[Air
date late December 1989]
SCENE ONE: STEVE AND KAYLA ARRIVE HOME AND STEVE WANTS TO
KNOW WHY SHE WENT RUNNING AFTER JACK. SHE SAYS THAT HE WAS
DESPERATE. STEVE TRIES TO PUT JACK DOWN BUT KAYLA TELLS HIM THAT
JACK FEELS BAD ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED AND NEVER WANTED HER TO BE
IN DANGER. STEVE GETS UPSET THAT SHE IS DEFENDING JACK. STEVE
WANTS TO WHY SHE BELIEVES THIS. SHE SAYS THAT JACK SAID HE WAS
HELPING THEM, AND THOUGHT IT SOUNDS CRAZY SHE REALLY BELIEVES
HE WAS TELLING THE TRUTH, AND IS TRYING HELP THEM. HE THINKS "IT
DOES SOUND CRAZY," AND WONDERS WHY HE IS "MESSING AROUND
WITH MARINA'S SISTER?" SHE TELLS HIM THAT JACK NEVER
SAID. JUST THEN THERE IS A KNOCK ON THE DOOR. STEVE GOES TO ANSWER
THE DOOR; IT IS JACK.

STEVE: Well, speaking of the devil.
JACK: I.... er.... I brought your keys back.
KAYLA: Did you find Isabella?
JACK (Going inside) No. No. It got too dark. I couldn't
find her.
KAYLA: Sorry.
JACK
LOOKS ACROSS AT STEVE. HE FEELS VERY AWKWARD BEING NEAR THEM BOTH.
JACK: Yeah. Ah.... Steve.... ah. Look, actually, you have
every right to turn me down but I could use your help looking for
her tomorrow morning.
STEVE: After what you put Kayla through, I should help you?
JACK: Look the girl is alone. She's lost and she isn't even
from here. And.... er.... well I mean we can't just turn our backs
on her and.... er.... I.... I could use your help.
STEVE: Alright, but only because I want to find her too.
JACK WALKS OUT AND STOPS AT THE DOOR.

JACK: Alright. I'll be back by here first thing in the morning.
(Beat) Thank you. Both of you.
SCENE TWO: A SHORT TIME LATER, JACK IS DOWN
ON THE PIER LOOKING FOR ISABELLA; HE IS NEAR SCOTT BANNING'S BOAT.
JENNIFER SEES HIM AND IS OVERJOYED.
JENNIFER: Jack!
SHE LEAPS ON HIM, WRAPPING HER LEGS AROUND HIM, AND HUGGING
HIM TIGHTLY.

JACK: Oh! Eeeeeew! Gee!
WHILE SHE IS CLINGING TO HIM WITH HER LEGS WRAPPED AROUND
HER WAIST, SHE BEGINS TO PUNCH HIM IN THE ARM.
JENNIFER: Where have you been? I've been so worried about
you. Why didn't you tell me where you were going?
JACK: I.... I.... I'm fine Jennifer, I'm fine. Well with
the exception of my arm.... and my back.
HE PUTS HER DOWN. THROUGHOUT THIS TIME IT IS OBVIOUS THAT
THEY BOTH FEEL SOMETHING FOR EACH OTHER, BUT JACK ALSO IS CONCERNED
FOR ISABELLA AND DOES NOT WANT JENNIFER INVOLVED.
JENNIFER: You lied to me about being on vacation and don't
tell me that you didn't Jack, because I found this under your desk.
JACK: My wallet! Well, thank you, I've been looking for
this.
JENNIFER: Tell me what's going on.
JACK: Nothing, nothing's going on.
JENNIFER: Nothing. Then why is Kayla looking for you? Why
is Steve looking for you?
JACK: Popular, I guess.
JENNIFER: Why didn't you call? You should have called me.
JACK: Look, there's nothing to call about. Everything is
just fine.
JENNIFER: Fine. Fine. You keep saying that. Stop
saying that!
SHE HITS HIS ARM AGAIN.
JACK: Well, I'll stop it when you stop asking questions.
JENNIFER: No! I want some answers right now.
JACK: Look, I don't have time for this. I don't. Ah, excuse
me.
JACK STARTS TO WALK AWAY, BUT LOOKS AROUND, SEARCHING FOR
ISABELLA.
JENNIFER: Where do you think you're going?
JACK: I'm.... er.... looking for somebody.
JENNIFER: For Isabella Toscano at the Bayview Sanitarium.
JACK: (Fake laugh, trying to hide the fact she is dead on)
Ah, excuse me?
JENNIFER: Jack, let me help you. I know you're in trouble.
JACK: Look, I think that your imagination's on overload.
JENNIFER: Oh my imagination. I suppose that this is a figment
of my imagination.
SHE HOLDS UP A GUN.
JACK: WHOA! PUT THAT DOWN! CAREFUL PUT THAT DOWN! JENNIFER:
Jack. It's not loaded, Jack.
JACK: Oh. (Beat) Where did you get this?
JENNIFER: In your desk.
JACK: Listen, I tell you, keep your hands out of my drawers.
JENNIFER: Excuse me? JACK: I mean.... Look, just....
er.... just keep out of my things.
JENNIFER: Jack, just let me help you, please. Tell me what's
going on.

JACK: Look, you want to help me? You want to help me? (Sounded
desperate) Keep out....keep out of my things. JENNIFER:
Why didn't you call me?
JUST THEN EMILIO ARRIVES --THEY HAD MADE A DATE; HE WENT HOME
TO CHANGE, WHILE SHE WAITED FOR HIM.
EMILIO: Hey, hey, hey, what's going on?
JACK: Oh, great, here comes Yogi Bear.
EMILIO: Well, I guess that means you're little Boo Boo.
EMILIO MAKES A MOVE TOWARDS JACK AND JENNIFER INTERVENES.
JACK: Whoa, whoa!
JENNIFER: No, stop it.
JACK: Look, if you want to help me, keep out....keep out
of my things, alright. Both of you.
JACK WALKS AWAY. JENNIFER IS VERY SAD THAT HE PUSHED HER AWAY.
SCENE THREE: LATER THAT NIGHT ISABELLA IS ON THE WHARF WHEN
SCOTT SEES HER FROM HIS BOAT. SHE SAYS SHE IS LOOKING FOR JACK
DEVERAUX AND HE TELLS HER THAT JACK LIVES ON THE OTHER SIDE OF
THE LAKE IN A BIG GRAY HOUSE. HE GOES TO CALL JACK FOR HER BUT
SHE DISAPPEARS.
SCENE FOUR: AT LONG LAST JACK RETURNS HOME. HE COMES INTO
HIS BEDROOM, COMPLETELY EXHAUSTED. HE TAKES OFF HIS COAT,
SITS ON THE BED TO REMOVE HIS SHOES. WE NOTICE THAT THERE IS SOMEBODY
ASLEEP IN HIS BED. SHE MOVES, JACK LEAPS UP IN SURPRISE, HE PUTS
UP HIS HANDS IN A DEFENSIVE POSE. IT IS ISABELLA.

JACK: (Muttering) You scared me. Oh, my god.
ISABELLA: Um.... Hi, I'm--

JACK: What ar.... This is my house.
ISABELLA: I was kind of cold outside and I....
JACK: No, no, no. (Scratching his head) Just a minute. Explain
something to me. How did you find me?
ISABELLA:
It wasn't difficult.
JACK: It wasn't difficult.... you know, you're a lot
scrappier than you look.
ISABELLA: Thank you I think.
JACK: (Beat) You can't stay here!
ISABELLA: Why not?
JACK: Well, if it's easy for you to find me, think how easy
it going to be for Victor to find you.
ISABELLA: Can I stay here tonight? I'm really tired.
JACK: No, no. I'm saying it's going to be dangerous, alright.
Victor is a very dangerous person.
ISABELLA: Just tonight.
SHE LEANS OVER AND PUTS HER HEAD ON HIS SHOULDER. JACK HOLDS
HER, AND SMILES.

ISABELLA: Just for a little while.
JACK: Ah.... okay tonight. Okay, just go ahead, lie down
and tomorrow we'll find a place for you. Okay. In the meantime,
I.... I don't know what I'll do in the meantime.
JACK WALKS OVER AND SITS ON THE END OF THE BED WHILE ISABELLA
CURLS UP AND GOES BACK TO SLEEP. JACK LOOKS AT HER AND SMILES
AS IF HE IS HAPPY TO HAVE SOMEBODY WHO TRUSTS AND LIKES HIM. HOWEVER,
IS JACK FEELING MORE FOR ISABELLA, COULD HE BE FALLING IN LOVE
WITH HER?

SCENE FIVE: SOMEPLACE NEAR SALEM CAL WINTERS MEETS WITH REBECCA
WHO HAS BEEN TRAVELING WITH A AMNESIAC AND BELIEVED DEAD SHANE.
CAL HAS GROWN CLOSE TO KIM, AND REBECCA HAS FEELINGS FOR CAL.
THEY PLOT TO KEEP KIM AND SHANE FROM FINDING EACH OTHER.
SCENE ONE: IT IS THE NEXT MORNING AND JACK KNOCKS THEN COMES
INTO HIS OWN BEDROOM CARRYING A TRAY WITH TWO CUPS OF COFFEE.
ISABELLA IS IN THE SHOWER.
JACK: Hello, I've got some coffee here.
ISABELLA: (From the shower) Thanks. JACK:
You know there are some little towels in the little closet....
ISABELLA: I found them. Thanks.
JACK: Okay, great. Just take your time. I'll just have some
coffee. (Sipping his coffee) Hmm....
ISABELLA COMES OUT OF THE BATHROOM WEARING JACK'S ROBE.
ISABELLA: Morning.
JACK STOPS DRINKING, AND LOOKS DOWN, SURPRISED BY HOW SHE
IS DRESSED.

JACK: Oh, good morning.
ISABELLA: I hope you don't mind.
JACK: No, no, not at all. Please have some coffee.
ISABELLA: Thanks.
JACK: Ah, shoot!
JACKS PICKS UP THE PHONE.
ISABELLA: Who are you calling?
JACK: Ah.... my..... ah..... my.... brother.... Steve....
You know....
ISABELLA: Steve?
JACK: Yeah, Steve. Steve Johnson.
ISABELLA IS SHOCKED.
ISABELLA: Steve Johnson is your brother?
JACK: Yeah.
ISABELLA: You can't tell him about me!
JACK IS SURPRISED BY HER STATEMENT.

SCENE TWO: STEVE IS READING THE CHRONICLE, "NO
BREAKTHROUGH IN TOSCANO MURDER, KILLER STILL AT LARGE. HE KNOWS
THAT MARINA IS STILL CAUSING TROUBLE IN THEIR LIVES, EVEN THOUGH
SHE IS DEAD.
SCENE THREE: AT THE KIRIAKIS MANSION, JUSTIN, TALKING ABOUT
ISABELLA, TELLS HIS UNCLE VICTOR, "WE'LL FIND HER! IF I HAVE
TO TURN THIS TOWN UPSIDE DOWN, WE'LL FIND HER." HE WALKS
OUT THE ROOM, AND VICTOR FLASHES A SATISFIED SMIRK, OBVIOUSLY
BECAUSE HIS NEPHEW IS WORKING ON HIS SIDE.
SCENE FOUR: IN JACK'S BEDROOM, ISABELLA HAS JUST TOLD HIM
HE CANNOT CALL STEVE AND TELL HIM ABOUT HER. HER. TAKES THE PHONE
FROM HIS HAND AND HANGS IT UP.
ISABELLA: You can't call him Jack.
JACK: Well, look, I know that you don't want anybody to
know that you're here but I'm telling you, Steve is on your side.
ISABELLA: He's not going to be an ally of mine when he finds
out that I'm Marina's sister.
JACK: Well, it's a given that there's no love lost between
the two of them but he's not going to blame you for what she did.
ISABELLA: You can't be sure of that.
JACK: I'm telling you, we need his help. We need him.
ISABELLA: If you call him Jack, I'm leaving!
JACK: Isabella, if....
ISABELLA: I MEAN IT. I'LL WALK OUT OF HERE RIGHT NOW IF
YOU CALL HIM!
SHE WALKS INTO THE BATHROOM, LEAVE JACK AT A LOSS OF WHAT
TO DO.

SCENE FIVE: STEVE GOES OVER TO SEE JO AND ASKS HER TO MEET
HIM FOR LUNCH AT WINGS. HE HAS SOMETHING TO TELL HER.
SCENE SIX: HE GOES
BACK AND TELLS KAYLA; SHE HAS ASKED ADRIENNE TO COME TOO. THOUGH
IT SEEMS THAT KAYLA IS RELUCTANT TO BREAK THE NEWS, AND IS STILL
NOT TOO PLEASED WITH THE SITUATION BETWEEN HER AND STEVE, DUE TO
MARINA. KAYLA THINKS THAT THEY SHOULD ASK JACK, "HE IS YOUR
BROTHER AND MAYBE IT'S TIME WE GAVE HIM A SECOND CHANCE." STEVE
PAUSES FOR A MOMENT, SAYING NOTHING, THEN WALKS TO THE PHONE. HE
CALLS JACK.
JACK: Hello.
STEVE: Jack, this is Steve.
JACK: (Jack does not know what to saying, having just been
put on the spot by Isabella) Oh.... ah.... ah Steve, oh look I'm
sorry I didn't call you earlier about Isabella.
STEVE: Listen, ah, I want to meet you at Wings
later for lunch. 12:30.
JACK: Wings?
STEVE: Yeah, will you be there?
JACK: Yeah, sure. I'll be there.
STEVE: Good.
STEVE HANGS UP. JACK FROWNS, MYSTIFIED BY STEVE'S CALL.

SCENE SEVEN: A LITTLE LATER, JACK IS PUTTING ON HIS COAT TO
GO TO WINGS. ISABELLA COMES OUT OF THE BATHROOM.
ISABELLA: What are you doing?
JACK: I'm going out. (Beat) Look Steve called me. He
called me.
ISABELLA: You didn't tell him anything?
JACK:
No. I didn't tell him anything.
ISABELLA: Good.
JACK: Look, we have to deal with this little problem.
ISABELLA: Jack, you know my feelings.
JACK: (Sounding annoyed) Well, I thought I did. I
mean after all that time we spent in that sanitarium together, I
thought maybe you were coming to trust me a little bit.
ISABELLA: I do.
JACK: Then you have to trust me on this. Steve is going
to help you. But he has to know where you are. I want you to tell
him. It's the best thing to do.
ISABELLA: Jack, there is something that you don't know about
us, that you're not going to like.
JACK: Huh? Like what?
ISABELLA: Promise me you won't say anything until I've finished,
okay?
JACK: Okay.
ISABELLA: Marina and I were working together to get the
key back.

JACK: "Working together?!"
ISABELLA: Yeah. The key belongs to my family. Victor Kiriakis
was trying to get it away from us. Marina and I wanted to be sure
that didn't happen. My being in Bayview was part of that plan. But
somewhere along the line, Marina decided to have me committed permanently.
She wanted the key all to herself. She double crossed me and then
she double crossed Steve. If he finds out that I was part of the
plan, you don't....
JACK: Ah, I know.... you don't want to know what he'll do.
I mean, this face could tell stories.
ISABELLA: Now you know why he can't know about this.
JACK: I think you should have told me about this from the
start.
ISABELLA: Jack, I couldn't. I didn't know you. I didn't
trust you. But I do now. You're the only one I trust.
JACK: I'm
going to go.
ISABELLA: Jack please don't say anything.
JACK: Look, if I don't go, Steve is going to show up here
and you don't want to know what he's going to do.
ISABELLA: You're not going to tell him about this, are you?
JACK: I tell you what. I won't do anything that will jeopardize
your life. How about that?
ISABELLA: That's all I can ask, eh. Thank you.
JACK: I'm going to go.
ISABELLA: Okay.
JACK GOES OUT THE DOOR AND SHUTS IT THEN PAUSES, VERY PUZZLED
ABOUT ISABELLA, AND HATING TO HAVE TO LIE TO STEVE, JEOPARDIZING
ALL HE HAS DONE TO MAKE AMENDS.

SCENE EIGHT: ROMAN IS ON THE PHONE [THE CLIP IS NOT
LONG ENOUGH TO KNOW WITH WHOM] HE TELLS THE PERSON, "NO BODY
WILL SUSPECT A THING."
