date Monday, March 15th, 2004)
Scene One:
The scene continues from the Friday cliffhanger; the police station
hallway, Haver is being taken to his cell by a police officer.
He stops to talk to him, and meanwhile, a had appears from down
the hall, aiming a gun at him.
STEPHEN: (To
the cop) There's something I like to talk to you about--
Just then John and
Bo walk show up.
JOHN: You
know something, you can wipe that smug little smile off your face
insanity plea isn't going to fly! And hell will freeze over
before you see the light of day!
BO: John (shrugs) The
hand cocks the gun. John hears it and turns around.

Bo notices it too,
and gets out of the way as he shouts. John and the cop bend down
and protect Stephen.
BO:
GET DOWN! At
that instant the hand pulls the trigger and a shot is heard.
Scene Two: Nora and Evangeline Williamson are having drinks. Evangeline
tells her that she looks forward to mixing it up with her again
in court. Nora tells her that it will not be for quite some time
because "I am up to my eyeballs right now with the Haver prosecution."
Nora then wonders of Evangeline wants to be his defense attorney.
Evangeline tells her no way, "what that man did is *indefensible*!"
Scene Three: The police station, it is in chaos after the attempted
shooting of Stephen Haver. Bo runs into the room and gives orders
to the cops there.
BO: Check
the stairwells! seel the exits! I want that shooter found!
They run
off. He walks back into the hallway, and walks towards Haver. John
is walking backwards scanning the area. The guard helps Haver up.
BO:
Everybody okay?
STEPHEN: (Gesturing and in a flippant manner) I am!
Bo grunts.
STEPHEN:
(Looking at John) John, you saved my life. Thank you! I owe you.
JOHN: (Disgusted) Don't push it! He
walks off; Haver watches him walk off. Another cop rushes over to
Bo.
POLICEMAN #1:
Commissioner, they're bringing the shooter upstairs, now.
BO: Did they ID him?
POLICEMAN #2: No, not yet. It's an older gentleman. Civilian.
STEPHEN: (Pleased, to Bo) Obviously (looking at Bo) that would
be your father!
BO: (Worried that he is right) SHUT UP!
STEPHEN: (Snarky and sarcastic) I am not a crimonologist,
but Asa was in here earlier with a gun (gesturing) pointing
it in my general direction (looking at Bo and pursing his lips).
Bo says
nothing, but it is obviously he fears that Haver is right and it
was Asa.
Scene Four: The police station, Bo is talking to John, he is worried
that it was his father. Just then another police officer and a man
in his 50s, wearing a raincoat, suit and tie, is with him. He is
the actual shooter. Bo asks him his name. He replies, "Raymond
*Collins*!" emphasizing his last name. Bo recognizes the name.
The man tells him that "Elyssa is, *was* my daughter. That
*so-of-a-bitch* killed her!" Bo hates saying it but he tells
Mr. Collins that he is under arrest for attempted murder and tells
the police officer to read the man his rights. John is upset as
well. The officer leads Mr. Collins away. Bo is furious, he tells
John that Collins probably was hard working and a good citizen and
he then tried to kill his daughter's murder, and *he* will be the
one to go to prison while Haver is going "to some *cushy mental
ward. Now *where* is the *justice* in all this?" John, in frustration,
just rolls his eyes and shakes his head, "There is none,"
and walks off.
Scene Five: A jail cell, Haver is in one of the police cells, the
guard is right outside. Haver massages his wrists due to the removed
handcuffs. The guard locks the cell. Haver walks to the bunk bed.
STEPHEN:
(To the cop) I need some paper.... Something to write with.
POLICEMAN #1: Not unless I get the okay.
The policeman walks
off. Haver continues to rub his wrist, in contemplation. He obviously
has some sort of plan. Just then John's voice is heard.
JOHN:
You gonna finish your book, Doc? Haver
turns to him.
JOHN:
(Cont., in front of the bars of the cell) ....I mean.... (gestures)
do we really need another cheap movie-of-the-week.... two-bit
memoir from the mind of a serial killer.
STEPHEN: (Walking to the bars, holding his wrist, motion with
his hand) I don't know, I need to do something to fill up my
time. Besides, I don't think they'll be holding my teaching position
open until I (motions with his head) I get out.
JOHN: Oh, you may get cooked but you ain't getting out!
STEPHEN: (Does not reply for a few seconds) Tell me something,
John.... (gestures) ....why didn't you go ahead and kill me
in that hotel room? Why did you (motions) push me out of the
way of Asa's bullet.
JOHN: (Leaning against the bars, putting his hand to his chin)
It wasn't Asa Buchanan (rubbing his face).
STEPHEN: (With a surprised expression) Really, who was it?
JOHN: (Slight laugh) Ha..., there's plenty (nodding)
of people who want to put a (slight smile) bullet in your head. But
for right now, that would be too easy! Naaww, we're going to
see how you like being (nodding) in a cage for a while.
STEPHEN: (Tilting his head) John.... then I'll still be very
much alive. (Taunting) And Catlin will be very much
dead.... and rotting in her grave. He
gets to John, who lunges his hands between the bars and grabs Haver's
throat. Just then the policeman watching Haver rushes in to stop
John.

JOHN:
(To the cop) It's all right. (Putting out his hands to show he means
no threat) Hey, it's all right, (looking at the cop) I'm under control.
(Gestures, to the cop) Okay? The
cop nods and walks back to his desk. After he leaves John turns
back towards Stephen.
JOHN:
You're just a little man on your way to being forgotten!
You're nothing! There's no games left!
He walks
off. STEPHEN:
(With a knowing, confident expression, nods his head) Maybe one!
(Nods his head again) Maybe.... one!

Haver continues to
nodding with a smug expressions.
Scene Six: Angel Square, the shrine to the victims. Many towns people
are there mourning the victims, and glad their murderer is incarcerated.
Natalie is there. She hears Haver's voice.
STEPHEN:
(Sounding sinister) Hello, Natalie!
She is startled,
she turns around to see if he is behind her; just then Carlotta
shows up, and apologizes for startling her. She assures Carlotta
(Cristian's mother) that she is fine, she "is just sad about
*those* women." Carlotta feels for her, thinking Cristian was
alive, only for it to be a trap. Natalie feels like "such a
fool!" She knows Cristian will never come back, much like the
murdered women, "I came *so* close to being one of them!"
Jessica and Antonio are there and they talk to Roxie Balsom who
wonders what is going on. They tell her that since they captured
the Music Box Killer no one wanted to be alone. Roxy -- who for
years was thought to be Natalie's mother -- replies, "I hope
they *fry* that creep!.... *on cable*!" John finds Natalie
who is still shaken. He tries to reassure her, telling her that
Haver is in jail and she does not have to worry. "I just wish
this nightmare was over. But something just seems *unfinished*!"
He tries to reassure her that it is over, "he can't hurt you
any more!" But she does not seem so certain. Later that evening
there is a religious service and memorial for the victims.
Scene Seven: Haver's cell. He is pacing around his bunk, running
his fingers over it. His lawyer is with him, sitting in a chair
inside the cell room.
KENDALL NELSON: You'll
be arraigned as soon as possible. After that the State's going to
have to have their own psychological evaluations.
STPHEN: (Chuckling, and tapping the bunk) Amateurs!

KENDALL NELSON:
Everything you say.... in here can be used against you. Speak only
to me! And quietly!
STEPHEN: Right. Will do (Sitting on the lower bunk) So now
(his fingers entwined) what?
KENDALL NELSON: (Closing his briefcase) We wait. Until the
State informs us of their findings there's very little we can do.
STEPHEN: On the contrary, there's something we can do
right now!
Scene Eight:
John is talking to his dead fiancée Caitlin. He tells her
that he finally found the man who killed her. He promises not to
screw up, like the last time. He tells her that though he wants
to personally murder Haver he will not. He hopes they both can find
peace.
Scene Nine: Bo's office, Bo and Nora are talking about Mr. Collins.
They both sympathize with him and agree that if anyone tried to
hurt their son Matthew they would want to shoot that person. Nora
wonders how to handle the case. Bo wants to go for the minimum but
fears that there were cops who saw him try and shoot Haver. Just
then there is a knock at the door, it is Kendall Nelson, Haver's
attorney. He informs Nora that he wants to enter a motion to dismiss
the charges. She wonders on what grounds. He tells her that Agent
McBain violated Stephen Haver's rights repeatedly. He has a long
list of charges against McBain. They tell him no one will believe
the charges. He tells him that he will put them before the judge.
He leaves, and they both agree that this is all just stalling tactics;
Haver took years to be caught and he will not go down easily without
a fight. Just then there is another knock at the door, Bureau Chief
Christopher Scoletta from the F.B.I., he is looking for John McBain.
McBain arrives and he is told that he is being investigated by the
F.B.I.'s Internal Affairs for wrong doing. Scoletta and McBain go
to another room to discuss the matter in private. Scoletta informs
him that Prof. Stephen Haver accused him of violating his civil
rights. Scoletta informs John that considering John's past history
he has to follow up on the accusations. He also mentions that since
Haver allegedly was Caitlin's murderer that means he is personally
involved and let his emotions take over his better judgments, and
that could prove a bias on his part. Scoletta also brings up the
time that John slammed Haver against a wall at the bar Rodi's which
was backed up by several students. John is furious and tells him
the whole thing is ridiculous and has no comment for him. Scoletta
informs him that he has to go through with the investigation and
during that time John is suspended from the F.B.I. and has to turn
over his badge.
Scene Ten: Haver's jail cell, Haver is just finishing a game of
Solitaire, he is sitting on his bunk and using it for a table;
he has won the game. The cop who is watching him is watching
him play from behind the bars. Haver seems bored and unimpressed
by the win.
POLICEMAN #1: (Impressed)
That's the third game in row you've won. You cheat?
STEPHEN: (Shaking his head) Noo! Cheating is for amateurs....
(clicking his tongue) ....I'm just exceptionally good.... at
games. In fact, like it or not, I always win!
