THEY WALK BEHIND THE SET AND BUMP INTO JACK. DAN IMMEDIATELY IGNORES JENNIFER.

DAN: Jack, Jack.

JACK: Hmmm.

DAN: You wouldn't believe the ratings on our show last night. Your spot put us right through the roof. What do I have to do to persuade you to take the job on a more permanent basis? I mean I can give you a dental plan, profit sharing.

JACK: Throw in a set of amazing Ginzu knives and I'm all yours.

DAN: Are you serious?

JACK: Yeah.

DAN: Ah wait until I tell the sponsors. They're going to be delirious.

DAN RUNS OFF WITH THE NEWS.

JACK: Well what do you say?

JENNIFER: (Pleased) Well what is there to say, you've already taken the job.

JACK: Do you have a problem with that?

JENNIFER: No, not at all. Because you see Jack, I know why you did it.

JACK: Oh you do.

JENNIFER: Yeah, I do. And you can't tell me it was for career advancement or even publicity or even for the amazing Ginzu knives. There's only one reason you took that job and it's to be closer to me.

SHE BRUSHES PAST HIM SO THAT HER FACE IS VERY CLOSE TO HIS.

JACK: I don't think we were quite talking about the same thing.

JENNIFER: Jack, it's okay. You don't have to be embarrassed. I think it's very sweet that you want to spend more time with me.

JACK GETS DEFENSIVE.

JACK: I never said that.... I never said that I....

JENNIFER: Jack you don't have to deny it. You don't have to try and fool me. I know what's going on.

JACK: You do?

JENNIFER: Yeah I do....

DAN RETURNS.

DAN: Jack I just got off the phone with the sponsors and it's just as I said. They are wild about the idea of having you as a guest commentator.

JACK: Oh.

DAN: In fact because you agreed to it they are going to give me the go ahead to lengthen that segment.

JACK: Wait a minute, how can they do that? It's only a half hour show.

DAN: Well it's simple. We just cut somebody else's spot short.

JACK: Whose?

DAN: Jennifer's!

JENNIFER: What!

JACK: Wait I....

DAN WALKS AWAY. MADELINE COMES OVER.

MADELINE: Jack I just heard the good news. It looks like you and I will be getting extended coverage from now on.

JACK: I heard that story too Madeline, yes.

MADELINE: Well you can't get too much of a good thing. I always say.

JACK TURNS TO FACE JENNIFER WHO IS FURIOUS.

JACK: Yeah, I always say that too, sometimes.

MADELINE: See you on the set.

MADELINE LEAVES.

JACK: Alright, alright, now I know you're upset.

JENNIFER: No, I'm not. I'm not upset.

JACK: Wait a minute. Okay, you're smiling on the outside but on the inside you're reaching for the nearest blunt instrument and you're going to....

JENNIFER: No, no Jack. Jack, I'm really happy for you.

JACK: (Not being this for one minute) Wait a minute, your boss just took away your airtime and gave it to me. You get that kind of bold thing you don't go skipping down the street.

JENNIFER: You've won the battle Jack.

JACK: Wait a minute, battle! I don't like the sound of that. This was a friendly competition. That's all it was.

JENNIFER: No that's what it used to be.

JACK: And now?

JENNIFER: Look Jack, if you refuse to make a commitment to our personal relationship then I guess I'll just have to concentrate on our professional relationship, okay.

JACK: Whoa, whoa, whoa. I don't like these words, "battle" and "competition." You know they're kind of getting heavy, if you know what I mean. You know I've got an invitation to Isabella's party. Why don't.... why don't you join me and we can both go there and.... lighten up.

JENNIFER: Alright Jack, if you want me to go with you, I'll do it, alright.

JACK: Good.

JENNIFER: But tonight, let's forget about business.

JACK: Great.

JENNIFER: But professionally speaking, consider this a declaration of war.

JENNIFER WALKS OFF; JACK IS LEFT LOOKING VERY WORRIED.

SCENE TWO: LATER THAT EVENING, JACK AND JENNIFER ARRIVE AT VICTOR'S FOR ISABELLA'S BIRTHDAY PARTY. JACK IS WEARING A BLACK TUX AND JENNIFER HAS ON A HEAVILY BEADED LONG SLEEVED TOP OVER WHITE CREPE PANTS. AS THEY WALK IN THEY ARE MET BY CARLY.

CARLY: Jennifer, hi.

JENNIFER: Hi, I didn't know you'd be here.

CARLY: Small world, huh.

JENNIFER: Yeah, you're not kidding. Jack, I'd like you to meet my friend from boarding school. This is Kat.... (Stopping herself before she reveals her secret.)

CARLY: Carly.

JENNIFER: Carly, I'm sorry.

CARLY: Carly Manning.

JACK: This must be the same friend that you ditched me for at Wings the other night.

CARLY: Oooh guilty.

JENNIFER: Carly, this is Jack Deveraux.

CARLY EXTENDS HER HAND TO JACK WHO SHAKES IT GENTLY.

CARLY: Pleased to meet you.

JACK: Likewise.

JENNIFER ASKS CARLY IF SHE IS HUNGRY AND CARLY SAYS YES. THEN JENNIFER ASKS MARCUS WHO IS STANDING NEARBY TO GET SOME FOOD.

MARCUS: Jack you want to help me?

JACK: No, I don't want.... I'd rath.....

MARCUS: Jack, help, come on.

JACK: I'm.... I'd rather.... I'm.

JACK IS INTRIGUED BY THIS NEW FRIEND OF JENNIFER'S BUT MARCUS DRAGS HIM AWAY. WHILE THEY ARE ALONE, JENNIFER TELLS CARLY THAT IT WILL BE DIFFICULT TO KEEP HER SECRET AWAY FROM JACK.

JENNIFER: It's not going to be very easy to keep something like that away from him.

JACK: Something like what?

JACK HAS COME BACK AND IS LISTENING.

JACK: You were saying there is something that you were having a little trouble keeping from me.

JENNIFER: Oh you see I can't tell you because when Carly and I were in boarding school together we made this secret pact and we promised that we'd never break it. Isn't that right Carly?

CARLY AGREES WITH JENNIFER BUT THE CONVERSATION SOUNDS SUSPICIOUS AND JACK IS VERY INTERESTED.

CARLY: I hope you understand Jack.

JACK: Oh I understand perfectly.

HE WALKS AROUND IN FRONT OF JENNIFER AND HANDS CARLY A PLATE. HE PUSHES JENNIFER OUT OF THE WAY WITH HIS BACKSIDE.

JACK: Have some shrimp. So, what brings you to Salem, Carly?

CARLY: Ah, University Hospital. I'm a doctor and I'd heard wonderful things about the work being done there.

JACK: Hmmm. Thought you'd take a look at it for yourself, huh.

CARLY: Yeah.

MARCUS COMES OVER AND ASKS CARLY TO DANCE AND SHE LEAPS AT THE CHANCE TO GET AWAY FROM JACK'S QUESTIONS. WHEN THEY HAVE GONE, JACK GRABS JENNIFER'S ARM.

JACK: Alright, alright, what's going on. And it's not just some schoolgirl secret. What's going on with your pal Carly?

JENNIFER IGNORES HIM.

JACK: So tell me, what's going on with your friend Carly?

JENNIFER: Jack, there's nothing going on. I told you we went to boarding school together. Come on why don't we dance. I mean it's been a long time since we tangoed Jack. What do you say?

JACK: This is not a tango, this is a waltz.

JENNIFER: And we can make it into a tango, come on.

SHE TAKES HIS HAND AND THEY PRANCE ACROSS THE DANCE FLOOR WITH THEIR ARMS OUTSTRETCHED.
oldEp171B

JACK:
I.... alright, alright. I can tell by your little two step on the floor here that you don't want to talk about the aforementioned Carly. That's okay. I don't mind.

JENNIFER: Thank you.

JACK: If you don't want to confide in me, I won't press it.

JENNIFER: I really appreciate that Jack.

JACK: However, after all we've been through, you know you can tell me anything. I wouldn't be shocked. For example, if you said that you and Carly begged for alms in Bangkok or maybe you ran a massage parlor in Bonn or maybe....

JENNIFER: Alright Jack, I get the picture. I have nothing like that to confess.

JACK: Oh?

JENNIFER: What do you say, we didn't stay here?

JACK: Didn't stay here as in leave before the guest of honor arrives.

JENNIFER: Look I'm really sure that Isabella wouldn't mind if we didn't hang around. Why don't we go to a restaurant and have a nice quiet dinner?

JACK: Okay, if you say so.

JENNIFER: I say so.

JACK: I guess we'll have to say goodbye to everybody then.

JENNIFER: Okay, sure, let's say goodbye real quick.

JACK: Alright, let's start with Carly!

JENNIFER: No! Why don't we not say goodbye. Why don't we just slip out unnoticed. That's better. Come on.

JACK: Yeah.

JENNIFER DRAGS JACK TOWARDS THE DOOR BRUSHING PAST VICTOR AND JULIE WHO ARE STANDING NEXT TO THE FOOD TABLE. JACK REACHES BETWEEN THEM TO GRAB A HANDFUL OF FOOD.

JACK: Excuse us while we slip out unnoticed!

VICTOR AND JULIE SMILE AS JACK AND JENNIFER LEAVE.

SCENE THREE: THEY GO TO THE SANDOLLAR AT THE PIER. JENNIFER ASKS FOR A TABLE BUT THE MAITRE D' TELLS HER THAT THEY ARE BOOKED OUT FOR THE NIGHT. JENNIFER IS ABOUT TO LEAVE WHEN THE OTHER WAITER RECOGNIZES JACK FROM THE CROSSFIRE SEGMENT AND OFFERS HIM A TABLE IMMEDIATELY. JACK IS PUFFED UP WITH HIS OWN IMPORTANCE; JENNIFER IS MAD.

WAITER: Right this way please.

JACK: I didn't get this kind of treatment when I was running for office. It says something for an active politician. Thank you.

THE WAITER OFFERS TO GET JACK ANYTHING HE WANTS AND TO CALL ON HIM PERSONALLY.

JACK: I certainly will, I certainly will.

JACK BEGINS TO LOOK AT THE MENU WHEN THE PEOPLE AT THE NEXT TABLE RECOGNIZE HIM. THEY CALL OUT TO HIM.

JACK: Well.

MAN: Could you sign this napkin for us?

JACK: Well it's cloth. I....

MAN: Oh they can put it on my tab.

JACK: Do we have a.... pen.... oh thank you.

JENNIFER HANDS JACK A PEN.

JACK: Okay. To.... ah Blanche and....

MAN: Harvey.

JACK: "To Blanche and Harvey. Luv ya. Jack D."

MAN: Thanks Jack.

JACK: Sure.

JENNIFER ROLLS HER EYES AT JACK'S SIGNATURE.

JACK: I.... ah.... sorry about that.

JENNIFER: Oh it's no problem.

JACK: No, no, no. I know it makes you uncomfortable.

JENNIFER: I can handle it.

JACK: Well, you know what they say about the price of fame.

JENNIFER: No, what?

JACK: Um..... you know, it's a tie.

JENNIFER: Oh, they also say it's fleeting. So you better hold on to it. At least that's what I'm going to do when I get my air time back.

JACK: Oh and how do you propose to do that?

JENNIFER: Well that's for me to know. The only thing you have to worry about is holding onto your fans because in no time they're going to be begging for my autograph.

SCENE FOUR: A BIT LATER BLANCHE AND HARVEY ARE LEAVING AND THEY ARE SAYING GOODBYE TO JACK. BLANCHE HUGS JACK AND TAKES THE HANDKERCHIEF OUT OF HIS SUIT POCKET.

BLANCHE: Thank you Jack.

JACK: Sure. Oh sure. Pleasure to meet you Howard.

HARVEY: Harvey.

JACK: Oh Harvey, Harvey. Bye.

JACK SITS BACK DOWN WHERE JENNIFER IS SHOVELING FOOD INTO HER MOUTH LIKE THERE IS NO TOMORROW.
oldEp171C
JACK: Hello.

JENNIFER: What's the matter?

JACK: Oh there's nothing the matter with me but you're shoving it in there like there's a famine coming.

JENNIFER: I was.

JACK: Yes you was. What's going on?

JENNIFER: Nothing, nothing's going on. I'm just very hungry.

JACK: Huh, uh. You're sure you're not just trying to wrap this little tête-à-tête so you can jump me and get out of here.

JENNIFER: No why would I want to do that Jack, and why would you care? The only reason you have me around is so you can gloat over your little coup at the television station tonight. You know what, I'm tired of your conceit so you can sit here by yourself and wait for the paparazzi because I'm leaving.

JACK: Well I.... you know....

JENNIFER GETS UP AND STARTS TO WALK OUT AND JACK STARTS TO FOLLOW HER. HOWEVER A FAN GRABS HIM AND ASKS FOR HIS AUTOGRAPH.

JACK: JENNIFER, JENNIFER! I'm driving you home!

JENNIFER: Who said I'm going home.

JENNIFER GOES TO THE TELEVISION STATION AND VISITS THE TAPE LIBRARY. SHE DECIDES TO LOOK AT SOME OLD TAPES TO SEE IF SHE CAN FIND A STORY FOR DAN. SHE PUTS IN A TAPE AND IT CONTAINS A STORY ABOUT KATERINA BEING BORN AND THE PROMISE OF MARRIAGE THAT HER FATHER MADE FOR HER TWENTY-FIFTH BIRTHDAY. JENNIFER FIGURES THAT THIS MIGHT BE THE KATERINA SHE KNEW AT BOARDING SCHOOL — CARLY.

[Air date early August 1990]

SCENE ONE: IT IS THE SAME NIGHT AND JENNIFER IS STILL AT THE TAPE LIBRARY WATCHING THE TAPE OF A BABY CALLED KATERINA BEING BORN ALMOST TWENTY-FIVE YEARS BEFORE. AS SHE IS WATCHING JACK ENTER.

JACK: Oh here you are!

JENNIFER: Jack.

JACK: What the hell are you doing down here? Jack that's right, Jack! Your.... ah let me see, it's on the tip of my tongue.... it's ah.... it's ah....

JENNIFER: Jack what are you doing here?

JACK: Let me answer a question with a question. What are you doing down here? Am I interrupting something?

JENNIFER: Jack of course you're not interrupting anything. How could you? You know I was hoping you'd stop by.

JACK: Oh that's why you left a little trail of bread crumbs all the way up. I'VE BEEN LOOKING ALL OVER FOR YOU. YOU RAN OUT AND YOU LEFT ME AGAIN IN THE RESTAURANT. I mean you didn't leave a word.... not a word about a destination or anything. I mean how am I supposed to be able to find you?

JENNIFER: No word, huh?

JACK: Not a word, no.

JENNIFER: So in other words that means you followed me here, right. How dare you Jack, how dare you even follow me!

JACK: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, hold it, wait a minute, wait a minute. Calm down.

JENNIFER: I am calm.

JACK: Then stay calm. We don't have to discuss this anymore. I know why you're here.

JENNIFER: Oh you do, you do? Oh then why am I here?

JACK: You're here because.... well because of what happened in the restaurant and what happened at the station before. I mean between the fans and.... you know.... the special treatment, you know I know things got pretty bad.

JENNIFER: Oh so that's what you think this is all about. You think that I can't handle your success.

JACK: Exactly.

JENNIFER: No, no. I love your success Jack. Do you think I like waiting for a dinner reservation? I hate it. I hate it. I love all this attention you're getting. More power to you. And if you want me to say it I will. I have no negative feelings in regards to your popularity by our mutual employer. So don't even give it a second thought. Go home, go to bed, have a really nice sleep.

JACK: Heheheh. Ah.... no you don't!

JENNIFER: I don't.

JACK: No.... you not pulling one over on me.

JENNIFER: Okay, okay Jack. I'll tell you. Alright, okay I'm going to be honest with you.

JACK: Oh that's the best policy.

JENNIFER: I was lying when I said that I didn't care before when I cared and I didn't say it. Now I'm telling you the truth.

JACK: So.... now..... you do care?

JACK IS VERY PLEASED WITH HER ADMITTING THAT SHE IS JEALOUS.

JENNIFER: Right.

JACK: But you're still upset?

JENNIFER: Yes, I'm still upset.

JACK: Okay I get the picture. You.... spend long hours down in the video cassette room looking at old video cassettes when you're upset. It's a woman thing! When you're upset you do research.

JENNIFER: Yes.

JACK: Yes.

JENNIFER: Yes. I'm looking for a story, I'm looking for any story, an old story, a story that somebody already did and forgot about. I figure if I follow up on it in a good way maybe I can prove to Dan that I deserve my airtime back.

JACK: Right. So you're going to stay in this little room looking at these old video cassettes, looking for the story of a lifetime. the story of the century that maybe.... that some other reporter dropped because of an editorial deadline.

JENNIFER: Yes.

JACK: Not a bad idea. In fact that's.... that's a good idea. That's a gooooood idea! You know there's a lot of video cassettes around here.... and I'm going to help you watch them.

HE MOVES TO PICK UP THE KATERINA TAPE BUT JENNIFER POUNCES ON IT AND SLAPS HIS HAND.

JENNIFER: Oh.... oh no we won't Jack.

JACK: Ouch, ouch.

JENNIFER: No!

JACK: What do you mean by no?

JENNIFER: I mean no.

JACK: As in, no.

JENNIFER: As in no definite, no discussion, no debate, no, no.

JACK: Well what exactly do you mean by no?

JENNIFER: It's so simple. It's no. N-O. I don't need your help. It's not going to happen because this is mine, this is all mine. It's mine, mine, mine Jack. It's all mine Jack.

JACK: Alright, I understand. This is your declaration of war, right. This is your.... this is your let's keep our personal lives completely separate from professional lives, right?

JENNIFER: Bingo! Right!

JACK: I understand that, absolutely. I'm a man of the 90s. Besides, there's always been this little edge of professional rivalry bubbling away beneath everything here. But now that's it out in the open, it's great. It makes it perfectly understandable.

JENNIFER: Exactly so if you don't mind, I consider this my professional time so I'll call you tomorrow Jack, how's that?

JACK: Yeah fine. But before we leave....

JENNIFER: Wait a minute Jack....

JACK: I would just.... I would just like to get the ground rules straight here.

HE PICKS UP THE KATERINA TAPE AND JENNIFER IS NERVOUS.

JACK: I just want you to know that I respect your choices, decisions and your career moves. I think that....

JENNIFER MAKES A DECISION TO DISTRACT HIM. SHE PULLS HIS FACE AROUND TOWARDS HER.

JENNIFER: Jack!

SHE KISSES HIM BUT HE STRUGGLES A BIT.

JACK: Wa.... wait a minute, I....

SHE CONTINUES IT KISS HIM FOR A WHILE UNTIL HE PULLS AWAY.

JACK: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. A little oxygen here for a second.

JENNIFER: Jack let's get out of here. Come on, let's go.

SHE LEAPS UP AND WRAPS HER LEGS AROUND HIS WAIST AND HOLDS ON TIGHT.

JACK: Whoa, Jennifer!

JENNIFER: Come on, let's go.

JACK: Jennifer, what about the.... what about work.

JENNIFER: Forget about work Jack, come on let's go, right now.

JACK: Right now?

JENNIFER: Yeah right now.

JACK: Right here?

JENNIFER: Huh, huh.

JENNIFER IS STILL WRAPPED AROUND JACK'S BODY.

JACK: Right here, right now! Okay!
oldEp172D
HE SLAMS THE DOOR SHUT WITH ONE ARM WHILE HE WRAPS HIS OTHER ARM AROUND HER AND THEY KISS AS HE SPINS HER AROUND THE ROOM.

JENNIFER: WHOA! Wait a minute, wait a minute. We can't here.

JENNIFER DROPS TO THE FLOOR; JACK IS DAZED.

JACK: Why not, too sterile, too radioactive, what?

JENNIFER: No this is a work place. We have work life and we have personal life and this isn't the place.

JACK: But I thought you told me to follow my instincts.

JENNIFER: I know and that's good but....

JACK: That's good, so I'm following my instincts and taking your advice.

JENNIFER: JACK!

HE TAKES HER IN HIS ARMS AND BEGINS TO KISS HER. HE LEANS HER BACK AGAINST THE VIDEO DESK AND IS ALMOST ON TOP OF HER WHEN THEY HEAR A VOICE AT THE DOOR.

DAN: HELLO! JACK AND JENNIFER IMMEDIATELY BREAK AND STAND UP.

JENNIFER: Jack!

JACK: Take it easy, take it easy.

JACK HAS HIS BACK TO THE DOOR AND WIPES HIS MOUTH AS DAN COMES IN. THEY BOTH TRY TO LOOK NONCHALANT.

DAN: Knock, knock.

JENNIFER: Hi Dan.

JACK: Dan.

DAN: Oh the security guard mentioned that you both signed back in so late and I couldn't imagine what you were up too. So what are you up to?

THEY ARE BOTH FACING DAN WITH THEIR LEFT HANDS TO THEIR MOUTHS.

JENNIFER: Oh just some research....

JACK: Work....

JENNIFER: Working

JACK: Research.

DAN: Research?

JENNIFER: Huh, uh.

JACK: Yeah.... um actually.... ah....

JENNIFER: Actually.... I was doing what you told me to do with him.

JACK LOOKS AT HER TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT SHE MEANS.
oldEp171E
JACK: What did he tell you to do?

JENNIFER: I was coaching him on how to improve his moves.

JACK: Oh.... yes, how to improve my moves on the.... ah.... with my political commentator.

DAN: Huh, uh. What else?

JACK: What else?

DAN: And how is he improving?

JENNIFER: Oh.... well.... good I suppose.... a little.... you know.

JACK: Oh really!

JENNIFER: But he's been giving me a very hard time Dan.

JACK: Jennifer.... Jennifer.

JENNIFER: But overall I think his moves are real good and if he keeps at it, he'll be bearable one day.

DAN: That's quite a reputation.

JACK: Heheheh.

JENNIFER: Well you could see him in action if you'd like, for yourself.

JACK: No I don't think Dan needs to see that. Just.... what we're working on is I'm trying to soften up on my opposition, you know, my fellow political commentator.

JENNIFER: Yeah you know Dan, her rhythms, her soft spots, but most important of all is to go right for that opening as soon as he sees it. I mean strike it while the iron is hot, you know.

JACK: (Whispering) I can't believe you actually said that.

DAN: Oh I'm glad to see you're taking advantage of each other's talents.

JENNIFER: Well you know I like to do whatever I can, for the station.

DAN: You are a good sport, Jennifer.

JACK: Yeah a good sport. You took the words right out of my mouth.

DAN: But there's a limit. Come on kids, if the station manager is going home, everybody else can take a rest too. I mean you can pick this up tomorrow morning when everybody else is back at the grind, right? Up two three four, come on, out both of you. Come one let's give this place a rest.

JACK: You know, I brought my car. I.... bet I could give you a ride home.

DAN: Oh sharing a vehicle. Be careful you don't wind up getting sick of each other.

JENNIFER: Oh I'll let you know Dan. Let me just get my purse.

DAN: Oh don't forget to turn out the lights.

JACK: No, I prefer to leave the lights on actually Dan.

DAN: Waste of energy.

JACK: No, not usually....

JACK FOLLOWS DAN OUT THE DOOR AND JENNIFER PICKS UP HER PURSE AND IS ABOUT TO PUT THE TAPE IN IT WHEN JACK COMES BACK FOR HER.

JACK: Jennifer!

JENNIFER: What?

JACK: Come on, come on, we've got a tired boss waiting at the elevator.

JENNIFER: I know, I'm coming. You know I wanted to put this away where it was so when somebody else is looking for it they'll be able to find it.

JACK: Marian the Librarian, come on! Come on.

JENNIFER: I'm coming.

THE BOTH WALK OUT.

SCENE THREE: LATER THEY ARRIVE AT THE LOFT. JENNIFER WALKS IN FIRST AND PUTS HER PURSE ON THE KITCHEN BENCH. JACK GOES STRAIGHT TO THE REFRIGERATOR AND OPENS IT LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO EAT.

JACK: There's nothing to eat.

HE WANDERS OVER TOWARDS HER.

JACK: So.... um.... maybe we should just.... pick up where we left off.

HE LEANS DOWN, KISSING HER SWEETLY AND TENDERLY ON THE LIPS. SHE PUTS HER HAND AROUND ON HIS NECK AS HE CONTINUES TO KISS HER NECK.

JENNIFER: Jack.

JACK: Huh, uh.

HE CONTINUES TO KISS HER.

JENNIFER: Um Jack don't; stop!

JACK: Don't what....

JACK PULLS AWAY AND STANDS AWAY FROM HER.

JACK: Jennifer.

JENNIFER: What.... no it's alright.

JACK: I know it's alright. I wasn't listening before and now I'm listening.

JENNIFER: Jack, Jack, stop it.

JACK: I stopped, I did stop.
oldEp171F

JACK IS FEELING BAD FEARING THAT HE IS BEING TOO PUSHY, REMEMBERING THE RAPE, WHICH OCCURRED THERE IN THE LOFT.

JENNIFER: Wait no. I want you to stop apologizing. You didn't do anything wrong. You were.... you were being really sweet.

JACK: Jennifer.... I was.....

JENNIFER: I didn't stop you because of you. It's because of me.

JACK: So what's wrong?

JENNIFER: Nothing's wrong. I'm just tired. Would it be alright if we just called it a night, for tonight?

JACK: Sure, sure.

JACK AGREES BUT HE IS UNSURE OF HER REAL MOTIVE. HE THINKS THAT HE DID SOMETHING WRONG; HE IS ESPECIALLY SENSITIVE BECAUSE OF HIS PAST, HIS RAPE OF KAYLA. HE WALKS STRAIGHT TO THE DOOR AND OPENS IT.

JENNIFER: We'll see each other tomorrow, right Jack?

HE STOPS AT THE DOOR AND TURNS TO FACE HER. HE RUNS HIS FINGER DOWN HER CHIN.

JACK: Sure. Whatever you want....

JENNIFER: Jack....

JACK: If that's what you want.

JENNIFER: I want to.... tomorrow.

JACK NODS RELUCTANTLY.

JACK: Tomorrow.
oldEp171G

HE LEANS DOWN AND KISSES HER SWEETLY ON THE LIPS.

JACK: Have pleasant dreams.

JENNIFER: I will now.

JACK STANDS THERE AND LOOKS IN HER EYES THINKING HOW IT WOULD BE TO MAKE LOVE TO HER.

JENNIFER: Goodnight.

JACK: Goodnight.

SHE SHUTS THE DOOR AND HE IS LEFT ALONE OUTSIDE. HE SIGHS AND GETS IN THE ELEVATOR. INSIDE JENNIFER LISTENS TO HEAR HIM LEAVE THEN SHE SNEAKS OUT.

SCENE FOR: JENNIFER GOES BACK TO THE STATION'S VIDEO LIBRARY. SHE PUTS THE TAPE IN HER PURSE; AND LEAVES.
