SCENE ONE: STILL AT BLONDIE'S. JACK TALKS TO VICTOR.
JACK: Victor.
VICTOR: Well, Jack, how's the campaign going?
JACK: Great.
VICTOR: Put that small check I gave you to good use, I
trust.
JACK: Oh certainly. I most certainly did.
VICTOR: (Whisper) Everything is in place. We're all set.
JACK: Good, good.
VICTOR: Not having second thoughts are you?
JO COMES OUT OF THE LADIES ROOM AND OVERHEARS.
JACK: No, no. I'm not having second thoughts. I mean I know
what Harper
did and and I.... I know what he is. I know that he's also my father.
He's the only father I've ever known and I'm not going to let him
rot in that prison with the prison scum.
VICTOR: Well he won't have to stay there much longer.
Our plan is fully operational. We'll be breaking him out of prison
very soon. Next week as a matter of fact.
JACK: I just hope it works. I just hope it.... works.
VICTOR: Jack, nothing goes wrong with my plans. I'm much
too careful for that.
JACK: Good. Thank you very much.
VICTOR: Don't mention it.
THEY WALK AWAY AND JO COMES OUT FROM BEHIND THE
PARTITION. SHE IS VERY WORRIED AND SCARED. SHE RETURNS TO THE
TABLE.
MELISSA: You're back.
JO: Yes. I guess you two had some time alone.
JACK: We sure did.
MELISSA: Well I guess it's my turn now. Excuse me.
JO: Of course.
JACK: Well what are you looking at me like that for?
JO: I'm sorry.
JACK: You know you said you had something important to
talk to me about before. You were very anxious. At least it seemed
very important.
JO: Well it is important. (Beat) Jack you do realize how
great your career is going for you right now, don't you?
JACK: Of course I do.
JO: And for the first time in a long time, you've got
a lot to lose and I would hate to see you mess anything up.
JACK: What do you mean?
JO: Just don't mess things up Jack.
JACK: Like what?
JO: Son, you have a beautiful future ahead of you. Let
go of the past. Don't dredge it up.
JACK: If you have something to say, please just say it.
JO: I don't have anything specific. I just want you to
know that I'm happy for you.
JACK: Huh, uh.
JO: My son is going to be a United States senator. I never
dared to dream anything like that for one of my children. Please,
don't do anything that the voters might not like.
JACK: I see. See if you want to manage my campaign now,
the answer is no. I have enough people managing my campaign. Thank
you for the concern though. Look I enjoyed lunch but I've really
got to go.
JO: Jack, Jack, wait a minute. BILLY!
JACK: Yes what?
JO: Nothing, thank you for the lunch.
JACK: It was nothing really.
JACK WALKS AWAY.
JO: What am I going to do?

IT WAS JACK AND VICTOR BUT SAYS IT WAS JUST TWO PEOPLE. SHE ASKS
STEVE TO STOP THE BREAK OUT. STEVE ASKS WHY SHE DOES NOT GO TO
THE POLICE BUT SHE SAYS SHE CANNOT BE A WITNESS.
SCENE TWO: STEVE SAYS THAT
HE WILL TAKE CARE OF IT. HE TELLS ABE IN PRIVATE AND THEY SET
UP A PLAN WHERE STEVE INFORMS THEM OF EVERYTHING THAT IS HAPPENING

SCENE ONE: IT IS THE DAY OF TOM AND ALICE'S SECOND
WEDDING. TOM TAKES ALICE TO THE CHURCH AND PROPOSES. CALLIOPE
HAS A DRESS READY AND ALL THE FAMILY IS THERE WAITING. ALICE IS
DELIGHTED. MELISSA IS TALKING TO TOM WHEN JACK ARRIVES.
MELISSA: I'm so happy you made it.
JACK: Oh I couldn't miss this. After all I'm going to be
a part of your family soon.
JACK AND MELISSA HUG, AND LACK FLASHES A SMUG, KNOWING MICKEY
IS NOT PLEASED, SELF-SATISFIED LOOK AT MICKEY.

THEY
WALK OVER TOWARDS THEM, AT FIRST AT MICKEY TURNS AWAY.
TOM: Mickey!
JACK: Mickey? (Laying on the fake charm.)
MICKEY: Jack.
JACK: Dr. Horton. Congratulations.
TOM: Thank you Jack.
JACK: You have a tremendous family. I can't wait to be a
part of it.
SCENE TWO: LATER JACK WALKS
INTO THE CHURCH WITH MELISSA FOLLOWED BY JENNIFER AND CALLIOPE.
THE WEDDING GOES AHEAD WITH MELISSA LOOKING AT JACK DURING THE
CEREMONY. AFTER THE CEREMONY EVERYONE GATHERS IN THE FOYER AND
JACK STANDS ASIDE AS THE FAMILY GATHERS AROUND TOM AND ALICE.
SCENE THREE: THEY GO TO
BLONDIE'S FOR A RECEPTION DINNER. JACK IS SITTING AT THE END OF
THE TABLE WITH MELISSA WHILE JENNIFER IS SITTING AT THE OTHER
END NEXT TO CALLIOPE. JENNIFER READS A TELEGRAM FROM FRANKIE.
SCENE FOUR: WHILE EVERYONE
IS WATCHING TOM AND ALICE DANCE, JACK NOTICES KRISTINA WALK IN.
HE FOLLOWS HER WITH HIS EYES.
MELISSA: Promise me we'll be that happy in fifty years?
JACK: Oh.... promise, promise. (They kiss.)
MICKEY ASKS MELISSA TO DANCE.
MELISSA: I'll be back.
JACK: Okay.... I need to make a phone call.
JACK WALKS BACK TO THE PUBLIC PHONES WHERE KRISTINA
IS STANDING.
JACK: Hello.
KRISTINA: Hi.
JACK: (Flirting shamelessly)Tell me, do you always walk
right by friends without saying hello?
KRISTINA: You were kissing your fiancée. I didn't
want to interrupt.
JACK: That's not interrupting. That's called being sociable.
KRISTINA: Yes, well some women are jealous about that.
JACK: Oh that's nothing to be jealous of. I mean we're
not doing anything.
KRISTINA: So Jack, what would happen if your fiancée
came over here right now?
JACK: Oh.... I suppose I'd tell her something and she'd believe
me.
MELISSA IS DANCING WITH MICKEY AND SHE THANKS HIM
FOR BEING NICE TO JACK AND ASKS HIM IF HE WOULD DO IT ALL THE
TIME. MICKEY LOOKS ACROSS AT JACK AND SEES KRISTINA WALK PAST
HIM AND JACK WATCHES HER. MICKEY THEN SAYS THAT IT WOULD BE PUSHING
IT TO BE NICE ALL THE TIME.
JACK: Excuse me Mickey. I'm sorry, your daughter's just so
beautiful I can't resist. Can I cut in? (Laugh)
AS HE DANCES CLOSE TO MELISSA HE LOOKS ACROSS AND
WINKS AT KRISTINA WHO IS DELIGHTED.
JENNIFER AND CALLIOPE LOOK AT THE DANCERS FROM THE TABLE
AND THINK OF LOST LOVES.
SCENE FIVE: TOM AND ALICE LEAVE AND JACK THROWS
RICE ON THEM.
[Air
date 10-18-88]
SCENE ONE: STEVE HAS FOUND OUT WHEN HARPER IS ESCAPING
AND ABE IS GIVING HIM BACKUP.
SCENE TWO: JACK IS HAVING
A DRINK AT THE BAR AT BLONDIE'S WHEN VICTOR COMES IN.
VICTOR: Well Jack, fancy running into you here.
JACK: You too Victor. How are you doing?
VICTOR: Oh I can't complain. The campaign's going well
I trust.
JACK: Like the well oiled machine that it is, no small
thanks to you. (Whisper) You have something you want to tell me?
VICTOR: Yes, I have news about a certain Senator.
JACK: What about him?
VICTOR: We're going to break him out tonight!
JACK: You're breaking Harper out tonight? I thought that
wasn't supposed to be for a few more days yet?
VICTOR: Yes well there's been a change in plans.
JACK: Right, what happened?
VICTOR: I just found out that your wayward brother has
transferred to the same prison that Harper is in.
JACK: I know about that, so what?
VICTOR: Doesn't that strike you as a little bit coincidental?
JACK: Well, if it was anybody else it would be but Steve's
a loser and I know he's going to end up in jail sooner or later
anyway.
VICTOR: Jack don't let your animosity towards your brother
cloud your judgment. Something's going on and we've got to get
Harper out of there before there's trouble.
JACK: I just don't want these last minutes changes to
mess up our plans.
VICTOR: Don't worry, they won't. Harper is going to take
these pills tonight.
JACK: What are they?
VICTOR: They present with the same symptoms as a severe
gastric attack.
JACK: Well how are you going to get them to him?
VICTOR: Don't worry, I'll handle that but once he takes
them they will take him to the infirmary and they're not equipped
to deal with anything like that and the warden won't have any
choice but to send him to University Hospital.
JACK: He's still going to be surrounded by guards isn't
he?
VICTOR: That's not if he doesn't get to the hospital.
Once Harper is out of the gate, he's a free man. That's when my
men will take over. Now if I was you I'd keep a high profile tonight.
You may need the alibi.
JACK: Well what if you're right? What if....what if Steve
does get in the middle of everything?
VICTOR: Don't worry. I've taken measures to deal with him.
VICTOR LEAVES THE PILLS UNDER A NAPKIN ON THE BAR
AND A MAN COMES UP AND TAKES THEM.
SCENE THREE: JACK SPENDS
THE EVENING HANGING OUT AT BLONDIE'S.
JACK: Dave, a bottle of your best champagne for my friends
here. Thank you.
KAYLA WALKS IN AND TRIES TO WALK RIGHT PAST JACK.
JACK: Aren't you going to say hi? I mean we're not exactly
strangers are we? In fact we used to be married. But I guess you'd
rather forget that.
KAYLA: Let me go by Jack.
JACK:
Sure, I'll let you go by. Let you be alone. It should be easy
seeing how your husband's in jail. Although I'm a little surprised
to see you out on the town so soon.
KAYLA: Leave me alone Jack, alright. Excuse me....
JACK: I'll leave you alone. One thing though, if you do
see Steve please tell him I feel bad for him. I know jail's a
tough place even for him. If you don't run with the pack, you're
out in the cold. Guess he'll find that out soon enough.
KAYLA: What's that supposed to mean?
JACK: It's not supposed to mean anything. It's just that
jail is no place for a lone wolf.
SCENE FOUR: AT THE JAIL,
HARPER IS MOPPING FLOORS WITH STEVE WHEN SUDDENLY HE DOUBLES OVER
IN PAIN. HE IS TAKEN TO THE INFIRMARY AND STEVE REALIZES THAT
THIS IS THE BREAKOUT.
SCENE FIVE: STEVE TELLS
ABE THAT HE THINKS HARPER IS FAKING THE ILLNESS AND THEY REALIZE
THAT THE AMBULANCE WILL BE USED FOR THE ESCAPE.
SCENE SIX: JACK SENDS A
BOTTLE OF CHAMPAGNE OVER TO THE TABLE WHERE VICTOR, JUSTIN AND
ADRIENNE ARE HAVING DINNER. HE CONTINUES TO STAND AT THE BAR SO
THAT EVERYONE COMING IN CAN SEE HIM. SHANE AND KIMBERLY ARRIVE,
SHANE IS SUSPICIOUS OF VICTOR.
SCENE SEVEN: LATER JACK
TALKS WITH VICTOR AGAIN.
JACK: I take it that everything is going smoothly?
VICTOR: Just as planned.
SCENE EIGHT: HARPER IS
GIVEN A CHANGE OF CLOTHES AND WHEN THE AMBULANCE STOPS FOR HIM
TO CHANGE TO A LIMO DRIVEN BY EMILIO, STEVE ARRIVES AND HARPER
IS SHOT. HE IS BUNDLED INTO THE BACK OF THE LIMO.
SCENE NINE: BACK AT BLONDIE'S.
VICTOR: I just got off the phone. The plan went like clockwork.
Harper should be on an airplane by now. Once he's out of the country
there's no way they can track him down.
JACK: Well there's no way they're going to trace it back
to us. I've made my presence felt here all night.
VICTOR: I think it's rather fitting that Steve Johnson's
wife and his mother provide both of us with an alibi.
KAYLA SITS WITH JO AND TELLS JO THAT JACK COULD
NEVER BE HALF THE MAN THAT STEVE IS. JO WORRIES THAT JACK WILL
DO SOMETHING RASH ONE DAY.
OVER AT JACK AND VICTOR'S TABLE, JACK DOES A LITTLE TOASTING MOTION
BY SLIGHTLY LIFTING HIS CHAMPAGNE FLUTE TO HIS LIPS.
