in the middle of the night. You've got to go.

BILLIE: I don't take orders from you.

JACK: Look, I'm sorry. What is your name?

BILLIE: Billie Reed is my name.

JACK: Billie Reed?

BILLIE: Yes.

JACK: Jack Deveraux. I'm sorry but I don't have time to argue tonight. I have a very important meeting right here on this pier. I need privacy. Please leave.

BILLIE: No. I won't.

JACK: Dammit. You don't seem to understand....

BILLIE: No. You don't seem to understand. I have a very important meeting here myself.

JACK: Well you better have your important meeting some place else.

BILLIE: No, I'm very sorry but my meeting is set for this pier and I'm not leaving. My life is at stake.

JACK: Oh.

BILLIE: And a lot of money.

JACK: Money! What about money?

BILLIE: What do you mean, what about money?

JACK: Oh no.... .oh no, no, no, no.

BILLIE: You.... answered my ad? Of course you did. How else would you know about....

JACK: I don't know about any money in any barn!

BILLIE: I didn't say anything about any money in any barn. You stole my money didn't you?

JACK: I didn't steal it. I.... I.... I found it.

BILLIE: You stole it. You stole it and I want it. I want it right now, mister.

JACK: This has got to be some kind of a sick joke.

BILLIE: I told you, you jerk, it's not a joke. It was my money that you took.

JACK: All right, explain to me. Where would someone like you get that kind of money?

BILLIE: Well it wasn't exactly my money.

JACK: Oh, I see.

BILLIE: No. I'm holding it for someone and he's coming here in a couple of days to get it.
oldEp485B

JACK: Well, good luck. I never said I had it.

BILLIE: Yes you did say you had it. And I want it!

SCENE FIVE: BILLIE HAS JUST DEMANDED THAT JACK RETURN THE MONEY. JACK HAS NO INTENTION OF DOING SO.

JACK: I'm sorry.

BILLIE: You're sorry? Look you just tell me where we can go pick up this money, okay.

JACK: Go?

BILLIE: Yeah. I'm sure you're not holding $100,000 on you right now, now are you?

JACK: No, no and if we're being perfectly honest here, it wasn't $100,000. It was ninety-seven five.

BILLIE: Fine, fine. You still have it, right?

JACK: Yes, yes, I still have it. In a way.

BILLIE: What do you mean, in a way?

JACK: I can't touch it. It's invested.

BILLIE: Well then you just uninvest it.

JACK: No, no. No, you can't just do that sort of thing.

BILLIE: Look, I don't think I'm making myself clear here. This man that I borrowed the money from, he's not a nice man. He doesn't like lawyers. And you know, I bet you have a couple of nice knee caps there. Get my drift?

JACK: Quite.

BILLIE: Yeah well he's not going to stop at your knee caps. So when are we going to get the money?

JACK: Don't you think you're over dramatizing just a bit?

BILLIE: No, I don't. I want that money and I want it now. Dammit!

JACK: Well I can't give you something I don't have.

BILLIE: Well you're just going to have to think of something now, aren't you?

JACK JUST STARES AT HER.

BILLIE: Your wife, she's a big TV star, isn't she?

JACK: No, no, no. She's not. She used to have a little local talk show and that is all.

BILLIE: She's a Horton. old family money. You just go get the money from your wife.

JACK: You're not going to come near my wife, you understand?

BILLIE: Fine, fine. You're not going to get it from her? I will.

SHE STARTS TO WALK AWAY.

JACK: You're going to regret that.

JACK CHASES AFTER BILLIE.

SCENE SIX: MEANWHILE, JENNIFER HAS A TALK TO PHILIP AND TELLS HIM THAT SHE IS GOING TO FIGHT SANDRA STEVENS AND GET HER SHOW BACK.

SCENE SEVEN: ILLIE COMES RUNNING INTO WINGS AND SO DOES JACK.

JO: Jack, what happened? I've been worried sick.

JACK: Nothing happened. Where's Jennifer?

JO: I don't know. I think she's off somewhere talking with Carly.

JACK: Good, good

. JO: Good? Why, why, what's going on?

JACK: Nothing's going on just as long as Jennifer doesn't come back here. I have to stick around and make sure I can get her out of here on time. I just had a little mix-up with the backer, that's all. Nothing.

SCENE EIGHT: PHILIP ASKS BILLIE HOW IT WENT AND HE SAYS THAT THE GUY WHO TOOK THE MONEY DOES NOT HAVE IT ANYMORE BUT HE HAS A RICH WIFE AND SHE IS GOING TO GET IT FROM HER.

SCENE NINE: JENNIFER RETURNS TO SEE JACK.

JACK: Jennifer?

JENNIFER: Yes.

JACK: You're back.

JENNIFER: Yes, I'm back.

JACK: We have to go home now.

JENNIFER: No, I need to talk to Philip one more time.

JACK: Listen you can talk to Benedict Arnold tomorrow morning if you like. We have to go home.

JENNIFER: Jack, please. I just need to say one thing to him.

JACK NOTICES BILLIE ACROSS THE ROOM.

JACK: No, no, we have to go right now. I've got a headache like you wouldn't believe. Please. Trust me.
