Background:
The night after the killer murdered at the university, Jennifer
Buchanan is almost murdered. She had become drunk and told her
husband Joe, during his service and in front of his congregation,
that she wanted a divorce. She returned to Rex' apartment and
fell asleep. After he left her to sleep it off, the killer trid
to strangle her. However, Rex returned and was able to stop
the killer before he could finish her off. Rex chased him down
an alley, to the pier, but the killer jumped into the water.
Later the police arrived and interrogated him. He leadsthem
to where he last saw the killer and the found an expensive bag,
which the killer was carrying. Later Nora recognized it as being
similar to a bag which Troy MacIver owned.
Al, as Michael, and Marcie visited Ron, her brother, at the
hospital. Michael examinined him -- he had suffered a severe
allergic reaction.. Marcie meanwhile saw Jennifer being brought
in on a stretcher. She immediately called Joe and told him.
Al told them that since Ron was in the hospital that it means
he definitely has an iron-clad alibi and is innocent. He also
tells Marcie that that means he too is innocent. Michael/Al
wonders if she ever believed he was the killer. She tod him
that she did not.
Antonio helped Evangeline Williamson, track down a witness in
a court case, who is a student at the university. They went
to her lab at the university, and opening a closet door they
found her murdered bodied. Near her are a cheap music box by
her feet, a red scarf around her neck, and heart shaped tears
painted on her cheek. However, Antonio immediately noticed that
it is a scarf and not leotards, that the music box is cheap
and has no dancing ballerina; a cop discovered that the hearts
are painted with her blood not the lipstick the killer always
used. Later they discovered that student was murdered by the
person she was trying in court, he thought that this way he
could silence her and blame it on the Music Box Killer. Antonio
also figured out that there are a connections between all the
victims and Nora Buchanan: Nora is Jewish, as was one of the
earlier victims; the P.I. who was murdered had studied law at
one time, Nora is a lawyer; one of the earlier victims had been
married to an African-American man, as had Nora; Madison Kensington
had be charged by Nora.
At the same time, John McBain tracked the killings on a map,
from the first killing to the last three in Llanview, connecting
them together he created a rectangle on the map, similar to
the shape of a music box. Bo arrived and he gave John a city
map. Using the killings in Llanview he created the three sides
of another rectangle -- inside the larger rectangle. He then
estimated the location of the next killing. Bo became concerned
because the next murder, if the pattern continued, would be
directly in the middle of his father's estate, and worst still
his niece Sarah, the rock singer Flash, lives at the mansion
-- she too has a connection to Nora. Fearing the worst, he set
up around the clock guards for her.
Earlier that day Bo received a special letter from the killer.
There are series of letters and numbers on the list. Later he
showed John a copy of the letter. The D.A., Daniel Coulson,
and his son -- a musician with Flash's band and her boyfriend
-- noticed the numbers and immediately commented that it reminded
him of musical notes, and tempo. They ask him to try and crack
the code. He theorizes that the numbers, "4/4" and
"4/5" represent tempo. After some time he in fact
cracked the code, using a piano to figure out the notes he came
up with the word "F-R-O-N-T." Bo John wondered if
the numbers was an address, because there is a Front Street
in town. Eventually they discover ed that it is in deed an address.
It belongs to Rex, where Jennifer nearly was murdered; AND that
it once belonged to Dr. Troy MacIver.

Scene
One: Nora has gone to see Troy at Statesville Prison. Troy is
equally calm and yet spooky the whole time. He assures her he
is cured. He wants to know, and seems to really care, if she
hates him. She tries to assure him she does not. She is confused
by his behavior, which seems too calm and normal.
Scene Two: Bo is disturbed by all the clues which point to Troy,
and which seem to indicate that Nora is connected to the killings.
He and John McBain are trying to discuss the case. Bo says he
wants to call in someone for help, Prof. Haver from the university.
John is familiar with him as well, the F.B.I has called him
in on various cases, including the D.C. area sniper shootings
of last year.
Scene Three: Police Station, Commissioner Bo Buchanan's office.
Bo, Agent John McBain are talking to Rae (Gretel) Cummings,
a psychologist at the university, and Dr. Haver about Troy MacIver.
Bo is sitting at his desk, McBain is standing in back of Bo,
eating Chinese take out from a carton using chop sticks., and
Rae and Haver are sitting in front of the desk, next to each
other. Rae listens to Stephen. The scenes starts in mid-disscussion.
STEPHEN:
No, actually, Dr. MacIver was actually forthcoming about his wife's
death in Africa. Compulsive confessional mode.
RAE: Trying to assuage?
STEPHEN: (Talking to Rae) Or,
fabricating a dissociative disorder.
REA: Yeah it's possible.
Stephen
and Rae seem to be almost flirting as they discuss Troy's condition.
They each nod their heads in agree, why looking at each other,
somewhat pleased. Bo and John McBain get annoyed, and want facts
and not psycho-babble.
BO:
Ahh, excuse me, what are you guys talking about?
RAE:
Oh....
STEPHEN: (They both turn towards Bo) Oh, I'm
sorry we were just discussing why Dr. MacIver was so fixated on
his wife's death in Africa (Rae turns back to look at him, see
seems taken by the good professor).
JOHN: Let's.... let's forget about Africa. No
more Africa! (Puts down his food) All we want to talk about is
the Music Box Killings, okay. So maybe we can
figure out what is (motioning with his hands) tying all these
together. That's.... that's what we want to focus on right now.
BO:
(Nodding in agreement, and cutting in) We think it's Nora Buchanan.
STEPHEN: Yes, yes I read your file on that, it's
a real possibility. But in fact, this may well
long pre-date the A.D.A. (As he talks Bo listens
intently) Dr. MacIver described to me a woman he loved deeply
just as he was entering medical school. She rejected him. (Bo
becomes more interested) rather cruelly in fact.
She was a former ballet dancer, entering law school. Not unlike
Ms. Buchanan who's won some dance competition and is an attorney.
Bo looks
over toward John, who starts to ask questions.
JOHN:
Wait a minute, you're saying he never quite adjusted
from getting rejected in college?
STEPHEN: Apparently not.
BO: So when Nora rejected him--
RAE: (Interrupting) It brought it all
back, ah, sending him over the edge.
As
Haver describes his theory, Bo walks towards the door and looks
through the Venetian blinds, and motions to someone.
STEPHEN:
If you're looking for a pattern here, think of it this way,
the man is killing the same person, over and over again. He
both loves and hates this person, and is desperately trying
to sever the bind that bonds them together.
BO: Hmm.
Bo
turns and opens the door. It is Nora, back from seeing Troy.
BO:
(Cont.) Hi!
NORA: Hi!
BO: Hi! (Introducing them) A.D.A. Nora Buchanan
this is Dr. Stephen Haver from the university.
STEPHEN: Ms. Buchanan.
NORA: Oh nice to meet your Dr. Haver, actually
I just came from interviewing someone who.... you
just interviewed.
STEPHEN: Ohh.
NORA: I saw your name in the log.
STEPHEN: Really!?
NORA: Yes, Dr. Troy MacIver.
BO: (Shocked) Why, did you
put you trough something like that?
NORA: I just wanted to see if he was all right,
for myself. I just wanted to see if he was a viable suspect.
If we can place him at the scene.
Haver
watches, he looks oddly, as if he is not too pleased to hear
this. Why?
STEPHEN:
I'd be interested in your assessment.
Rae
watches him, as if she is trying to analyze him. McBain cuts
in. Haver listens and watches Nora.
JOHN:
Did he say anything of interest?
NORA: He was very calm. He was very.... (pauses
for a moment) lucid. He.... (looks over toward Bo) kept apologizing
to me, over and over again, very.... very remorseful (shrugging).
JOHN: So you're saying he.... came off as what
sane?
NORA: Yeah! (Chuckles) yeah.... he's.... a
little interested in me and what I've been
up to the last few months; he seems to know everything, that's
a little unsettling, but.... I don't know, made me wonder, (the
scene shifts to Troy looking at a photo of Nora as Nora's continues
talking) I mean is it an act. Is he sane? Is he recovered?
Is this just all an act?
Scene
Four: Troy caresses the photo and looks oddly, is he obsessed.
He then says Nora's name.
Scene Five: Later in the day Asa Buchanan, Flash's grandfather,
wants to know why a policeman is outside his mansion. Bo finally
tells him that they are afraid that the killer will strike at
there and that Flash is possibly his next victim. Asa gets angry
that he was not told, and demands a whole army of cops protect
her, and he tells her that she is forbidden to leave the house.
A phone rings and she answers it, there is no one on the other
end, suddenly music begins to play, it is the same song which
played on the music boxes found by all the victims.
